Big changes will be coming to the way reporting crimes online will work for the St. Joseph Police department&nbsp;

St. Joseph Police Chief Chris Connally says the police department has actually had online reporting for about 15 years. &nbsp;

"It was developed in house and it didn't integrate with our system so, you would do the online report and then we had a civilian that takes reports over the phone that in his spare time would integrate that into our system," Connally tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. "And we had some success with that, of course during COVID we had to emphasize a lot more online reporting."&nbsp;

Connally says recently the station was contacted by a foundation that would provide funds to help with anything the police station will need. &nbsp;

Now, Connally says, thanks to that donation and funds the department had available, the system will be changing to one the department didn't build.&nbsp;

"One that's commonly used across the country through LexisNexis and it integrates directly into our records management system," Connally explains. "And so, we're actually in the process of implementing this now we think the new system will be fully up and running at the end of August."&nbsp;

Connally says not only will the new system integrate into the department's records filing system, it will also be more customer friendly.&nbsp;

"This system when a person calls in on their phone, when they're referred to online reporting, they'll be told we're going to refer this to online reporting, you'll receive a text with a link and you hit the link and you can go straight into the report," Connally says. "So, you don't have to go to our website and find the online reporting and then open up the online reporting and fill it out, you'll just immediately be sent a link."&nbsp;

Connally says so many people do things on their phone that receiving the link will allow the report to be filed more quickly and efficiently.&nbsp;

Changes coming to St. Joseph Police Departments online reporting system

More federal money is coming to St. Joseph in the
city’s efforts to transform Rosecrans Memorial Airport.

Congressman Sam Graves, the ranking Republican on
the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has announced securing
another $1.8 million toward building a new Air Traffic Control Tower.

“I want to see a new tower put out here,” Graves
tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post during a stop at the 139th Airlift Group
base. “We’ve got to keep Rosecrans in top condition and in great shape and
modernized so that we are able to keep the Guard base here and the Advanced
Airlift Tactics Training Center here, too. It’s super important.”

Graves had earlier announced $1.98 million to
finance replacement of the aging terminal building at Rosecrans. Both the
terminal and the tower are housed in one building, constructed in 1952. The
roof leaks. Maintenance is difficult at best. The tower no longer complies with
modern Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

St. Joseph Public Works Director Abe Forney says
a total of $8 million dollars has been allocated toward the new aviation
complex project.

“It gets us close. It gets us design,” Forney
tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “It gets us some utilities moved, but we’re still
not there with total funding to get the tower completely built.”

In addition to a new terminal and tower, city
officials hope to construct a new maintenance building, primarily to house snow
removal equipment.

The United States House has approved a $5 million
allocation for Rosecrans toward the new aviation center. The Senate has yet to
act on the appropriation.

Forney says Rosecrans badly needs updating to
serve private aircraft, corporate jets, as well as the Air National Guard’s 139th
Airlift Group.

“Getting a new facility in there with the height
requirement the FAA requires, getting security lined out that we currently
don’t have in our existing building for the air traffic controllers is
crucial,” according to Forney.

St. Joseph has received approximately $5 million
from the state to go toward the project. The city will have to provide matching
funds. Buchanan County likely will contribute, as well.

In addition, Rosecrans is scheduled to overhaul
its main runway, a $40 million dollar project. Forney says concrete on the
runway is breaking off, scattering debris.

“So, our guys are out there constantly filling
buckets full of loose concrete and then patching it,” Forney says. “We can’t do
business like that. We’ve got to get that runway taken care of.”

Forney says, once completed, Rosecrans will be
transformed.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a new runway, a new
terminal building, and a new tower; we’ll have a whole new airport.”

The Missouri Highway Patrol does more than just write tickets, and Troop H in St. Joseph is giving people a chance to learn all about it. &nbsp;

Troop H is now accepting applications for the Community Alliance Program. &nbsp;

Seargent Shane Hux with Troop H says the Community Alliance Program is an opportunity for people to learn what the highway patrol is all about.&nbsp;

"It's not just about writing tickets for us we offer all kinds of services whether it be anything from changing a tire on the side of the road or assisting another agency with our SWAT team," Hux tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "You know, there's a big variance of what we do."&nbsp;

The community alliance program is a five-week course that begins on September 20th. and ends October 18th.&nbsp; Only 20 people can be accepted to the program.&nbsp;

Hux says the classes will provide a hands-on learning experience&nbsp;

"We will bring them in and we will let them do some mock traffic stops, we'll do what we call the MILO machine, it's a computer simulated shoot don't shoot scenarios, things like that," Hux explains.&nbsp;

Hux says many people that have taken the course are supporters of the highway patrol and have found the experience positive.&nbsp;

"Some may be on the fence as far as the line of avenue we take or as far as our policy and procedures, but I've never heard a negative thing about the community alliance program," Hux says. "Matter of fact, people when they leave, they realize that hey I did not know that you guys offered all these types of services."&nbsp;

Applications are open now.&nbsp; Hux says interested people can contact him for more information.&nbsp;

St. Joseph's Troop H providing opportunity to learn more about the Missouri Highway Patrol

Missouri transportation officials say long-neglected rural
roads will undergo transformation in the next few years.

The General Assembly appropriated $100 million in General
Revenue to improve two-lane letter blacktop roads, often called farm-to-market
routes.

Former Missouri Transportation Commission chair Tom Waters of
Orrick says the commission approved a lot of new projects, including rural
projects.

“We’re going to be doing projects on lettered roads that have
been lacking for several years,” Waters tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “Things are
looking up for transportation in Missouri, for sure.”

Agreeing is Missouri Department of Transportation Director
Patrick McKenna who says the money from General Revenue, the gas tax, and
Congress will allow MoDOT to sink nearly $2 billion into rural roads over the
next five years.

“We have over 500 bridges that are going to be either rehabbed
or replaced; critical, critical need,” McKenna tells us. “Then, pavement work
and much work. Again, it’s still not scaled to solve the entire problem, but it’s
going to be the most significant progress we’ve made in decades.”

Missouri has more money from its gas tax after the legislature
agreed to increase the state tax at the pump. The state also will benefit from
the nearly $1 trillion infrastructure plan approved by Congress.

Waters, who stepped down as transportation commission chair
last week after the commission meeting in St. Joseph, says the biggest boost
comes from that General Revenue money specifically targeting blacktop roads.

“What we’re doing with some of this new money the governor has
put in to our budget, we’re actually fixing some rural roads from front to back,
the entire road,” according to Waters. “We’re doing a lot of them across the state.
People are going to notice the difference, I think.”

Waters says while rural roads haven’t been neglected by the
transportation commission in the past, they haven’t received enough money to
keep them properly upgraded.

McKenna says Missouri has used its transportation money wisely,
which is borne out by recent national studies.

“CNBC just put out a study a couple of weeks ago, ranking
infrastructure in all 50 states. Missouri ranked 10th,” McKenna
says. “Now, we’re ranked about 47th in total funding, but our
condition of the infrastructure that we manage is 10th. So, that’s
the ingenuity and hard work of the department and great work by our
construction partners in the state.”

McKenna says MoDOT has not been able to devote money for
upkeep of rural roads, because the lettered two-lane blacktops don’t qualify
for federal assistance and nearly all of Missouri’s transportation money goes
toward the state match to draw down federal funds.

Old Missouri blacktop roads set to get needed upgrades

NODAWAY COUNTY—A Missouri teen was injured in an accident just after 5p.m. Monday in Nodaway County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2012 Chevy passenger vehicle driven by a 15-year-old girl from Hopkins was northbound on Katydid Road two miles north of Hopkins.

The vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle returned to the road, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a ditch.

A private vehicle transported the teen to Mosaic in Maryville. She was then transferred to Children's Mercy. The teen was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

In an effort to continue expanding rural broadband a new internet option has made roots in St. Joseph.&nbsp;

Mercury Broadband will serve homes and businesses in the surrounding St. Joseph area as well as Atchison, Brown, and Doniphan counties in northeast Kansas.&nbsp;

Founder and CEO of Mercury Broadband Garrett Wiseman says he chose St. Joseph to open a service center because of the need he saw in the area. &nbsp;

"There's a lot of rural communities in the St. Joseph area that don't have good broadband internet service and so we're expanding to this area and we're going to try to fill that need and provide those services to support the communities in this area," Wiseman tells reporters.&nbsp;

Along with serving the area Wiseman says Mercury Broadband will provide new jobs in St. Joseph with the company wanting to hire 30 new employees. &nbsp;

Wiseman says most of the areas Mercury will focus on are outside the city limits of St. Joseph. &nbsp;

"So, we're not going in and building into St. Joe proper, per say, we're going into areas that don't have these services or maybe are on a legacy DSL network or maybe only have access to satellite or cellular broadband internet," Wiseman explains. "And so, we're building out into these areas that don't have internet access or good internet access and those are the communities that we're really going after to support."&nbsp;

Wiseman says the plan for Mercury is to build out to 40-thousand homes in the rural area around St. Joseph. &nbsp;

"These are rural homes, so I think we're going to have a huge impact on the community and really provide a great service that's much needed in the area," he says.&nbsp;

Mercury Broadband will serve homes and businesses in the rural and surrounding areas of St. Joseph and Buchanan County, including Atchison, Brown, and Doniphan Counties in northeast Kansas.&nbsp;

New option for rural broadband comes to St. Joseph

St. Joseph area residents contributed more than 17,0000 school supplies to United Way's 14th annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive during Tax Free weekend. 

Additionally, officials say $2,300 was donated to purchase supplies that were not donated.   

Since 2009, the inaugural year of Stuff the Bus, community members have donated more than 259,000 school supplies to the annual drive. 

Collected school supplies will be distributed by the Salvation Army of St. Joseph on Thursday August 11th starting at 9am.   Proof of residency, the child's date of birth, social security numbers, and food stamp letters or proof of income will be required.  

Following the Salvation Army distribution any leftover school supplies will be distributed by the United Way of Greater St. Joseph to schools and teachers that are in need of supplies.

St. Joseph residents "Stuff the Bus" over Tax Free weekend

A veteran state representative and long-time agriculture
educator emerged from a three-way race to win the Republican nomination for the
sprawling 12th Missouri state Senate District.

Rep. Rusty Black of Chillicothe easily won the primary,
garnering nearly 65% of the vote over Rep. J. Eggleston and former Rep. Delus Johnson.

“I mean, I was hopeful that I could get up in the 50-percent
range and the fact that we did so well was surprising, honestly,” Black says. “I
attribute the fact, not to what Karie and I did directly, but what our campaign
people did in each one of those counties.”

Black taught agricultural classes at Nodaway-Holt and Chillicothe
for 32 years before retiring to run for state representative; first winning a
seat in the Missouri House in 2016.

Black credits all those years in the agriculture classroom in
large part for his victory.

“It may sound corny to some people, but teaching ag in a rural
district like this for 33 years and building those relationships, I think that
was an advantage for Rusty Black.”

The 12th Missouri state Senate District is huge,
covering 19 counties that stretch from Atchison County, as far northwest as you
can go in Missouri, to Chariton County in south-central Missouri.

Black says you cannot cover it yourself during a campaign; you
must have help. No matter, Black pledges to be easily accessible if he becomes
the district’s senator.

“I hopefully will be lucky enough to represent an area that
really doesn’t want government involved,” Black says with a chuckle. “But, at
the same time, those citizens need to be involved in government and know what
Rusty Black’s doing and share their (thoughts). Hopefully, some times they
thank me and hopefully they have no trouble getting a hold of me and say, ‘This
was stupid. Why’d you do that?’”

Black faces Democrat Michael Baumli of Maryville in November.

range and the fact that we did so well was surprising, honestly,” Black says. “I
attribute the fact, not to what Karie and I did directly, but what our campaign
people did in each one of those counties.”Black taught agricultural classes at Nodaway-Holt and Chillicothe
for 32 years before retiring to run for state representative; first winning a

The pickup's towed unit began to fishtail and the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road.&nbsp; The pickup returned to the road, crossed the center line, began to rotate and traveled off the right side of the road a second time. The towed unit detached from the pickup. The pickup struck a ditch and overturned on its top.

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on new charges after an arrest.

On Saturday, police arrested 44-year-old&nbsp;Nichlos W. Norton of Atchison on a Jackson County Kansas warrant for theft, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

In May, Norton was arrested on requested charges of driving while suspended. In 2021, he was in custody for alleged possession of stolen property, a felony warrant and failure to appear, according to online jail records.

Police arrest wanted Kansas man for alleged theft

Attorney General Eric Schmitt rose above the crowd to win the
Republican nomination for United States Senator after a bruising campaign that
some suggest might split Missouri Republicans.

Schmitt won more than 45% of the vote among 21 Republican
candidates to succeed United States Sen. Roy Blunt, a Republican who is
retiring. Schmitt defeated Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, who came in second,
and former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, who was making a political comeback bid.
Greitens accused Schmitt of running a smear campaign against him.

Northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves, a Republican, says
despite the cost and rancor of the campaign, it won’t ruin party unity.

“I don’t see as much of a fissure as some people might like to
point out,” Graves tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “I think it’s going to be fine.”

Still, some suggest the contentious campaign, especially
between Schmitt and Greitens, might split the party, making the seat vulnerable
in November.

Graves doesn’t feel the seat is vulnerable.

“It’s sad to see Sen. Blunt leave, but now we’re looking at
who those new candidates are going to be and I think it’ll turn out just fine.”

Democrats targeted Kansas last election cycle, though
unsuccessfully. Graves isn’t sure whether Democrats will use similar tactics in
Missouri.

“That’s hard to tell,” Graves says. “There’s a lot of money
out there and, obviously, the control of the United States Senate is at stake.
So, I think you’re probably going to see a lot of money flow into the state.”

There might be a lot of money spent during the General
Election campaign. Democrats wager they have a better shot, since it is an open
seat. Graves is confident Schmitt will win in November.

“Missouri is a conservative state,” Graves says. “I wouldn’t
necessarily say Democrat or Republican, but it’s a very conservative state and
that’s what people are going to be looking at when it comes to the election in
November.”

Schmitt will face Trudy Busch
Valentine, a nurse and philanthropist who defeated Marine veteran Lucas Kunce
and nine others in the Democratic primary. Republican leaders have long feared
that a Greitens win would jeopardize a red state Senate seat in the November.
Greitens resigned four years ago. The resignation followed a sex scandal, two
criminal charges that were eventually dropped, and the risk of impeachment.
This year, his ex-wife accused him of abuse. 

There is a wild card in this
race. John Wood, a Republican running as an independent, could siphon votes
away from Schmitt. Wood has some money behind his campaign. He has the backing
of a PAC funded mostly by former Republican Sen. John Danforth.

Sen. Blunt, a Republican,
announced last year that he would not seek a third term.

Congressman Graves doesn't consider Missouri Senate seat vulnerable

Mitch Holthus is entering his 29th year as radio voice of the Kansas City Chiefs.

He's experienced the highs and lows of the modern era in Chiefs football. He went to training camp for 16 years in River Falls, Wisconsin, the one training camp in Kansas City in 2020 and now for the 12th time, he's watching the team come into form on the Mosaic Training Fields at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.

"Every year seems like the first year," Holthus told KFEQ Radio. "I know that sounds trite or corny, but truthfully, it's that feeling. I feel like I'm a rookie every year. That's what I tell the team. Your stomach churns, you get nervous and every day is just awesome."

Holthus has had a front row seat to what's surely been the best 10-year stretch in franchise history. Six straight AFC West championships. Nine straight winning seasons. Eight playoff berths since 2013. Four straight AFC Championship games at Arrowhead Stadium. The first Super Bowl win 50 years. The list goes on.

Yet, heading into 2022, despite all of this recent success and a star-studded roster, Holthus believes this team has something to prove, even though they've proven themselves time and again.

"This is a team that has very unique focus," he said. "They're hyperfocused, starting with their biggest stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Truthfully, there's a chip on these guys' shoulder."

The 2021 season left a sour taste. Whether it was the 3-4 start, or blowing a 21-3 lead to Cincinnati in the AFC title game. The Tyreek Hill trade in March gave doubters some fuel as well. Holthus believes all of those factors combined gave this team a unique swagger in the offseason.

"They've come in here a little ticked off," he noted.&nbsp; "I saw it in minicamp, I saw it in OTAs and I've seen it so far here in St. Joe."

Hill is a franchise changing player, but the Chiefs picked up veteran receivers Juju Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency. Plus, rookie receiver Skyy Moore has been a breakout star in camp. As has rookie running back Isiah Pacheco.

You also look at running back Ronald Jones and safety Justin Reid - two veterans picked up in free agency that could have a big impact on how the Chiefs do.

"To add that with what's already here and the new rookies...somebody pick them fourth in the division, but do so at your own peril."

This marks the last year that Chiefs training camp is required to be in St. Joseph, according to the current agreement. There are two more optional years after this, but Missouri Western and Chiefs leadership will evaluate the contract once camp is over.

With only about six or seven teams left in the NFL that stil travel outside of their home city for camp, Holthus is hopeful the Chiefs will keep coming back to Missouri Western.

"They've been phenomenal," Holthus said of the University. "Mosaic (Life Care) has been phenomenal. The merchants, people like HyVee, have been phenomenal. It's a great camp. People say you're going away for camp. We're only going 50 minutes away. It's not like we're in Wisconsin."

"We've had 11 camps in St. Joe and have been to the playoffs in eight of those 11 years. I don't think it's a coincidence that the most successful nine years in Chiefs history, a lot of it is Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but this is where those seasons begin - right here on this campus and right here in this city."

As for a season prediction? Holthus doesn't put out a specific number of wins and losses. Though, he's confident a Super Bowl contender is being molded yet again. Even if others on the outside don't feel that way anymore.

"This is a refocused, recharged, rebooted team," he said. "There's a lot of talent and the coaching is superb. It's crazy that a team that is this successful is actually, in a way, going to sneak up on people. But, that's the way I feel."

Changes will be coming to I-229 and the double-decker bridge
in downtown St. Joseph, but what those changes might be have yet to be decided.

St. Joseph Mayor John Josendale says he wants some tweaks made
to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s plans for changes to I-229, but
that the city and MoDOT are close to agreement on its future.

Josendale says city officials discussed I-229 at length with
members of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission during their
visit to St. Joseph this week. Josendale says MoDOT has narrowed the choices
for the future of I-229 to four alternatives.

“Again, what people need to understand is that the four
options that are out there are a placement and it’s a work in progress,”
Josendale tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. “So, we’re trying to get
input from the stakeholders, from the people, as to what are the tweaks that
need to be made with it to where it would go best.”

It appears MoDOT is set on replacing the double-decker bridge.
None of the alternatives include it and MoDOT officials contend it is too
costly to maintain. Interstate 229 likely will lose its interstate designation
as well, transferring to a federal highway, such as U.S. 36.

Josendale says giving up the interstate designation could actually
greatly benefit St. Joseph, especially in creating access to downtown St.
Joseph. 

“There’ll be a new interchange at the north end at St. Joseph Avenue
that would give it access both to the north and the south,” according to
Josendale. “How that actually interacts is one of the things that we’re talking
about.”

Josendale says the city officials don’t see a real downside to
dropping the interstate designation.

“It depends on if you’re worried about what the badge is,” Josendale
says. “If you remember the highway that goes up to Maryville is (U.S.) 71 and
this could be a continuation of 71. It doesn’t necessarily change, but it wouldn’t
have a blue banner on it. It might have a white banner on it.”

Josendale says the drop of the interstate designation gives
MoDOT more leeway to provide access to downtown St. Joseph. It also could help
spur development north of St. Joseph. The mayor says the city wants to make
sure farmers retain a good highway system to south St. Joseph.

Josendale encourages residents to make their feelings known
either through the special I-229 website or in upcoming public hearings.

City and MoDOT close to agreement on I-229 future

School is just around the corner and students are in need of new school supplies for the school year. &nbsp;

The United Way of Greater St. Joseph is prepared to help. &nbsp;

Director of Community Investment Jodi Flurry says the United Way along with the salvation Army will work to 'Stuff the Bus' with school supplies to distribute to students. &nbsp;

"We work to get those school supplies to kids, to teachers, and to schools so they have the supplies they need to start the school year off right," Flurry tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "This weekend we will be at both north and south Belt Walmart's with hundreds of volunteers to help encourage shoppers to buy some new school supplies that they'll then donate, and we'll be out there with a big yellow school bus thanks to Apple Bus."&nbsp;

Flurry says for Stuff the Bus all different kinds of school supplies can be donated. &nbsp;

"So, if it's a kindergartner it's going to look like a very different backpack, so a backpack full with crayons, and colored pencils, and construction paper, scissors, and glue sticks, that's what your kindergartner is going to get," Flurry explains. "But if you're a high school student you need composition notebooks, you need blue, black, and red pens, #2 pencils, maybe a calculator."&nbsp;

Flurry says United Way volunteers will have lists to distribute at the doors of Walmart of items that can be donated. &nbsp;

Stuff the Bus will take place Friday and Saturday during Tax Free Weekend.&nbsp; Volunteers will be out from 8am to 7pm on Friday and 8am to 5:30pm on Saturday.&nbsp;

Flurry says once the busses are stuffed, it will then be given to the Salvation Army of St. Joseph to distribute to kids in need.&nbsp;

"And they're going to serve several hundred kids using the supplies collected through United Way Stuff the Bus," Flurry says. "Usually there's some supplies left over that we're able to help support kids that maybe couldn't make it or might live outside the Salvation Army service area, and then we also with leftover supplies if there's any remaining offer it up to schools."&nbsp;

Flurry says leftover supplies could be given to new teachers that could use new supplies as well as older teachers that could also use them.&nbsp;

"This weekend we will be at both north and south Belt Walmart's with hundreds of volunteers to help encourage shoppers to buy some new school supplies that they'll then donate, and we'll be out there with a big yellow school bus thanks to Apple Bus."&nbsp;Flurry says for Stuff the Bus all different kinds of school supplies can be donated. &nbsp;"So, if it's a kindergartner it's going to look like a very different backpack, so a backpack full with crayons, and colored pencils, and construction paper, scissors, and glue sticks, that's what your kindergartner is going to get," Flurry explains. "But if you're a high school student you need composition notebooks, you need blue, black, and red pens, #2 pencils, maybe a calculator."&nbsp;Flurry says United Way volunteers will have lists to distribute at the doors of Walmart of items that can be donated. &nbsp;Stuff the Bus will take place Friday and Saturday during Tax Free Weekend.&nbsp; Volunteers will be out from 8am to 7pm on Friday and 8am to 5:30pm on Saturday.&nbsp;Flurry says once the busses are stuffed, it will then be given to the Salvation Army of St. Joseph to distribute to kids in need.&nbsp;"And they're going to serve several hundred kids using the supplies collected through United Way Stuff the Bus," Flurry says. "Usually there's some supplies left over that we're able to help support kids that maybe couldn't make it or might live outside the Salvation Army service area, and then we also with leftover supplies if there's any remaining offer it up to schools."&nbsp;Flurry says leftover supplies could be given to new teachers that could use new supplies as well as older teachers that could also use them.&nbsp;<figure>

CALDWELL COUNTY—A Missouri man was injured in an accident just after 10a.m. Thursday in Caldwell County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Kia Sorento driven by Sydney P. Harris, 19, Columbia, was westbound on MO. 116 just west of MO. 13.&nbsp;

The car traveled across the center of the road, off the south side of the road into the U.S. Post Office parking lot and struck the front of a 2017 Chevy Cruz driven by Billy J. Helton, 70, Polo.

Caldwell County EMS transported Helton to Liberty Hospital. Harris was not injured. Helton was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.&nbsp;

The St. Joseph Health Department will hold a clinic on Friday to raise awareness of vaccinations that some parents might not realize are needed. &nbsp;

The St. Joseph Health Department, along with Mosaic Life Care, have chosen Friday as Teen Immunization Day. &nbsp;

Health Educator Stephanie Malita says Teen Immunization has been a partnership with Mosaic over the last few years. &nbsp;

"It's kind of just to draw attention to the fact that teens going into eighth grade and twelfth grade also have booster requirements," Malita tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "People think of back-to-school boosters as being for the younger kids, and certainly the kindergartners need them as well, but that's sort of more common knowledge I guess."&nbsp;

Malita says Teen Immunization Day is designed to encourage teens to come in and get those shots taken care of. &nbsp;

Malita says just like anything else during the back-to-school season, the need for these shots can sneak up on parents. &nbsp;

"People sort of get caught up in, pretty soon we'll have that tax free weekend, so everybody will be out shopping for school supplies but in terms of getting the vaccinations done, that's not always top of mind for parents," Malita explains. "Especially, like I said, when it comes to the teens but there are some really important immunizations that will help protect them better."&nbsp;

Malita says some of the required vaccinations teens need to receive are against meningitis and tetanus.&nbsp; The Health Department is also offering the COVID-19 vaccine.&nbsp;

Last year in August alone, during the back-to-school period, the St. Joseph Health Department gave nearly 14-thousand non-flu shots Malita says.&nbsp;

"When you're talking about doing essentially half of your business for the year in one month, that tells you how crowded it gets in the lobby and your wait time increases," Malita says. "So, if you can get here this week, or to your regular provider."&nbsp;

Malita reminds parents that without the required vaccinations students will not be able to start school when classes begin later this month.&nbsp;

Teen Immunization Day reminds parents to get teens immunized ahead of back to school

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday, police arrested&nbsp; 31-year-old Scott A. Gann of Atchison on a Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear in court, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Police arrested him in June an in December of 2021 on a similar charges, according to online jail records.

Since 2012, Gann has been jailed over a dozen times on requested charges of failure to appear, domestic battery and escape from&nbsp; custody, according to online jail records.

As stock prices continue to dip lower and lower the first instinct may be to panic, but financial advisors say the best course of action is to stay the course&nbsp;

"And there's really no telling how long it might last," Nold tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "But, one thing that happens is markets tend to price sell offs in advance so even when we get to an actual damage or an actual recession, sometimes that's the point where the market turns around or maybe even before the recession actually hits."&nbsp;

Nold says what makes this stock downturn scarier is that bonds are also down.&nbsp;

"Will the Fed cause a recession basically."&nbsp;The stock market continues to decline causing panic amongst investors.&nbsp; The best advice financial advisors can give? &nbsp;Just stay the course. &nbsp;Nold says in meetings with clients he advises that generally in this kind of market, the best course of action is to stick with your strategy and ride it out.&nbsp;"Selling while the market’s low is a good way to damage your financial plan," Nold says. "So just sticking with it and staying the course."&nbsp;Also, Nold says - even though it might not seem the best time to invest - there is no better time than now to begin investing while prices are low and you can begin making contributions.&nbsp;
