A St. Joseph business has been ordered to wind down its
operations and liquidate after federal and state regulators found longstanding environmental
violations.

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri issued
the order against HPI Products.

The City of St. Joseph, in a news release, states the court
order responds to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri
Department of Natural Resources findings against HPI.

The city reports that in its ruling, the Court stated,
"given the intrinsically dangerous nature of Receivership Defendants’ businesses,
the health and safety of the public and the environment requires Receivership
Defendants’ businesses be wound down…" ordering the temporary receiver to
conclude the wind down by November 18th.

The temporary receiver will be removing hazardous wastes from
the HPI property during clean up.

City officials will continue to pursue the city’s separate action
against HP in Buchanan County Circuit Court.

"It's unfortunate that the capabilities and resources
were not available to maintain operations in a safe and environmentally sound
manner. We are committed to protecting the health and welfare of our community
and we will work with our State and Federal partners to ensure expeditious and
safe closure," City Manager Bryan Carter said in a written statement
released by the city.

&nbsp;In January, the federal
court appointed a receiver to HPI and froze the company’s assets.

accurately, a French military crew has flown to Rosecrans Memorial Airport to
attend the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center course operated by the Air
National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing.

Colonel
John Cluck, Commander of the 139th, says he has been looking forward
to the crew’s arrival, especially since the French brought the A-400 Atlas,
better known as the military version of the Airbus.

“So,
we’re excited about that. I’ve never been in the aircraft. I’m super jazzed
about it and looking forward to the opportunity to go in and look around, just
because it’s a new platform,” Cluck tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “Our Air Force
does not own any of those. It’s a European Union-type of aircraft.”

France
becomes the 17th allied nation to join the Airlift Tactics family at
the 139th. The French crew will go through the two-week military
tactical course operated out of the Air National Guard base at Rosecrans.

“I
think that’s a tremendous feather in the cap of the 139th that they
come to a small airfield in the middle of northwest Missouri to learn how to fly
the newest tactical platforms,” Cluck says.

Cluck
says this is the first time an Airbus has participated.

“We’re
always looking for new ways to engage and this is a great opportunity,”
according to Cluck.

Missouri
National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Levon Compton, welcomed the French crew
upon their arrival at Rosecrans.

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged domestic incident and have a woman in custsody.

On Friday, police arrested April J. Thomas, 48, Atchison, was arrested on a Community Corrections detain order, according to police Chief Mike Wilson.

On August 24 and September 13,&nbsp; she was jailed on a requested charges of domestic battery, according to online jail records.

She posted bond and is no longer in custody. Police released no additional details.

Kan. woman accused of domestic battery jailed 3 times in a month

A 2019 Kia Soul 4-door driven by Jefferson Brooks, Jr., 44, Wichita, was&nbsp; eastbound on Atchison Street and entered the intersection at 9th Street, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The Kia collided with a southbound 2006 Ford Focus 4-door driven by Judith Fridell, 79, Atchison.

EMS transported Fridell to Mosaic Life Care. A private vehicle transported&nbsp; a 16-year-old boy in the Ford to Amberwell Hospital for examination of possible injuries. 

Brooks was examined at the scene by EMS for possible injuries but refused transport. Police cited Brooks for failure to yield and no valid driver’s license, according to Wilson.

PLATTE COUNTY—A Missouri man died in an accident just before 7:30p.m. Saturday in Platte County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Joshuwa W. Wiley, 42, Kansas City, Mo. was northbound on Interstate 435 near the Weston Exit.

The vehicle rear-ended a 2022 Aprilia motorcycle driven by Edward M. Strickland, 30, Kansas City, Mo. Both riders were ejected.&nbsp;

Wiley was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Frontier Forensics. Lifeflight transported Strickland to KU Medical Center. Both men were wearing helmets, according to the MSHP.

Just after 9p.m. on Thursday officers investigated an altercation that had occurred in a parking lot in the 700 block Kansas Avenue, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

 A 39-year-old victim reported being threatened by a man she did not know who was holding what appeared to be a handgun. The victim saw an officer on patrol nearby and notified him.

Police arrested Kyle A. Lawley, 32, Atchison, on requested charges of aggravated assault. Police also recovered a pellet gun resembling a handgun at the scene, according to Wilson. In 2021, police arrested Lawley on requested charges of domestic battery, violating a protection order and a bond violation, according to online jail records.

ATCHISON&nbsp;– Governor Laura Kelly Saturday joined the Amelia Earhart Foundation in honoring its namesake with a statue unveiling ceremony. The bronze statue, located at the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum, is the sister statue of the one that was installed in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol in July, according to a media release.

“How better to cement our state’s legacy as the Air Capitol of the World than with a statue at the museum that celebrates a woman who showed all of us what it means to “reach for the stars,”&nbsp;Governor Laura Kelly said.&nbsp;“I want to express my deepest appreciation for this museum and for this immortalization of an extraordinary individual who truly represents the best of the Kansas spirit.”

Born and raised in Atchison, Kansas, Earhart received her pilot license in 1923 and subsequently championed the advancement of women in aviation. She is one of the world’s most celebrated aviators and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart was declared lost at sea when she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in 1937.

"Amelia Earhart's&nbsp;bravery and relentless fighting for equality for women and girls still gives my generation strength and inspiration,”&nbsp;Gabrielle Henry, Amelia Earhart's great-great niece, said.&nbsp;“It is an honor to have her blood run in my veins, and even more so to hold her values in my heart."

Gov. celebrates legacy of Amelia Earhart with statue unveiling 

ATCHISON COUNTY, Mo.—A Missouri teen was injured in an accident just after 4a.m. Saturday in Atchison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Chevy Silverado driven by a 15-year-old boy from Rock Port was northbound on Highway 275 at Route CC five miles south of Hamburg, Iowa.

The pickup traveled off the east side of the road, across Route CC, off the northeast corner of the intersection and down an embankment.

Atchison-Holt ambulance transported the teen to the hospital in Hamburg. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

15-year-old Missouri boy hospitalized after pickup crash

The front drivers side of the Honda struck the rear of a westbound 2014 GMC 1500 driven by Sayyadina M. Uehling, 29, Polo, in the. intersection.

EMS transported Lapai to Trenton Hospital. Uehling was not injured. Lapai was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Just before Noon on Thursday officers responded to Walmart at 1920 U.S.73 in Atchison to investigate a theft in progress, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

 Officers located 28-year-old Tong Yang as he was leaving the store with sports cards that had a total value of $3,777 in a large tote container that was also stolen from the store.

Police arrested Tong Yang on requested charges of theft. He remains in custody without bond, according to online jail records.

The St. Joseph Symphony kicks off its new season this weekend. &nbsp;

Tomorrow, the new season begins at the Missouri Theatre with a performance entitled Beautiful and Brahms.&nbsp;

Music Conductor and Director Christopher Kelts says this is music familiar to everyone. &nbsp;

"You've listened to Brahms for years and years, we know the ins and outs but you don't have to know the ins and outs to hear something you enjoy, or have a reaction to, or feel moved, or swept away, or I'll dare say it fall asleep let's be honest," Kelts tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr.&nbsp;

The performance will begin at 7pm on Saturday at the Missouri Theatre with a social time following the performance.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Kelts says his goal with the symphony in an arts centered town like St. Joseph, is to provide an experience.&nbsp;

"We're an arts organization in this great city with other arts fabrics and threads that when you come to the St. Joseph Symphony you will have an experience," Kelts says. "And we want that experience to be meaningful, sometimes that experience is fun, sometimes people will hear something they don't understand, but that's the point."&nbsp;

St. Joseph Symphony kicks off new season this weekend

Adoption events held by the St. Joseph Animal Shelter have been successful, but the shelter is still overflowing with pets. &nbsp;

And because of that the Friends of the Animal Shelter is once again helping with reducing adoption fees.&nbsp;

Friends of the Animal Shelters Melanie Barnes says through Saturday adoption fees for all pets will only be 25 dollars. &nbsp;

With the animal shelter still overflowing with pets, Friends of the Animal Shelter will hold different events in October to help encourage adoption. &nbsp;

Barnes says the first event coming in October will be a concert called the Barks and Brews fundraiser.&nbsp;

"This year, last year if you remember we actually had it outside at the new shelter we couldn't have it inside we had it outside it was a great event but it was sketchy because of the weather and obviously with this decline in temperature we didn't want the same thing," Barnes says. "So, this year we have the Metropolitan, the owners of the Metropolitan event space donated their space to us."&nbsp;

Barks and Brews will be held on October 1st at The Metropolitan.&nbsp; The event will feature different bands, including St. Joseph favorite the Blue Oyster Culture Club. &nbsp;

The event will also feature several different pets that are available for adoption from the shelter.&nbsp;

An event that began last year to help encourage pet adoption will return this year as well with the second annual zombie walk. &nbsp;

Barnes says all of this is being put on by St. Joseph citizens. &nbsp;

"It's a great group of bars that are starting it, it kicks off on October 15th at 5 pm, I think they start the parade down to the different bars staunch at 6:30," Barnes explains. "You get a t-shirt, you're supposed to dress up make up and everything, they're going to go from Cafe Acoustic at 6:30, down to Norty's, and then back up with multiple bars in between."&nbsp;

The event will feature raffles and giveaways and the animal shelter will also have some animals out that are up for adoption at the walk.&nbsp;

Successful adoption events help St. Joseph animal shelter, but overpopulation persists

Northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves wants to head off an
increase in postal rates.

Graves, a Republican, co-sponsors legislation that would direct
the Postal Regulatory Commission to rethink the authority it gave the United
States Postal Service to raise rates.

“Americans are paying more for everything,” Graves tells
KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “The last thing we need is higher postage rates,
particularly when the U.S. Postal Service; they actually posted a $60 billion
profit last quarter.”

Graves says the Postal Service has become profitable since
Congress lifted the requirement that it pre-fund retirement benefits.

The Postal Regulatory Commission recently removed the requirement
that the Postal Service only raise rates to adjust to inflation.

Graves signed on to legislation, entitled <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/8781/cosponsors?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22ensuring+accurate+postal+rates%22%2C%22ensuring%22%2C%22accurate%22%2C%22postal%22%2C%22rates%22%5D%7D&amp;r=1&amp;s=6">Ensuring Accurate
Postal Rates Act</a>, which would repeal the move of the Postal Regulatory
Commission to allow the Postal Service to raise rates higher than the rate of
inflation.

“I think the Postal Service is just taking advantage of this
opportunity and they’re going in with these huge rate hikes to generate
capital,” Graves says. “It’s not needed at this point. They need to get their
act cleaned up and that’s what this bill is trying to do.”

Graves contends the Postal Service has taken advantage of the
change to raise rates in an effort to generate capital. Graves says the
legislation goes beyond just sending the Postal Service a message.

“Yes, it does,” Graves says. “It forces them to rethink this
postal hike that they are doing. We’ll take that authority back away from them
if we have to, but this is going to force them to go back to the table and
rethink that postal hike.”

The original sponsor of the legislation is Virginia
Congressman Gerald Connolly.

Graves so-sponsors the legislation along with fellow
Republican Jake LaTurner of Kansas as well as Democrat Emanuel Cleaver of
Kansas City.

A move in Congress could cut off a hike in postal rates

A man in his mid-20s has been arrested on suspicion of driving
drunk after his car ran off the road, hit a light pole, and took out a fence
very early this morning behind the Shoppes at North Village.

St. Joseph police report the wreck occurred at 2:15 Friday morning, when the car drove off the road in the 3500 block of North
Village Drive, behind Best Buy. The car ran into a utility pole, then went
through a fence.

The driver suffered minor injuries. He was charged with

Shortly before 1:00a.m. on Thursday police responded to the 800 block South 6th Street in Atchison&nbsp; to check on the welfare of a person, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

After officers arrived they observed a 2017 Chevrolet 4 door vehicle at the scene and determined it was a vehicle reported stolen in Leavenworth on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Officers arrested 31-year-old Sacandra L. Casiano, 31, Atchison, on a requested charge of possession of stolen property. She is being held without bond.

A revamped national hotline that aims
 to aid people in a mental health crisis saw a 34% increase in calls 
from Missouri in August from a year prior.

The National Suicide Prevention 
Lifeline transitioned nationwide July 16 to the new three-digit 988 
Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which aims to assist callers in moments of 
crisis and connect them with mental health resources at a time when 
mental health issues have been on the rise, <a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2022/03/29/lawmakers-weigh-bills-to-offer-suicide-prevention-training-as-mental-health-issues-rise/">especially among young adults</a>.

In August, the 988 hotline received 
3,770 calls from Missouri, with 3,461 of those calls, or 92%, answered 
in-state, according to figures provided by the Department of Mental 
Health. That month, which contains the first full month of data since 
the three-digit number was launched, there were also 756 texts and 807 
chats from Missouri.

Missouri’s 988 hotline is operated by seven providers who <a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2022/08/15/missouri-crisis-centers-see-wave-of-calls-since-the-988-suicide-hotlines-launch/">previously reported an immediate increase in calls in the hotline’s first weeks of transition</a>.
 When those centers’ lines are busy, calls are routed to the national 
call center, said Debra Walker, a spokeswoman for the department.

The hotline does not yet have 
geolocation services, which would route a caller to the nearest call 
center based on their location, like 911 does. Calls are currently sent 
to the nearest call center based on a caller’s area code.

The increase in calls is evidence 
that Missouri should continue to allocate funding for the hotline 
long-term, said Rep. Patty Lewis, a Kansas City Democrat who serves on 
the House Health and Mental Health Policy Committee and <a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2021/09/07/missouri-will-become-the-last-state-to-enforce-federal-mental-health-parity-act/">has passed legislation on mental health care</a>.

“We see in every single corner — 
rural, urban, Democrat, Republican — there’s a mental health crisis in 
our state,” Lewis said, later adding: “We need to continue to support 
this.”

While over $30 million in state and federal funds <a target="_blank" href="https://oa.mo.gov/sites/default/files/FY_2023_HB_10_TAFP_Fact_Sheet.pdf">has been allocated to the hotline’s implementation in Missouri</a>,
 the state has yet to pass legislation authorized by Congress to add a 
monthly fee to phone bills to help permanently fund the hotline and 
crisis services — <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/992bb8db59754f11855345cb08b123a6">similar to how 911 call centers are funded</a>.

So far, at least four states have enacted such fees, <a target="_blank" href="https://reimaginecrisis.org/map/">according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness</a>, with the highest set to go into effect next year <a target="_blank" href="https://dor.wa.gov/taxes-rates/other-taxes/statewide-988-behavioral-health-crisis-response-suicide-prevention-line-tax">at $0.40 per line in Washington</a>.

It remains to be seen if Missouri lawmakers will pursue that option come January when the annual legislative begins.

Sen. Lincoln Hough, a Springfield Republican who sponsored <a target="_blank" href="https://www.senate.mo.gov/22info/BTS_Web/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&amp;BillID=75694409">a bill</a> to print <a target="_blank" href="https://missouriindependent.com/2022/03/29/lawmakers-weigh-bills-to-offer-suicide-prevention-training-as-mental-health-issues-rise/">the 988 hotline number on student ID cards</a>, said he ultimately wants to ensure the resources will be there when callers reach out needing help.

“I’d like to see what it’s really 
going to cost on the back end to make sure those services are there,” 
said Hough, who is anticipated to be the chairman of the Senate 
​​Appropriations Committee next year, “and then come up with the funding
 mechanism.”

The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.samhsa.gov/newsroom/press-announcements/20220909/hhs-secretary-988-transition-moves-closer-to-better-serving-crisis-care-needs">increase in calls in Missouri echoes the gains seen nationally</a>,
 with 152,000 more contacts to the hotline, or a 45% increase in overall
 volume in August 2022 compared to August 2021, according to figures 
released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services earlier 
this month. Altogether, the hotline saw 361,140 calls, chats and texts 
in August.

While calls have increased, the average wait time and abandonment rate in Missouri has declined, Walker said.

The average speed to answer a call in
 Missouri after the hotline’s automated greeting is 33 seconds faster 
than it was a year ago — down to 30 seconds from 1 minute and 3 seconds 
in 2021, according to state figures.

“Missouri has significantly improved how quickly calls were answered,” Walker said.

The rate at which calls are abandoned
 in Missouri before a counselor can answer decreased by 10%, going from 
18% in 2021 to 8% in 2022, according to state figures. In August of last
 year, Missouri’s call centers saw 543 abandoned calls compared to 290 
in August of this year.

Calls may be disconnected for a 
variety of reasons, such as if a person decides to end the call or if 
the call is dropped due to technical issues.

Nationwide, the average speed to 
answer across calls, chats and texts also decreased from 2 minutes and 
30 seconds last year to 42 seconds, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/988/performance-metrics">according to HHS</a>, with 43,092, or 12%, of all contacts abandoned in August.

A <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/15/us/988-mental-health-lifeline.html">New York Times analysis previously found</a> that about 18% of the 1 million phone calls to the hotline in the first half of the year were abandoned.

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged sexual assault and have made an arrest.

On Wednesday, police arrested 25-year-old Zachary S. Pickman of St. Joseph on a District Court warrant for aggravated sexual battery, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

He was booked into the Atchison County Jail on a requested charge of sexual assault that occurred in 2016.&nbsp; He posted bond and is not longer in custody, according to online jail reords.&nbsp;

St. Joseph man accused of sexual assault

A new library will be built in St. Joseph after the board of the Rolling Hills Library approved the plan for a new multi-million-dollar building. &nbsp;

The board approved building the new St. Joseph branch on a 5-to-3 vote.&nbsp;

Rolling Hills Library Director Michelle Mears says the board had been considering building a new branch for quite some time.&nbsp;

"We have been examining our existing facilities and looking to the future to make sure that we have the resources and the facilities in place in order to serve our library district," Mears tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "There of course was some delay during COVID, cause everything kind of got put on hold during COVID, we didn't really think too much about the future (because) we were thinking too much about the present."&nbsp;

A search for a new location will soon be underway. Mears says the goal is to move the library into the taxing district that it serves.&nbsp;

Mears says a new building will allow the library to expand its services. . .&nbsp;

"Right now, we're kind of like a square peg in a round hole, this building was purchased and renovated for a library and for our administrative office, but being on two levels and being a strip mall building in a commercial district, it's not really conducive to a library service we wish it was," Mears explains. "So, we're looking to have some outdoor features, being able to have some green space."&nbsp;

Mears wants the new building to have an outdoor space for reading time, especially after the library couldn’t allow people to gather inside during the coronavirus pandemic. &nbsp;

There is no timeline currently for when the library will start building, and Director Michelle Mears isn't in a hurry to release a timeline. &nbsp;

"There's no rush, there's no reason to not take the time we need to examine and try to find a great piece of land and go through the process of planning it with the architects and that sort of thing," Mears says. "There's really no need to move quickly on any of that."&nbsp;

The hope is to have the library open in the next two to three years.&nbsp;

 </figure>By MATT PIKE&nbsp;St. Joseph Post&nbsp;A new library will be built in St. Joseph after the board of the Rolling Hills Library approved the plan for a new multi-million-dollar building. &nbsp;The board approved building the new St. Joseph branch on a 5-to-3 vote.&nbsp;Rolling Hills Library Director Michelle Mears says the board had been considering building a new branch for quite some time.&nbsp;"We have been examining our existing facilities and looking to the future to make sure that we have the resources and the facilities in place in order to serve our library district," Mears tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. "There of course was some delay during COVID, cause everything kind of got put on hold during COVID, we didn't really think too much about the future (because) we were thinking too much about the present."&nbsp;A search for a new location will soon be underway. Mears says the goal is to move the library into the taxing district that it serves.&nbsp;Mears says a new building will allow the library to expand its services. . .&nbsp;"Right now, we're kind of like a square peg in a round hole, this building was purchased and renovated for a library and for our administrative office, but being on two levels and being a strip mall building in a commercial district, it's not really conducive to a library service we wish it was," Mears explains. Rolling Hills votes to build new library 

A man police describe to be in his 60s has been arrested on
suspicion of driving drunk after his car crashed into a house in the 800 block
of Mason Avenue.

St. Joseph police report the man drove off the road and hit
the side of the house around eight o'clock Wednesday evening. The house was vacant. The man is in custody, facing a charge
of driving while intoxicated.

The Missouri Department of Conservation completed a successful invasive carp removal project, removing even more than officials had hoped. &nbsp;

The goal of the project was to remove 15,000 pounds of invasive carp from the river, at the completion of the project department officials had removed 25,000 pounds.&nbsp;

The project improved the river habitat for native fish and provided information for how commercial operations might be used in the future to reduce invasive carp. A commercial fishing business will market the fish caught during this operation.&nbsp;

“We were able to run very smooth and efficiently,” said Department Supervisor Kasey Whitman in a news release. “The weather and the river cooperated.”&nbsp;

Since this was also a research project, every invasive carp was counted with a final tally of 6,716 fish. More than 95 percent were silver carp. Some grass carp and a few bighead carp were also caught. &nbsp;

The average size of the silver carp caught was three to four pounds. Those are fish that are two to three years old and are on the borderline to becoming sexually mature. So, removing them can help limit future spawn of invasives.&nbsp;

One surprise, Whiteman said, is that more paddlefish were caught than expected.&nbsp; All native fish caught were weighed, measured, and released unharmed outside the project zone. Most of the native fish caught were buffalo, carp suckers, and shad. &nbsp;

The information gathered will be used to guide future operations. If commercial invasive carp removal becomes feasible in the future, the operators under current regulations would only be allowed to use hoop nets, seines, gill nets, and trammel nets.&nbsp;

MDC appreciates the Grand River angling community for their patience and support for the project and the temporary access and river closing&nbsp;

“It’s a knowledge gain and learning so we can strategize for the future,” Whiteman says.&nbsp;

Department of Conservation removes more invasive carp than expected

St. Joseph Police Chief Chris Connally says many trends have
come and gone during his 38 years in law enforcement, but one recent trend
stands out.

Connally, who retires at the end of the month, says he has
never experienced the challenge he has seen in recruiting officers and has
rarely seen negativity as demonstrated by the “defund the police” movement.

“There’s always been negativity towards the police,” Connally
tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. “We’ve never seen what seems like an
organized demonization of the profession.”

Connally came to St. Joseph in 2006. Connally has been a
monthly guest on the KFEQ Hotline from the beginning. He appeared on the
program for the final time Wednesday. Connally retires at the end of the month.

Connally says trends in the news media as well as in social
media have hurt the perception of law enforcement.

Connally says shifts in how news is covered make it difficult
to tell the difference between straight reporting and editorializing. And while
the chief believes the police department could put social media to better use,
nothing replaces face-to-face communication.

“But I think, in the end, we have got to stand up on our
day-to-day performance,” Connally says. “We’ve got to stand up and do the right
thing for the right reasons and I think that’s something that the men and women
of our department and our community have done well, because we do see that we
have a lot more support than a lot of other communities.”

Aggravated assault, including domestic assault, has risen.
Property crime remains a problem.

Connally says drugs can be blamed in many instances, with the
nature of the drug problem shifting.

“When I got here the biggest part of the drug problem was being
really, really heavy on meth,” Connally says. “We were late getting into the
opioid (crisis). Opioids were hitting all over the state before it hit us, but
within about a year or two then opioids hit up here really hard as well.”

Commander Dave Hart, who joined the force in 1999, will serve
as the interim police chief.

DEKALB COUNTY—A Missouri woman was injured in an accident just before 10p.m. Wednesday in DeKalb County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2012 Ford Focus driven by Monica M. Wormsley, 34, Maysville, was northbound on Fairview Road two miles south of Amity.&nbsp;

The car crossed Ketchum Road and struck the embankment, went airborne and rolled on its top.&nbsp;

DeKalb-Clinton County EMS transported Wormsley to Cameron Regional Medical Center. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Missouri woman hospitalized after car overturns

Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph is caring for students involved in a school bus accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon at Riverside Road south of 36 Highway.

The bus was struck in the rear by another vehicle.Five juveniles were transported to Mosaic for minor injuries via ambulance, while five more were taken there by family members. There were no serious injuries from the accident.Mosaic CEO Mike Poore says all of the students were brought to the hospital have been reunited with their families.The accident occurred around 3 p.m. There were 24 total students on the bus from Central High School and Truman Middle School. The St. Joseph School District says they will provide counseling for those students who were passengers on the bus if needed.
