Northwest win streak moves to four with dominant win over Washburn

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats pushed their win streak to four games, after getting off to their worst start since 1995, scoring a dominant 51-34 win over Washburn on Saturday.&nbsp;

The Bearcats would show their dominance through the first half, scoring 20 unanswered points, first scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter taking advantage of a 20 mile per hour south wind, putting up points on back to back drives.&nbsp;

Northwest rushed for 48 yards on the first drive before Henry Martin connected with Zach Atkins on a three yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Then on the next drive, Chris Ruhnke would throw for a score hitting Andrew Bailey on a slant in the endzone for an eight yard score.&nbsp;

Noah Guastella would knock through two field goals extending the lead in the second quarter, field goals of 26 and 24 yards respectively, before Washburn would finally get onto the board near the end of the first half, Sam Van Dyne throwing a 13 yard touchdown pass to Maury Sullivan with 1:50 left on the clock, and finding the endzone again with 34 seconds remaining, a five yard touchdown jaunt by Keller Hurla.&nbsp; The Bearcats led 20-14 at halftime.&nbsp;

Northwest would score two more touchdowns on back to back drives to start the second half on two rushing touchdowns, first a one yard score from Wentric Miller III.&nbsp; Then on the next drive Tank Young would break several tackles, scampering for a 23 yard touchdown run to push the lead to 34-14.&nbsp;

The Ichabods would answer quickly following Young's first touchdown of the game, needing just one play for an 85 yard touchdown pass from Hurla to Tre Richardson.&nbsp; After forcing a punt from the Bearcats Washburn would draw within one score, Van Dyne again finding Sullivan on a nine yard score with 1:54 left in the third quarter.&nbsp;

Northwest would score another touchdown early on in the fourth quarter, another rushing touchdown this time from Te'Shaun Porter of two yards.&nbsp; Guastella would knock through another field goal midway through the quarter after a Washburn turnover on downs, this time from 38 yards away.&nbsp;

The Ichabods would score one final time with a 32 yard touchdown pass between Van Dyne and Richardson, but the Bearcats would immediately answer in one play with a 45 yard touchdown burst from Young,

Ruhnke was 16 of 27 through the air for 219 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Young recorded his first 100 yard game of the season rushing 12 times for 134 yards and two scores.&nbsp; Luke Mathews was the leading receiver with four catches for 94 yards.&nbsp;

Northwest will stay on the road next week and head to Edmond, Oklahoma for a matchup with Central Oklahoma and former head coach&nbsp;Adam Dorrel.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 1pm.&nbsp;

#12 Ravens set new season high point total in win over Culver-Stockton

The #12 Benedictine Ravens scored touchdowns on their first four possessions of the game and added a defensive score in the first 16 minutes of the game on way to a 56-21 win over Culver-Stockton at Poulton Stadium in Canton, Missouri.&nbsp;

Benedictine led 35-0 after the first quarter with two rushing touchdowns, a defensive touchdown, and two passing touchdowns. Dalton Witherspoon capped off a 57-yard drive for the Ravens opening touchdown, a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Jackson Dooley connected on a 13-yard pass to Jacob Gathright for the Ravens second touchdown before Trey Williams scored on a 25-yard fumble recovery to make it 21-0 Ravens before the midpoint of the first quarter. Robbie Sharp scored on a 9-yard rushing and then Tanner Zimmerman caught a 3-yard pass from Dooley to make it 35-0 Ravens as the first quarter ended.

Sharp scored on a 9-yard rush for the Ravens only touchdown of the second quarter and then the Wildcats finally got on the board late in the quarter with a 39 yard touchdown pass from Drake Day to Kyle Dixon to send the game into halftime with Benedictine leading 42-7.

Zimmerman scored his second touchdown of the game for Benedictine's third quarter score on a 22-yard pass from Dooley and then Dooley scored on a 1-yard rush for the Ravens fourth-quarter touchdown.

Culver Stockton would add two more touchdowns, both coming via Day, as the quarterback would connect with Eli Edmonds on a two yard touchdown pass, before later in the final quarter rushing in for a one yard score of his own.&nbsp;

The Ravens closed out Heart cross-division play with a new season-high point total as they finished the game against the Wildcats with 470 yards of total offense.

Dooley was 18 of 25 through the air for 281 yards and three touchdowns.&nbsp; Witherspoon rushed seven times for 70 yards with one score.&nbsp; Gathright caught four passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp;

The Ravens enter the bye week with an overall record of 5-1 with a 1-0 mark in the Heart South. They return to action on Oct. 18 hosting Missouri Baptist University at 1 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.

Missouri Western falls as #10 Pittsburg State runs wild in second half

The Missouri Western Griffons took the lead to start the second half, but #10 Pittsburg State would score 21 unanswered points to take the lead for good, en route to a 31-20 win over Western at Carnie Smith Stadium in Pittsburg, Kansas.&nbsp;

The Gorillas struck first in the first quarter with a 21 yard field goal from Hayden Koscicki on their first possession of the game.&nbsp; But the Griffons would answer immediately with a lengthy 13 play drive that ended with a one yard rushing score from Jayden Williams, but Cody Watson would miss the ensuing extra point.

Near the end of the opening quarter, Pittsburg State would take the lead back, scoring with just three seconds remaining in the quarter with a four yard run by Noah Hernandez. Neither team would score in the second quarter, the Gorillas holding a 10-6 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;

The Griffons would open up the second half with an eight play drive, and would take the lead with a 38 yard touchdown pass between Kody Kirk and Jonas Bennett, this time Watson converting the extra point.&nbsp; But from there, Pittsburg State would run wild scoring 21 unanswered points.&nbsp;

The Gorillas would get a rushing touchdown of three yards by Luke Niggemann to retake the lead. On the next Missouri Western drive, Kirk would throw an interception to Alex Gaskill and would get taken 44 yards to the endzone for a defensive score.&nbsp; Pittsburg State would score once more to start the fourth quarter, a one yard push into the endzone from Niggemann.&nbsp;

The Griffons final score of the game would come again through the air, Kirk connecting with Tyler Carey for a 50 yard touchdown pass with 7:38 remaining in the game.&nbsp; But on their next drive, the Gorillas would use up the remaining clock on a 13 play drive, that would end the game.&nbsp;

Kirk was 9 of 17 passing with 173 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Marrell Fountain rushed eight times for 65 yards while Bennett was the leading receiver with six catches for 115 yards and one score.&nbsp;

The Griffons will return to action next week on the road against No. 12 Central Missouri at 1:00 p.m. from Walton Stadium in Warrensburg for the MIAA Game of the Week, which will be broadcast locally on 38 The Spot.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 1pm&nbsp;

#9 Tigers can't get offense going against #25 Aggies at noisy Kyle Field

The #9 Missouri Tigers could not overcome the noisy environment of Kyle Field as the #25 Texas A&amp;M Aggies dominated their way to a 41-10 victory, making the Tigers one of five teams in the Top 11 to lose on Saturday.&nbsp;

From the get go the game was all Aggies in the first half, leading 24-0 at the halftime break.&nbsp; Texas A&amp;M got two rushing touchdowns from Amari Daniels, both from one yard out, and also a one yard rushing touchdown from&nbsp;Le'Veon Moss.&nbsp; Kicker Randy Bond also hit a 44 yard field goal in the opening half.&nbsp;

Out of the halftime break, Moss would score his second touchdown of the game, breaking off a 75 yard rushing score.&nbsp; Bond would knock through a 38 yard field goal en route to 34 unanswered points from the Aggies.&nbsp;

The Tigers would finally get on the board late in the third quarter, with a quick drive that lasted just over a minute and went five plays, ending with a 35 yard passing touchdown from Brady Cook to Theo Wease Jr.&nbsp;

Moss would score his third touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, an 18 yard jaunt to the endzone.&nbsp; The Tigers final score of the game came with just eight seconds left, a 23 yard field goal by Blake Craig.&nbsp;

Cook was 13 of 31 through the air for 186 yards and one touchdown.&nbsp; Nate Noel rushed 10 times for 30 yards while Marcus Carroll rushed eight times for 26 yards.&nbsp; Luther Burden III had seven catches for 82 yards, Wease Jr has two catches for 72 yards and a score.&nbsp;

The Missouri Tigers will stay on the road next week for their final non conference matchup against Massachusetts.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 11am, KFEQ will join pregame at 10pm.&nbsp; The game will be televised on ESPN2.&nbsp;

Kansas takes fifth straight loss on last second Arizona State touchdown

Jalon Daniels didn't turn the ball over for the first time this season, but an Arizona State touchdown with just 16 seconds remaining doomed the Kansas Jayhawks, falling 35-31 at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.&nbsp;

The teams would trade blows all through the first half.&nbsp; Arizona State striking first with a 28 yard touchdown pass from&nbsp;Sam Leavitt to&nbsp;Xavier Guillory.&nbsp; The Jayhawks would answer with a long 10 play drive that used over five minutes of clock, ending with a 22 yard rushing score from quarterback Jalon Daniels.&nbsp;

Kansas would take the lead early into the second quarter on another lengthy drive, this time Daniels scoring through the air and finding a wide open Quentin Skinner for a touchdown.&nbsp; The Sun Devils answered near the end of the first half Leavitt throwing a 26 yard touchdown pass to&nbsp;Chamon Metayer, leaving the game tied 14-14 at the halftime whistle.&nbsp;

The lone score of the third quarter would give Kansas the lead, a 20 yard field goal from Tabor Allen, before the fourth quarter where again the teams would go back and forth with the lead.&nbsp;

A 10 play drive by Arizona State that carried from the third quarter into the fourth quarter ended with a one yard touchdown run from&nbsp;Cam Skattebo at the start of the final frame.&nbsp; The Jayhawks would answer with a rushing score of their own, 31 yards by Devin Neal to take back the lead.&nbsp;

But again the Sun Devils would use a 10 play drive, trying to consume clock, before Leavitt would throw a touchdown to his third receiver of the day, a 31 yard strike to&nbsp;Jordyn Tyson.&nbsp; A seven play drive by Kansas on the very next drive would again result in a touchdown, another passing score between Daniels and Skinner, with Skinner making a diving grab in the endzone for a 34 yard touchdown.&nbsp;

Arizona State would take over following the touchdown with 2:04 remaining in the game, and would go eight plays using up just under two minutes, scoring with 16 seconds left in the game, Leavitt connecting again with Tyson on a three yard touchdown pass. Daniels would complete two passes to start the final drive, getting into Arizona State territory, but an incomplete pass with five seconds left would end the game.&nbsp;

Daniels was 18 of 31 passing for 260 yards and two touchdowns, rushing six times for 14 yards and a score.&nbsp; Neal was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp; Skinner had six catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns.&nbsp;

Kansas will have a bye this week.&nbsp; They'll be back in action on October 19th against Houston at Arrowhead Stadium.&nbsp; Kickoff time is yet to be determined by the conference.&nbsp;

Nebraska within one win of bowl eligibility after win over Rutgers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers needed just two touchdowns to score a victory over Rutgers, winning 14-7 to get within one win of bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016.

The Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) prevailed in the hottest conditions ever for an October game at Memorial Stadium.&nbsp;&nbsp;Temperature at kickoff was 97 degrees with a swirling and gusty wind and both teams struggled in the passing game.

&nbsp;Dante Dowdell and Janiran Bonner scored on 1-yard runs, and Nebraska leaned on its defense on a day Dylan Raiola struggled.&nbsp;Raiola, Nebraska's freshman quarterback, never was able to find a rhythm. He completed just 13 of 27 passes for 134 yards, all season lows.

The work of the defense surely was something former Nebraska great Ndamukong Suh could appreciate. Suh, a 2009 Heisman Trophy finalist and consensus All-American before he went on to a long NFL career, was on hand for his Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame induction.

Suh led the Huskers out of the tunnel before the game and then watched the Blackshirts sack&nbsp; Athan Kaliakmanis four times, limiting the nation's third-leading rusher, Kyle Monangai, to 78 yards on 19 carries and hold Rutgers to 264 total yards. Kaliakmanis was 15 of 37 for 136 yards, and he was intercepted twice. The Huskers also kept Rutgers out of the end zone six times on plays from inside the two.

Rutgers had great chances to score but couldn't until late. The Scarlet Knights' second blocked punt of the game set them up at the Nebraska 2, but the Huskers held them out of the end zone on three straight plays after Monangai appeared to score but was marked short of the goal line with no challenge from Schiano. He said he didn't want to use a timeout to challenge the mark because it was reviewed at the replay center in Chicago and he was told it would stand.

Nebraska will have a bye this week.&nbsp; They'll be back in action on October 19th against #23 Indiana.&nbsp; Kickoff time is yet to be determined by the conference.&nbsp;

 </figure>The #9 Missouri Tigers could not overcome the noisy environment of Kyle Field as the #25 Texas A&amp;M Aggies dominated their way to a 41-10 victory, making the Tigers one of five teams in the Top 11 to lose on Saturday.&nbsp;From the get go the game was all Aggies in the first half, leading 24-0 at the halftime break.&nbsp; Texas A&amp;M got two rushing touchdowns from Amari Daniels, both from one yard out, and also a one yard rushing touchdown from&nbsp;Le'Veon Moss.&nbsp; Kicker Randy Bond also hit a 44 yard field goal in the opening half.&nbsp;Out of the halftime break, Moss would score his second touchdown of the game, breaking off a 75 yard rushing score.&nbsp; Bond would knock through a 38 yard field goal en route to 34 unanswered points from the Aggies.&nbsp;<div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">LE&#39;VEON MOSS OFF TO THE RACES 🔥 A 75-YARD TD TO START THE HALF 👏 <a href="https://t.co/W6rWTwZgto">pic.twitter.com/W6rWTwZgto</a>&mdash; SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) <a href="https://twitter.com/SportsCenter/status/1842627945753452583?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 5, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div>The Tigers would finally get on the board late in the third quarter, with a quick drive that lasted just over a minute and went five plays, ending with a 35 yard passing touchdown from Brady Cook to Theo Wease Jr.&nbsp;Moss would score his third touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, an 18 yard jaunt to the endzone.&nbsp; The Tigers final score of the game came with just eight seconds left, a 23 yard field goal by Blake Craig.&nbsp;Cook was 13 of 31 through the air for 186 yards and one touchdown.&nbsp; Nate Noel rushed 10 times for 30 yards while Marcus Carroll rushed eight times for 26 yards.&nbsp; Luther Burden III had seven catches for 82 yards, Wease Jr has two catches for 72 yards and a score.&nbsp;The Missouri Tigers will stay on the road next week for their final non conference matchup against Massachusetts.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 11am, KFEQ will join pregame at 10pm.&nbsp; The game will be televised on ESPN2.&nbsp;Kansas takes fifth straight loss on last second Arizona State touchdown<figure>

 </figure>Jalon Daniels didn't turn the ball over for the first time this season, but an Arizona State touchdown with just 16 seconds remaining doomed the Kansas Jayhawks, falling 35-31 at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.&nbsp;The teams would trade blows all through the first half.&nbsp; Arizona State striking first with a 28 yard touchdown pass from&nbsp;Sam Leavitt to&nbsp;Xavier Guillory.&nbsp; The Jayhawks would answer with a long 10 play drive that used over five minutes of clock, ending with a 22 yard rushing score from quarterback Jalon Daniels.&nbsp;Kansas would take the lead early into the second quarter on another lengthy drive, this time Daniels scoring through the air and finding a wide open Quentin Skinner for a touchdown.&nbsp; The Sun Devils answered near the end of the first half Leavitt throwing a 26 yard touchdown pass to&nbsp;Chamon Metayer, leaving the game tied 14-14 at the halftime whistle.&nbsp;The lone score of the third quarter would give Kansas the lead, a 20 yard field goal from Tabor Allen, before the fourth quarter where again the teams would go back and forth with the lead.&nbsp;A 10 play drive by Arizona State that carried from the third quarter into the fourth quarter ended with a one yard touchdown run from&nbsp;Cam Skattebo at the start of the final frame.&nbsp; The Jayhawks would answer with a rushing score of their own, 31 yards by Devin Neal to take back the lead.&nbsp;But again the Sun Devils would use a 10 play drive, trying to consume clock, before Leavitt would throw a touchdown to his third receiver of the day, a 31 yard strike to&nbsp;Jordyn Tyson.&nbsp; A seven play drive by Kansas on the very next drive would again result in a touchdown, another passing score between Daniels and Skinner, with Skinner making a diving grab in the endzone for a 34 yard touchdown.&nbsp;<div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">JD ➡️ QSKIN KU 31, ASU 28 with 2:00 left to play ‼️ <a href="https://t.co/3Csha3pkNl">https://t.co/3Csha3pkNl</a> <a href="https://t.co/GpF8R401rx">pic.twitter.com/GpF8R401rx</a>&mdash; Kansas Football (@KU_Football) <a href="https://twitter.com/KU_Football/status/1842769611005030475?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 6, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Arizona State would take over following the touchdown with 2:04 remaining in the game, and would go eight plays using up just under two minutes, scoring with 16 seconds left in the game, Leavitt connecting again with Tyson on a three yard touchdown pass. Daniels would complete two passes to start the final drive, getting into Arizona State territory, but an incomplete pass with five seconds left would end the game.&nbsp;Daniels was 18 of 31 passing for 260 yards and two touchdowns, rushing six times for 14 yards and a score.&nbsp; Neal was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp; Skinner had six catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns.&nbsp;Kansas will have a bye this week.&nbsp; They'll be back in action on October 19th against Houston at Arrowhead Stadium.&nbsp; Kickoff time is yet to be determined by the conference.&nbsp;Nebraska within one win of bowl eligibility after win over Rutgers<figure>

 </figure>The Nebraska Cornhuskers needed just two touchdowns to score a victory over Rutgers, winning 14-7 to get within one win of bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016.The Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) prevailed in the hottest conditions ever for an October game at Memorial Stadium.&nbsp;&nbsp;Temperature at kickoff was 97 degrees with a swirling and gusty wind and both teams struggled in the passing game.&nbsp;Dante Dowdell and Janiran Bonner scored on 1-yard runs, and Nebraska leaned on its defense on a day Dylan Raiola struggled.&nbsp;Raiola, Nebraska's freshman quarterback, never was able to find a rhythm. He completed just 13 of 27 passes for 134 yards, all season lows.The work of the defense surely was something former Nebraska great Ndamukong Suh could appreciate. Suh, a 2009 Heisman Trophy finalist and consensus All-American before he went on to a long NFL career, was on hand for his Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame induction.Suh led the Huskers out of the tunnel before the game and then watched the Blackshirts sack&nbsp; Athan Kaliakmanis four times, limiting the nation's third-leading rusher, Kyle Monangai, to 78 yards on 19 carries and hold Rutgers to 264 total yards. Kaliakmanis was 15 of 37 for 136 yards, and he was intercepted twice. The Huskers also kept Rutgers out of the end zone six times on plays from inside the two.Rutgers had great chances to score but couldn't until late. The Scarlet Knights' second blocked punt of the game set them up at the Nebraska 2, but the Huskers held them out of the end zone on three straight plays after Monangai appeared to score but was marked short of the goal line with no challenge from Schiano. He said he didn't want to use a timeout to challenge the mark because it was reviewed at the replay center in Chicago and he was told it would stand.Nebraska will have a bye this week.&nbsp; They'll be back in action on October 19th against #23 Indiana.&nbsp; Kickoff time is yet to be determined by the conference.&nbsp;

CFB Roundup: NWMSU win streak to four, Ravens cruise, Tigers crushed

The Kansas City Royals issued eight walks and gave up the lead late in Game one of the ALDS, falling to the New York Yankees on Saturday 6-5 at Yankee Stadium.&nbsp;

The Royals would take an early lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Tommy Pham that scored Yuli Gurriel, but one inning later the Yankees would take the lead as Gleyber Torres slammed a two run to right field, driving in Alex Verdugo to take the 2-1 lead.&nbsp;

But Kansas City would strike back in the fourth, a two run home run of their own off the bat of MJ Melendez, bringing Gurriel home for another run.&nbsp; The lead though would flip back and forth, changing hands again in the fifth, this time thanks to some pitching issues by the Royals.&nbsp;

To start the inning, Kansas City starting pitcher Michael Wacha would walk Torres, before being replaced by reliever Angel Zerpa, but it would not get any better.&nbsp; Zerpa surrendered a single to Juan Soto and walked Aaron Judge to load the bases.&nbsp; Another walk to Austin Wells would tie the game at 3-3, and chase Zerpa from the game in favor of John Schreiber.&nbsp;

Schrieber would quickly get two outs, getting a popout from Giancarlo Stanton and a ground out from Jazz Chisolm, where Gurriel would throw out Soto at home.&nbsp; But following an injury delay, due to Schreiber falling to the ground on the second out, Antony Volpe would draw a walk to bring home Judge and give New York the lead.&nbsp;

Again in the sixth inning the tides would turn in favor of the Royals, Garrett Hampson pinch hitting for Kyle Isbel and singling to drive in Gurriel and Pham.&nbsp; The Yankees wouldn't go away, tying the game up in the bottom half of the inning, Wells singling to drive in Verdugo.&nbsp;

New York would go on to take the lead for good in the seventh inning, after a controversial call at second where Chisolm appeared to have been thrown out but after review was still ruled safe, eventually coming home on a single from Verdugo for the 6-5 lead.&nbsp;

The Royals though would strike out in three of their last seven at bats, handing the Yankees the win and former Royal Luke Weaver his first save of the postseason.&nbsp;

Michael Lorenzen would take the loss in relief, giving up three hits and one run while striking out three from the bullpen.&nbsp; Both Melendez (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs) and Michael Massey (2-for-5) led the way hitting in the loss.&nbsp;

The Royals and Yankees will be back in action on Monday in Game 2 of the ALDS.&nbsp; Cole Ragans will start against Carlos Rodon with first pitch at 6:38pm, pregame will air at 6pm on KFEQ.&nbsp;

KFEQ/St. Joseph Post area High School Football schedule Oct. 4th

The Royals will continue in the postseason after another narrow win over the Baltimore Orioles, advancing to the American League Championship Series with a 2-1 victory, sweeping the AL Wildcard.

Kansas City got off to an early lead in the first inning as Michael Massey led off with a double, eventually being driven in on a single by Vinnie Pasquantino. From there, the Royals would turn to starting pitcher Seth Lugo to hold Baltimore off the board.&nbsp;

And Lugo would do just that, until the fifth inning, but did run into a jam along the way.&nbsp; In the fourth inning, the Orioles would get singles from Anthony Santander and Adley Rutcschman.&nbsp; With two runners on and one out, former Royal Ryan O'Hearn would hit a screaming ground ball towards second base, where Massey would dive to keep the ball in the infield, throwing O'Hearn out at first.&nbsp; Ryan Mountcastle would fly out to end the inning.&nbsp;

Baltimore would tie the game up with the first batter of the fifth inning on a solo home run from Cedric Mullins.&nbsp; The Orioles would go on to load the bases on Lugo with a single by Ramon Urias, a walk to Gunnar Henderson, and Jordan Westburg reaching on a fielding error.&nbsp; Santander would pop out to Yuli Gurriel before manager Matt Quatraro would come out and pull Lugo from the game.&nbsp;

Angel Zerpa came from the bullpen and would strike out Colton Cowser and then get Rutschman to ground out to Bobby Witt Jr who would throw to Gurriel to escape the sixth inning.&nbsp;

After Hunter Renfroe struck out to begin the sixth inning, Kyle Isbel would hit a hard ball into the ground and rush to first base for a single.&nbsp; Garcia would strike out to follow, but then Massey would hit a bloop single into right center field, with Isbel running on contact he would make it to third base.&nbsp; One batter later Witt Jr would hit a ground ball to a diving Westburg, who wouldn't get the ball to first in time, allowing Isbel to cross home and give the Royals the lead.&nbsp;

Over the last four innings, John Schreiber, Sam Long, and Lucas Erceg would combine to give up just one hit, Long allowing one walk, and striking out two batters, as Erceg earned his second save in a row.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Massey (2-for-4), Witt Jr. (2-for-5), and Pasquantino (2-for-4) were the leading hitters in the win.&nbsp; Zerpa pitched one inning and struck out two for his first postseason victory.

Kansas City will now head to New York on Saturday to begin the American League Division Series against the Yankees.&nbsp; With Michael Wacha not having to pitch, he would be the probable pitcher to open the series, while the Yankees have announced Gerrit Cole as their starter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

First pitch on Saturday will be at 5:38pm.&nbsp; The game will be aired on KFEQ and televised on TBS.

Royals heading to the ALDS after sweeping Orioles with a 2-1 victory

In what became a pitchers duel between Royals starter Cole Ragans and Orioles starter Corbin Burnes, it was Kansas City that came out on top 1-0, taking a 1-0 series lead in the AL Wildcard Series.&nbsp;

It was a brilliant postseason debut for Ragans, who even escaped a jam in the fifth inning with runners on the corners, striking out catcher James McCann and shortstop Gunnar Henderson to get out of the inning.&nbsp; Ragans pitched six innings and gave up four hits, striking out eight.

Ragans would also earn the win for his efforts, thanks to Bobby Witt Jr. After Maikel Garcia walked, stole second base, and later advanced to third on a Michael Massey groundout, Witt Jr would single into center field to score Garcia for the lone run of the game.&nbsp;

Ragans did seem displeased to be pulled from the game to start the seventh inning, but Sam Long, Kris Bubic, and Lucas Erceg would combine to give up one hit, walk two, striking out two as well to end the game, Erceg earning his first save of the postseason.&nbsp;

Kansas City and Baltimore each had five hits, with five separate Royals players getting one hit each.&nbsp; The leading Orioles hitter was Cedric Mullens who was 2 for 3 with a double.&nbsp;

Game two of the series will be on Wednesday, all games in the best of three series happening in Baltimore, with Seth Lugo taking the mound for the Royals and Zach Eflin starting for the Orioles&nbsp; First pitch will be at 3:38pm, with pregame at 3 on KFEQ.&nbsp; The game will be televised on ESPN.

Royals beat Orioles 1-0 in first postseason game since 2015, one game away from ALDS

Northwest tops Emporia State thanks to fourth quarter touchdown

A defensive battle at Bearcat Stadium in Maryville resulted in a Northwest Missouri State victory over Emporia State thanks to a fourth quarter touchdown, winning 14-9.

After a scoreless first quarter, both the Bearcats and the Hornets would trade blows to start the second, first with Emporia State scoring on an 11 yard touchdown pass from Gunnar Gundy to Tyler Kahmann, and then on the very next drive Northwest answered with a 10 play drive resulting in a four yard rushing score from Henry Martin.&nbsp;

Emporia State would take the lead into the halftime break however.&nbsp; After a turnover on downs by the Hornets pinned the Bearcats at their own one yard line, Emporia State linebacker Cade Stephenson would tackle Tank Young in the endzone for a safety, leaving the Hornets up at halftime 9-7.

Again neither team would score in the third quarter out of the break, Northwest kicker Cole Lammel missing a 55 yard field goal to end the quarter.&nbsp; But after an Emporia State three and out to start the final quarter, Northwest would take the lead back, putting together an eight play drive that ended with a 29 yard touchdown pass from Chris Ruhnke to Luke Mathews.&nbsp;

From there the Northwest defense would stand tall and forcing two turnover on downs over the final drives of the game, until Ruhnke would kneel out the final seconds to end the game.&nbsp;

Ruhnke was 20 of 36 through the air for 244 yards and one touchdown while throwing four interceptions. Young was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 62 yards while Mathews caught four passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp;

Northwest will travel for their next two games, first matching up with Washburn on Saturday in Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 3pm

Rough third quarter dooms Griffons in loss against Washburn

The Missouri Western Griffons led at halftime, but 24 unanswered points and just 24 total yards in the third quarter were to much to overcome as Washburn walked away from St. Joseph with a 24-16 victory.&nbsp;

The Ichabods would take the first lead of the game midway through the first quarter with Keller Hurla rushing 22 yards for a touchdown to cap an eight play drive.

From there it would be a defensive battle until near the end of the first half when the Griffons would score 10 points in the final three minutes, first getting a 52 yard field goal from Cody Watson, before Marrell Fountain would rush for a 39 yard touchdown, his first at Missouri Western, giving the Griffons a 10-7 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;

After that is when the Ichabods would go on their scoring run though, getting a one yard touchdown run from Lucas Oitker and a 42 yard field goal by Trenton Brehm in the third quarter, then an eight yard rushing touchdown by Cam Robinson early in the fourth to push the Washburn lead to 24-10.&nbsp;

Missouri Western's defense would get some key stops late in the fourth quarter as TreVon Johnson recovered a fumble and Brandon Johnson blocked a field goal, but all the Griffons could get was two field goals from Watson, one of 42 yards and another from 30 yards.&nbsp;

Kody Kirk made his first start with the Griffons, after making his debut last week, and was 27 of 58 passing for 266 yards and one interception. Fountain led the way rushing, running 10 times for 69 yards.&nbsp; Jonas Bennett had 11 catches for 147 yards.&nbsp;

The Griffons will be back on the road for their next two games, first traveling to Pittsburg, Kansas for a matchup with Pittsburgh State on Saturday.&nbsp; Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm

Benedictine holds off Baker in epic Heart South conference showdown

The #13 Benedictine Ravens picked up an important win in the Heart South Division, defeating #16 Baker University 27-24 on Saturday at Larry Wilcox Memorial Stadium in Atchison.

The Ravens would take a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter, on the first offensive drive of the game going eight plays before quarterback Jackson Dooley connected with&nbsp;Joseph Lagafuaina on a seven yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Later in the quarter, Harry Balke would drill a 47 yard field goal to extend the lead.&nbsp;

The Wildcats would score back to back touchdowns though in the second quarter to take the lead, quarterback Truman Juelsgaard rushing for a three yard score and then connecting with Gaige Warren for a 34 yard touchdown pass to take the 14-10 lead.&nbsp;

But the Ravens had an answer, Dooley would connect with Jacob Gathright on a 37 yard touchdown pass, before the defense would add some points of their own&nbsp; Isaiah Hasten returning an interception 61 yards to the house, giving Benedictine a 24-14 lead at the halftime intermission.&nbsp;

Both teams defenses held strong for a scoreless third quarter, but Baker would get on the board again early in the fourth quarter on a 22 yard field goal from Seth Simpson.&nbsp; One long drive later, going 54 yards on 14 plays and consuming over seven minutes of clock, Balke would knock through a 45 yard field goal to put the Ravens up by two scores.

The Wildcats would score another touchdown with 1:59 left in the game, a two yard rushing score from Warren, to get within three points.&nbsp; And after forcing the Ravens to punt, Baker would get the ball back at their own 20 yard line with 57 seconds left in the game.&nbsp;

The Ravens defense came up big time and again Saturday, but never more importantly than the final drive of the game.&nbsp; The Wildcats entered the contest averaging 52 points per game, but as they had all game, the Ravens defense shut down Baker and forced a turnover on downs to close out the win.

Dooley was 14 of 27 passing for 234 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.&nbsp; Dalton Witherspoon was the leading rusher running 25 times for 109 yards, while Gathright had four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp;

Benedictine will travel to Canton, Missouri next for a matchup with Culver Stockton at&nbsp;Ellison Poulton Stadium.&nbsp; Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

Kansas State bounces back with dominant win over Oklahoma State

The #23 Kansas State Wildcats bounced back from a poor offensive showing against BYU and dominated on way to an upset win over #20 Oklahoma State 42-20 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan.&nbsp;

Quarterback Avery Johnson started the scoring for the Wildcats with his legs in the first quarter, capping off a 14 play drive with an 11 yard rushing touchdown. Midway through the quarter the Cowboys would get on the board, Logan Ward knocking through a 35 yard field goal.&nbsp;

Oklahoma State would take the lead early on in the second quarter on a big passing play, a 77 yard touchdown pass from Alan Bowman to&nbsp;De'Zhaun Stribling.&nbsp; One drive later, after Korie Black picked off Johnson, the Cowboys would extend their lead on a 31 yard field goal from Ward.&nbsp;

Trailing halfway through the second quarter, Johnson would throw a pair of touchdowns on back to back drives.&nbsp; A touchdown pass of 19 yards to Garrett Oakley would give the Wildcats the lead back, and after a fumble recovery by&nbsp;Colby McCalister Johnson would need just four plays, connecting with Jayce Brown on a long 55 yard touchdown to give Kansas State a 21-13 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;

The Wildcats wouldn't wait long to score in the second half, following a three and out from the Cowboys it would take just two plays to score, a 66 yard touchdown run from DJ Giddens extending the lead again for Kansas State.&nbsp; Johnson would throw another touchdown pass near the end of the third quarter, a two yard score to&nbsp;Will Anciaux.&nbsp;

Johnson would add another rushing touchdown early on in the fourth quarter, this time from 13 yards out, for the final score of the game for the Wildcats.&nbsp; A 14 yard rushing touchdown from&nbsp;Trent Howland would be the final Oklahoma State score near the end of the game.&nbsp;

Johnson was 19 of 31 through the air for 259 yards and three touchdowns as well as one interception.&nbsp; Giddens was the leading rusher with 15 carries for 187 yards and a score while Brown caught four passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp;

Kansas State (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) will now have a bye week before they matchup with the Colorado Buffaloes on October 12th at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado.&nbsp; A kickoff time has yet to be scheduled by the conference.

Nebraska tops Purdue thanks to massive fourth quarter

After a scoreless first half, the Nebraska Cornhuskers put together a big second half and bounced back from an overtime loss to Illinos, defeating Purdue 28-10 at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana.&nbsp;

After four combined missed field goals would send both teams to the locker room at the halftime break tied at zero, Purdue would get on the board first in the second half after a 13 play drive,&nbsp;Spencer Porath hitting a 45 yard field goal.&nbsp;

After a nine play drive though, the Cornhuskers would take the lead back for good, a six yard touchdown pass from Dylan Raiola to&nbsp;Jahmal Banks near the end of the third quarter.&nbsp;

 </figure>The Missouri Western Griffons led at halftime, but 24 unanswered points and just 24 total yards in the third quarter were to much to overcome as Washburn walked away from St. Joseph with a 24-16 victory.&nbsp;The Ichabods would take the first lead of the game midway through the first quarter with Keller Hurla rushing 22 yards for a touchdown to cap an eight play drive.From there it would be a defensive battle until near the end of the first half when the Griffons would score 10 points in the final three minutes, first getting a 52 yard field goal from Cody Watson, before Marrell Fountain would rush for a 39 yard touchdown, his first at Missouri Western, giving the Griffons a 10-7 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;After that is when the Ichabods would go on their scoring run though, getting a one yard touchdown run from Lucas Oitker and a 42 yard field goal by Trenton Brehm in the third quarter, then an eight yard rushing touchdown by Cam Robinson early in the fourth to push the Washburn lead to 24-10.&nbsp;Missouri Western's defense would get some key stops late in the fourth quarter as TreVon Johnson recovered a fumble and Brandon Johnson blocked a field goal, but all the Griffons could get was two field goals from Watson, one of 42 yards and another from 30 yards.&nbsp;Kody Kirk made his first start with the Griffons, after making his debut last week, and was 27 of 58 passing for 266 yards and one interception. Fountain led the way rushing, running 10 times for 69 yards.&nbsp; Jonas Bennett had 11 catches for 147 yards.&nbsp;The Griffons will be back on the road for their next two games, first traveling to Pittsburg, Kansas for a matchup with Pittsburgh State on Saturday.&nbsp; Kickoff is scheduled for 2pmBenedictine holds off Baker in epic Heart South conference showdown<figure>

 </figure>The #13 Benedictine Ravens picked up an important win in the Heart South Division, defeating #16 Baker University 27-24 on Saturday at Larry Wilcox Memorial Stadium in Atchison.The Ravens would take a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter, on the first offensive drive of the game going eight plays before quarterback Jackson Dooley connected with&nbsp;Joseph Lagafuaina on a seven yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Later in the quarter, Harry Balke would drill a 47 yard field goal to extend the lead.&nbsp;The Wildcats would score back to back touchdowns though in the second quarter to take the lead, quarterback Truman Juelsgaard rushing for a three yard score and then connecting with Gaige Warren for a 34 yard touchdown pass to take the 14-10 lead.&nbsp;But the Ravens had an answer, Dooley would connect with Jacob Gathright on a 37 yard touchdown pass, before the defense would add some points of their own&nbsp; Isaiah Hasten returning an interception 61 yards to the house, giving Benedictine a 24-14 lead at the halftime intermission.&nbsp;Both teams defenses held strong for a scoreless third quarter, but Baker would get on the board again early in the fourth quarter on a 22 yard field goal from Seth Simpson.&nbsp; One long drive later, going 54 yards on 14 plays and consuming over seven minutes of clock, Balke would knock through a 45 yard field goal to put the Ravens up by two scores.The Wildcats would score another touchdown with 1:59 left in the game, a two yard rushing score from Warren, to get within three points.&nbsp; And after forcing the Ravens to punt, Baker would get the ball back at their own 20 yard line with 57 seconds left in the game.&nbsp;The Ravens defense came up big time and again Saturday, but never more importantly than the final drive of the game.&nbsp; The Wildcats entered the contest averaging 52 points per game, but as they had all game, the Ravens defense shut down Baker and forced a turnover on downs to close out the win.Dooley was 14 of 27 passing for 234 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.&nbsp; Dalton Witherspoon was the leading rusher running 25 times for 109 yards, while Gathright had four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp;Benedictine will travel to Canton, Missouri next for a matchup with Culver Stockton at&nbsp;Ellison Poulton Stadium.&nbsp; Kickoff is scheduled for noon.Kansas State bounces back with dominant win over Oklahoma State<figure>

 </figure>The #23 Kansas State Wildcats bounced back from a poor offensive showing against BYU and dominated on way to an upset win over #20 Oklahoma State 42-20 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan.&nbsp;Quarterback Avery Johnson started the scoring for the Wildcats with his legs in the first quarter, capping off a 14 play drive with an 11 yard rushing touchdown.  </figure>In the first game at Arrowhead Stadium since 2011, the Kansas Jayhawks fell to the TCU Horned Frogs 38-27, continuing what has been a lackluster season after beginning with high hopes.&nbsp;The Jayhawks and Horned Frogs did trade blows through the first half of the game, scoring on four consecutive drives to start.&nbsp; Kansas opened the scoring following a TCU fumble, an 11 yard passing touchdown from Jalon Daniels to Luke Grimm, where Grimm caught the ball while on his tiptoes at the sideline.&nbsp; The Horned Frogs would answer with a 35 yard passing touchdown between Josh Hoover and Jack Bech.<div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">WHAT A CATCH LUKE GRIMM 🤯 <a href="https://t.co/6J7Mfitzhf">pic.twitter.com/6J7Mfitzhf</a>&mdash; Kansas Football (@KU_Football) <a href="https://twitter.com/KU_Football/status/1840116201462104575?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 28, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Kansas would have an answer of their own on the ensuing drive putting together a 10 play drive that went over four minutes, driving 69 yards for Devin Neal to find the endzone on a two yard rushing touchdown.&nbsp; But again the Horned Frogs would not go away, a long drive of their own carrying into the second quarter, culminating in a three yard rushing score from Cam Cook.Both teams would go on to trade punts, until an interception by Kansas safety O.J Burroughs would set up a drive for the Jayhawks to take the lead, a 24 yard field goal from Tabor Allen, but the Horned Frogs would put together an 11 play drive ending with another touchdown pass between Hoover and Bech, that would give TCU a 21-17 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;Kansas would take the lead back in the third quarter on an eight yard rushing touchdown from Daniel Hishaw Jr.&nbsp; The Horned Frogs answered yet again, and took the lead for good this time on special teams, JP Richardson returning a punt 89 yards for a touchdown.The Jayhawks would get within one point early into the fourth quarter, a 41 yard field goal from Allen, but on the very next drive TCU would need just two plays getting a 59 yard touchdown pass from Hoover to Eric McAlister.Kansas would have a three and out on the next drive, and TCU would drive plays to get a 29 yard field goal from&nbsp;Kyle Lemmermann, from there the Jayhawks offense would stall.&nbsp; A turnover on downs would give the Horned Frogs the ball back, and after the Kansas forced a punt, on their final drive of the game Daniels would throw an interception, allowing TCU to kneel out the clock.&nbsp;Another down game from Daniels has some asking if the Jayhawks should move to backup quarterback Cole Ballard, who played in two games last year for Kansas and appeared against Lindenwood to start this year.&nbsp; Through five games Daniels has thrown for 626 yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.Daniels in the loss was 15 of 34 passing for 179 yards with one touchdown and one interception.&nbsp; Hishaw Jr rushed 13 times for 85 yards while Neal rushed 14 times for 70 yards, both scoring touchdowns.&nbsp; Grimm had six catches for 85 yards and a score.&nbsp;Kansas will hit the road next week to Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona for a matchup with Arizona State.&nbsp; Kickoff will be at 7pm on ESPN2.&nbsp;
