BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  – Jordan Roundtree of the Mizzou Women's Basketball team and Connor Flynn from the Mizzou Wrestling program have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of Missouri, the Southeastern Conference announced on Monday. One male and one female from each of the SEC's 14 institutions were nominated for the scholarship, and the overall recipients of the award will be announced in late May.

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes. Each year, the SEC provides the league's male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.

Missouri Western Charity Golf Classic rescheduled for August

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Football League announced on Thursday the regular season schedule for the 2020 season. The Chiefs will be featured in five primetime contests, including two nationally televised games at Arrowhead Stadium.

“The releasing of the 2020 NFL schedule reinforces each year that we have the opportunity to compete against some of the great teams in this league,” Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said. “I know our organization and fans get excited for these challenges. We look forward to raising last year’s Super Bowl championship banner and all that comes with defending our title in the 2020 season.”

Kansas City will kick off its quest to defend its Super Bowl title on the NFL’s opening night against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10. The contest will be a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional playoff game where the Chiefs overcame a 24-0 deficit to defeat the Texans 51-31. Additionally, in celebration of the club’s victory in Super Bowl LIV, the team will raise its championship banner in front of Chiefs Kingdom.

In Week 2, the Chiefs will kick off divisional play in search of a fifth-straight AFC West title, traveling to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in their new stadium on Sept. 20. Kansas City is 22-2 against the AFC West over the last four seasons and is currently on a seven-game win streak against the division. In Reid’s seven seasons with the Chiefs, the club is 32-10 against the AFC West (12-2 vs. LVR, 11-3 vs. LAC, 9-5 vs. DEN).

KC’s second primetime contest is in Week 3 when the club travels to Baltimore to face the Ravens on ESPN’s Monday Night Football on Sept. 28. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The NCAA struck back at the University of Kansas and its men's basketball program Thursday, calling five Level I violations that are alleged to have occurred “egregious” and arguing that they undermine and threaten" college athletics.

In the latest in a series of back-and-forth filings, the NCAA reiterated in a 92-page response its claim that Adidas representatives were acting as boosters when two of them — T.J. Gassnolo and Jim Gatto — helped to arrange payments to prospective recruits. Those transactions became a central point in a wide-ranging FBI probe into college basketball that has ensnared Kansas, Louisville and several other high-profile programs.

“The institution secured significant recruiting and competitive advantages by committing alleged Level I men's basketball violations,” the NCAA said. “The institution, in taking its defiant posture in this case, is indifferent to how alleged violations may have adversely impacted other NCAA institutions who acted in compliance with NCAA legislation.”

Officials from Kansas have said they agree with the NCAA that Gassnola made payments to family members and handlers of two players, Billy Preston and Silvio De Sousa. But coach Bill Self and assistant Kurtis Townsend said they were unaware of the transactions, backing up a statement Gassnola made during sworn testimony.

But the NCAA countered with video and text documents that tie Self, Townsend and another assistant coach, Jerrance Howard, to Gassnola within the past five years. The governing body also pointed out that Adidas paid about $250,000 for an induction party for Self when he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

This evidence, the NCAA argues, is “overwhelming factual information that demonstrates Adidas, Gassnola and Gatto promoted the institutions interests and, therefore, are boosters.”

“The NCAA enforcement staff’s reply does not in any way change the University of Kansas’ position that the allegations brought against our men’s basketball program are simply baseless and littered with false representations,” the school said. in a statement Thursday. “As the federal trial proved, Adidas employees intentionally concealed impermissible payments from the university and its coaching staff. The university has never denied these impermissible payments were made.

“For the NCAA enforcement staff to allege that the university should be held responsible for these payments is a distortion of the facts and a gross misapplication of NCAA bylaws and case precedent.”

The initial notice of allegations was filed in September, and Kansas officials had 90 days to respond, a deadline that was extended to February. The NCAA enforcement staff then had 60 days to file the reply that came out this week.

In the response, the NCAA laid out its belief that a hearing before the NCAA Committee on Infractions — which has yet to be scheduled — could ultimately decide some of the sticking points in the case. The university would have the opportunity to argue its case before the committee. If the committee ruled on behalf of the NCAA, officials from Kansas would have an opportunity to appeal potentially crippling penalties.

“The university absolutely would accept responsibility if it believe that violations had occurred,” the school said, “as we have demonstrated with other self-reported infractions. Chancellor (Douglas) Girod, (athletic director) Jeff Long and KU stand firmly behind Coach Self, his staff and our men's basketball program, as well as our robust compliance program."

junior college transfer Ed Chang, head coach Cuonzo Martin announced Thursday.
Chang is a 6-foot-8 versatile forward from Papillion, Nebraska, with the
ability to stretch the floor.

Chang
spent the 2019-20 campaign at Salt Lake Community College, where he helped lead
a deep squad to a 29-4 record, a perfect Scenic West Conference mark, a Scenic
West Conference title and a No. 4 overall seed in the NJCAA National Tournament
that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Chang is one of seven SLCC
teammates to land at Division I programs this spring.

"Ed
can stretch the floor with his shooting,” Martin said. “He has great size and
length, and the ability to play multiple positions. He is a skilled
shot-blocker for his size. He’ll be a great fit to our program on both ends of
the floor when he gets to campus.”

Chang shot 41.4
percent from 3-point range and 42.8 percent from the floor at Salt Lake,
averaging 8.2 points and 3.6 rebounds on an experienced, talented roster. The
forward reached double figures 10 times, including a 23-point outburst against
Colorado Northwest, in which he drained six 3-pointers on 12 attempts.

"I
chose Mizzou because of the basketball culture Coach Martin has created there,”
Chang said. “Coach Martin genuinely cares about making us all better players
and people, and I wanted to come be a part of that.”

Chang, who did not
play basketball as a senior at Seattle’s Garland High School, was the No. 1
player in the state of Nebraska as a high school junior before relocating to
the Evergreen state. He was tabbed a four-star recruit by ESPN after earning
back-to-back All-Nebraska selections. Chang averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds,
4.0 blocks and 1.2 steals as a junior at Papillion-La Vista. During his junior
season, he reached the 1,000-point mark for his career and a Class A runner-up
state finish. He averaged 15.9 points and 9.5 rebounds as a sophomore en route
to Omaha World-Herald All-Metro honors and became the first sophomore to land
on the all-state team in some five seasons.

signed with San Diego State out of high school and appeared in 13 games for the
Aztecs during the 2018-19 season. He shot 37.5 percent from deep as a freshman.

years of eligibility remaining at Mizzou.

Mizzou men's basketball signs junior college transfer Ed Chang

The competitive playing surface for the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat soccer team is getting a new look and feel with the installation of AstroTurf for the 2020 season.

Mid-America Sports Construction of Lee's Summit, Missouri, is handling the installation of the AstroTurf product after completing a state-approved bid process.

The new surface will give Northwest a field that meets the NCAA minimum size requirement and allows it to fix significant elevation issues in the northwest corner of the field.

Northwest has played on a natural grass surface at Bearcat Pitch since the inception of the women's soccer program in 1999. The previous grass surface had unsuitable subsoils that created unplayable conditions with minimal amounts of rainfall, which forced Northwest to move home games the past few seasons. It also led to continual adjustments to practice and conditioning sessions for the Bearcat soccer program.

The new surface will provide many efficiencies for Bearcat soccer. It provides additional green space for student recreation, club sports, intramurals and other outdoor intercollegiate programs. It will allow opportunities for partnerships with Maryville R-II School District and the city of Maryville.

Revenue generation will also be more readily available as the new pitch can serve as a rental to other intercollegiate institutions, hosting other games and tournaments and camp or clinic opportunities that were not viable options in the past because of usage and weather threats.

Bearcat third-year head coach Marc Gordon said the artificial surface will provide a variety of assets for the women's soccer program.

"The addition of a new turf pitch will enhance our Bearcat soccer program in several ways," Gordon said. "Mostly, the team will have the ability to utilize the surface following heavy rains. This commitment will help in the recruitment of future Bearcat soccer players. The new surface will also provide the required field dimensions to host NCAA tournament matches."

Northwest Director of Athletics Andy Peterson said the project demonstrates the importance of the soccer program to the University and surrounding communities.

"This is obviously a big improvement for our soccer program," Peterson said. "This is also a win for our department and University. Soccer is a growing sport across the nation and especially in our region, and we hope that this pitch can drive involvement, engagement and performance from a variety of stakeholders. The University-wide impact of having this artificial turf surface for our spring sports, intramurals, club sports and general recreation will be significant."

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced it has partnered with the U.S.Council For Athletes Health (USCAH) to provide the conference office with athletic healthcare education, compliance resources, and campus health and safety programs and tools for its member institutions. The Association becomes the first NCAA Division II organization to enter into a strategic partnership with USCAH.

During the next few months, the MIAA will have the opportunity, through a series of education, programming, and compliance activities to earn "USCAH Preferred Status", a designation that certifies the Association's commitment to ongoing evaluation and education for health and well-being.

St. Joseph Sports Inc. held its annual banquet virtually on Wednesday to honor outstanding male and female scholar-athletes in the city.

Bishop LeBlond's Juliann Smith is the female winner this season and Central's Cole Hopkins won the male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Smith and Hopkins were chosen by the St. Joseph Sports Inc. Board of Directors as there was one male and one female nominee from each of the five St. Joseph High Schools.  Each winner receives a $1,000 scholarship.

The other nominees each receive a $500 scholarship, and those nominees include Benton's Jadynn Peters and Hunter Armstrong, Bishop LeBlond's Kanon Sumpter, Central's Kacey Duvall, Lafayette's Tarrin Deayon and Ethan Lowe, and St. Joseph Christian's Jacqueline Carlson and Brent Boyd.

Criteria for being a nominee includes the demonstration of academic excellence with a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, outstanding athletic performance, dedication to good citizenship and active involvement in extracurricular activities.

Verduzco and the Griffons were 8-15 when their season was canceled but they had won four of their last five and they had just swept Rogers State to even their MIAA record at 3-3.  Verduzco had a seven game hit streak when the season was cut short as he finished with a .239 average and three RBI.

The Big 12 has become the first Power Five conference to say it will hold its football media days virtually.

Big 12 coaches and athletic directors made the decision Wednesday during a virtual spring meeting that replaced their annual gathering in Scottsdale, Arizona.

About 500 media members are usually credentialed to attend Big 12 media days, which were scheduled to be held July 21-22 at AT&amp;T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and the site of the league’s championship game.

The online media days will likely be held those same dates, though that was tentative.

Big 12 football media days going virtual due to coronavirus

Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Cam Erving has signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

Terms were not announced but it will be a one-year deal.

Erving spent the last three years with the Chiefs after they traded with the Browns for the former first round draft pick out of Florida State.  He played in 13 games and made four starts during the 2017 season and Kansas City signed him to an extension.

Over the last two years, Erving played in 27 games and made 21 starts but the Chiefs did not pick up the 2020 option on his contract and that made him a free agent.

new youth program, Truman's Tales presented by Great Southern Bank, which is
designed to encourage reading and education throughout the state of Missouri.

"We believe Truman's Tales
will encourage children to discover the joy of reading for pleasure with their
parents over the summer, while exploring new books and authors, " said
Mizzou Director of Athletics&nbsp;Jim Sterk. "Truman's Tales will also allow
children to establish a goal and then be rewarded for hitting that achievement
with the opportunity to cheer on the Tigers at several games during the
upcoming season."

The program challenges all
youth in sixth grade and lower to read four books over the course of the spring
and summer. Readers that complete the program will receive two (2)
complimentary ticket vouchers to each of MU's ticketed sports throughout the
2020-2021 Mizzou Athletics year, including the Tigers' Sept. 5 football season
opener against Central Arkansas. Remaining events will be determined upon
schedule releases. Junior Tigers who are unable to travel to Columbia for the
selected home contests can request a special Mizzou item in lieu of game

A revised league schedule will be released on June 1, 2020, dependent on the current climate and health standards.  The MINK League has closely followed the Federal, State, and local authorities restrictions, strategies, and policies in relation to COVID-19 and will continue to do so. 

The Chillicothe Mudcats and Jefferson City Renegades have elected to not play in 2020 as a result of COVID-19. "They are a valued member of the league and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2021," noted MINK League Commissioner Ron Rodriguez.

MINK League postpones start of season until July 1

LAWRENCE, Kan.–&nbsp;The Kansas Athletics Department&nbsp; announced Tuesday that it is lowering prices on many season tickets for the first time since after the 2008-09. Feedback from fans as well as market research has shown that the price and seat location value from the past few seasons have not been aligned.

For the 2020-21 season, Allen Fieldhouse will expand from three to eight pricing tiers, including four tiers that are lower than any season ticket price from last season. This new structure will lower the cost of season tickets for almost 45 percent of Allen Fieldhouse season ticket holders from last year. Additionally, as a proactive measure for Kansas Jayhawk basketball fans that are and will continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new season ticket price of only $500 has been introduced for the upcoming season.

“Our priority is to keep Allen Fieldhouse as the best homecourt advantage and we cannot do that without our fans,” said Director of Athletics Jeff Long. “We have heard the concerns of some fans that our prices have increased to a level some struggle to meet, and given the economic conditions created by COVID-19, we felt it was a good time to reduce some prices and create more options for our loyal fans. Simply put, we know many of our fans will be struggling when we emerge from this pandemic and we needed to create a more affordable experience or we could risk losing the incredible home court advantage that has made Allen Fieldhouse the best college basketball venue for decades.”

Allen Fieldhouse has long been one of the highest demanded places to watch a basketball game, which is evident by selling out 306 consecutive games dating back to the 2001-02 season. Kansas Basketball is something that draws generations together for one common purpose, cheering the Jayhawks onto victory, and that bond has never been needed more than now.

“Our fans are the best in the country and we have been fortunate to see Allen Fieldhouse sold-out for every game during our 17-seasons here,” said Head Coach Bill Self. “It is unfortunate to see how this pandemic has hit so many, so hard, but hopefully the addition of tiers and lower ticket prices will allow our fans to enjoy Kansas basketball together again soon. Kansas lowering men's basketball season ticket prices for 2020-2021

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –&nbsp;With the NFL announcing that the Kansas City Chiefs 2020 schedule will be released on Thursday evening, single-game and group tickets for all home games will go on sale Friday, May 8.

Season Ticket Members will have an online presale beginning Friday at 11 a.m. The club will notify Season Ticket Members via email with instructions on how to participate.

In continuation of the team’s long-standing policy, the taxpayers of Jackson County, Missouri, will have a presale opportunity to purchase single-game tickets for the 2020 season from 8 – 10 a.m. on Friday. For the first time, the Jackson County taxpayer presale will take place online only, and purchasers must use a credit card with a billing zip code within Jackson County to participate. The Arrowhead Stadium Ticket Office will not be open for any walk-up sales.

Tickets may be purchased at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.chiefs.com/" target="_blank">www.chiefs.com</a>&nbsp;by the public beginning at noon Friday. All single-game and group tickets for Chiefs home games are subject to availability and dynamic pricing. Ticket delivery will be mobile entry only.

Chiefs single-game and group tickets go on sale Friday

Agent Bryan Ehrlich confirmed the deal Sunday. Patterson started all 26 games for the Wolverines over the past two seasons after transferring from Mississippi.

Patterson threw for 3,061 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season. He threw 45 touchdown passes in his two years at Michigan. Patterson passed for 131 yards in the Senior Bowl.

Kansas City signs former Michigan QB Shea Patterson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas and Missouri are resuming their bitter Border War in football after the former Big 12 rivals agreed to a four-game series in which each school will play two home games beginning in September 2025.

The fourth-longest rivalry in college football dates to 1891, but it has been on hiatus since Missouri departed for the Southeastern Conference. The schools recently announced a six-game series in men’s basketball beginning with the upcoming season that includes two games on each campus and two in Kansas City, Missouri.

The second football game between the Jayhawks and Tigers will take place in 2026 in Lawrence. The third will happen in Columbia in 2031 before the series concludes the following season in Lawrence.

(AP) — Kansas and Missouri are resuming their bitter Border War in football after the former Big 12 rivals agreed to a four-game series in which each school will play two home games beginning in September 2025.The fourth-longest rivalry in college football dates to 1891, but it has been on hiatus since Missouri departed for the Southeastern Conference. The schools recently announced a six-game series in men’s basketball beginning with the upcoming season that includes two games on each campus and two in Kansas City, Missouri.The second football game between the Jayhawks and Tigers will take place in 2026 in Lawrence. The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a contract with defensive end Taco Charlton, adding a former first-round pick who flamed out in Dallas and Miami but whose athleticism is a perfect match for coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense.

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a contract with defensive end Taco Charlton, adding a former first-round pick who flamed out in Dallas and Miami but whose athleticism is a perfect match for coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense.The 25-year-old Charlton was the 28th overall selection in the 2017 draft. He made seven starts for the Cowboys before sustaining a shoulder injury, and he was waived just two weeks into last season. The Dolphins signed Charlton and he made five starts and appeared in 10 games, but he was a healthy scratch the last four games of the regular season.The Dolphins waived him Thursday and the Chiefs were able to sign him when he cleared waivers Friday.Charlton will compete for playing time within a rotation that includes starting defensive ends Frank Clark and Alex Okafor, backups Tanoh Kpassagnon and Breeland Speaks, and fifth-round draft pick Mike Danna.--- Associated Press ---
