Harold Doyle Moore 86, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at his home. 

He was born April 23, 1933 in Trenton, Missouri son of the late Beulah and Luther Moore. He graduated from Trenton-Class of 1951 and married Merle "Lynn" Endicott in Bethany, MO on June 12, 1965. He served in the Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Quaker Oats after many years of service. He enjoyed going to auctions, tinkering in his garage, but most especially spending time with his kids and grand kids. 

Harold was preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors include, wife, Merle "Lynn" Moore of the home, daughters, Melissa Kennedy, and Debbie Moore, sons, Jeff and James Moore of Saint Joseph, MO, sister, Patricia (L.D.) Daniels, grandchildren: Jason Kennedy, Megan Stickley, Johnathon Kennedy, James Moore Jr., and Chriscenda Mozingo, and 10, great grandchildren.

Jack DeVault, 66, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 while vacationing in Cozumel, Mexico. He was born April 21, 1953 in Richmond, CA, son of the late Elsie and Fay DeVault. He was a Truck Driver for ABF, retiring in 2018. Jack was a member of Teamsters Local 41 in Kansas City. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding classic cars, riding his harley and traveling. Jack was preceded in death by father, Fay DeVault, mother, Elsbeth "Elsie" DeVault. Survivors include, daughter, Jennifer (Jonathan) Bauman, son, Jason DeVault and fiancée Savannah Blackmon, and daughter, Misty (Brian) Amos, all of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Gavin, Elsbeth, Scarlett and Hazel Bauman, Jacie, Patience, and Devin Amos, brother, Gary DeVault, sisters, Carla Bradshaw and Judy Schubert, his cousin who he was very close to, Tom (Sherye) Gibson of La Porte, TX.

Jack Dale DeVault  1953 - 2020

Kenneth Edward Dubach died February 25th, 2020 at the conclusion of his 93rd birthday at The Pines in Holton, Kansas. Kenneth was born in Wathena, Kan. on February 25th, 1927 to parents Edward and Lois (Clinton) Dubach. His family moved to a farm west of Troy, Kan. where he learned to work hard. &nbsp;Kenneth married his wife Delorise “Imogene” (Waller) Dubach of Ponca City, Okla. On May 6th, 1951 following a storybook courtship. He liked to say “I wore out my car” driving back and forth to Oklahoma courting his future wife. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in the 96th&nbsp;Battalion and served in Korean War, 1951-1953. He frequently told the story of returning to Fort Carson, Colo.&nbsp; His beloved wife having driven through the night to receive him at 6:30 in the morning. Like many veterans, he talked little of the war until the last years of his life, but he is honored for his service and sacrifices for his family, and country. Upon his return, he and Imogene bought a home in Troy, Kan. where he lived for 67 years of his life. There they raised two children as he worked for the local feed store and grain elevator until their closure. He then opened and ran Master Mix feed store from his home for 11 years. He received many recognitions for sales. He also repaired and sold bicycles on the side, a venture he enjoyed with his son and bred dogs, which he enjoyed with his daughter. Kenneth was known as a generous, steady presence in the community. He retired in 1995, but remained active for many years. Kenneth was highly devoted to his family, work, and community. He often volunteered to sing “The Ole’ Gray Mare” or “Home of the Range” at all of his grandkids’ events, and was never without a tease and a laugh. He will be missed by all. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Imogene Dubach, his parents Edward Oscar and Lois Dubach, siblings Lavern Peden and Ruth Peden, and sister-in-law Shirley Weber (Jerral). Billy Ardery Korell, 95, fell asleep Monday evening, February 24, at Diversicare of St. Joseph and woke up in heaven. He was surrounded by his family and caregivers.

He was the son of John and Mary Jule (Ardery) Korell and born December 24, 1924 in Savannah, Missouri.

Billy married Patty Garrett April 20, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. They would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary in April. She is also a resident at Diversicare.

He was a devoted Christian and a member of St. Paul Lutheran, where he served in many capacities. He was a Sunday School and Bible Class teacher for more than 50 years as well as a church Elder and Evangelism Committee member for many years. He often said his greatest joy was sharing his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He visited hundreds of friends, shut-ins, hospital patients and nursing home residents throughout the years. He was also active in the Lutheran Layman’s League, an international men’s service organization, for many years and also served as state president.

Billy graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph at mid-term in 1942. He immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He served three years in World War II as a medic during the Third Army’s liberation of Germany before he was transferred to Japan. He then served a year during the Korean War.

Billy was the co-owner of Quality Sheet Metal and continued to work part-time in the shop until he was 80 years old. He was a craftsman sheet metal fabricator and also taught a sheet metal shop class at Maryville High School in the 1960s. He also was a skilled artist and commercial sign painter.

Billy was an excellent fastpitch softball player, horseshoe pitcher and golfer. He coached his sons’ baseball, softball and basketball teams. He regularly attended his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s events. He had been bound to a wheelchair by Parkinson’s Disease and dementia for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Morgan Wall, and sister, Ruth Ann (Korell) Boore.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Ken Korell(Donna) and Jim (Debi); daughter, Billie Sue Wall (Greg). He is also survived by grandchildren, Brad Korell, Jessica Korell, Ashley (Korell) Butler, Doug Korell, Mark Korell, Tiffani (Wall) Teschner, Lyndsay (Wall) Klein, Luke and Andy Voltmer and Amber Trotter; great grandchildren, Jordan Korell, Mallory Ruden, Caroline Ruden, Elise Lehne, Charlie Butler, Eli Korell, Kolby Korell, Jake Korell, Morgan (Russell) Galvin, Ben Schneider, Addy Schneider, Lila Voltmer, Chloe Hubbard, Lydia Voltmer, Perrin Voltmer, Camille Voltmer, Ronin Voltmer, Jinson Trotter, Jenkins Trotter and Greenly Trotter; and by nieces and nephews, Pam McIntyre, Andy Beach, Betsy Beach, Brent Archdekin, Dale Richard Archdekin, Melinda Riles, John Boore, Paula Albert and Tim Boore; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Jaime Allison Shelby  1976 - 2020

Helen M. Knabe, 79, of Hiawatha, died Friday night, February 21, 2020, at Maple Heights Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Vintage Park for many years.

Helen was born on July 30, 1940 in Kilgore, Texas, one of nine children born to Sidney S. Long, Sr. and Effie Loden Long. She grew up and attended schools in Kilgore, graduating from high school in 1958.

She met her future husband, Wayne, while working at a movie theater as he attended LeTourneau Vo-Tech in Longview, Texas. They were married on April 10, 1959 in Longview and began farming near Edgerton, Kansas. In 1963, they moved to a farm outside of Hiawatha where they farmed and raised livestock.

Helen was a longtime member of Bethany United Church of Christ where she belonged to the Women’s Guild. She volunteered with Mt. Zion Rustlers 4-H Club, and later worked at Coast-to-Coast in Hiawatha. She was a published author of her beloved poems, and her creative abilities were an inspiration to many. Helen was a graduate of Highland Community College. Education was important to her, and she ensured that all her children graduated with college degrees.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Mary Gonzalez, Beverly Spillane, Sidney S. Long, Jr., Dorothy Smith, Martha Long and infant sister Theresa Long.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday, February 26th at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home with family present from 6:00-7:30.

Helen M. Knabe, 79, of Hiawatha, died Friday night, February 21, 2020, at Maple Heights Nursing &amp; Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Vintage Park for many years.Helen was born on July 30, 1940 in Kilgore, Texas, one of nine children born to Sidney S. Long, Sr. and Effie Loden Long. She grew up and attended schools in Kilgore, graduating from high school in 1958.She met her future husband, Wayne, while working at a movie theater as he attended LeTourneau Vo-Tech in Longview, Texas. They were married on April 10, 1959 in Longview and began farming near Edgerton, Kansas. In 1963, they moved to a farm outside of Hiawatha where they farmed and raised livestock.Helen was a longtime member of Bethany United Church of Christ where she belonged to the Women’s Guild. She volunteered with Mt. Zion Rustlers 4-H Club, and later worked at Coast-to-Coast in Hiawatha. She was a published author of her beloved poems, and her creative abilities were an inspiration to many. Helen was a graduate of Highland Community College. Ralph W. Davis, Jr., 74, of Robinson, died Wednesday evening, February 19, 2020, surrounded by family, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been a patient a few days. He previously had been a resident of Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.A celebration of Ralph’s is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Chaplain Tim Champ of Freedom Hospice will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson.The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions suggested to Freedom Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.Ralph was born November 6, 1945, at Wichita, the son of Ralph William Sr. and Donna Jean Morriss Davis and had grown up in Wichita where he attended school, before working to complete his GED at Sabetha. He served his country with the U.S. Army for four years, discharged in 1966, at the rank of private first class, serving with the First Missile Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery. Ralph returned home and attended Highland Community College where he studied juvenile delinquency and accident investigation. He worked as a tractor and auto mechanic all of his life, not only on his vehicles, but also for community friends, which allowed him to be very good as an auto parts manager for STR in Hiawatha, which he did for many years, retiring in 2015. Previously he worked for Dean Erdley in Robinson at the Mobil service station for a number of years, before he operated it for several years on his own. Ralph also was a dispatcher/deputy for the Brown County Sherriff Department and served as the Robinson City Marshal.Ralph was a very active, dedicated community servant: a volunteer firefighter with the Robinson Fire Department, retiring as assistant chief after 38 years of service; served on the Brown County Sheriff Reserves for 15 years where he served as its president. He also coached little league baseball for six years, served on the Robinson Parks &amp; Recreation Committee, active with Cub Scouts, later serving a Scout Master. Ralph attended the Robinson United Methodist Church thru the years. When he made time for hobbies, it included: oil lamps, HO model trains, and working on his cars and truck.Ralph memories include: the death of my Mother and Grandson broke my heart. Life Goes on. The night I met my beloved wife; the birth of his daughter and son was great days, and vacationing with best friends Steve and Sharilyn Gilbert family, along with Harlan and Susan Kneisel.He married Christina M. Butrick, at the Baptist Church in Hiawatha, May 28, 1968. They moved to Robinson shortly after their first child was born and spent the rest of their life in Robinson. He and Chris were blessed with two children: Dona and Rick. Chris died July 18, 2019. He was also preceded by his parents, step-mother, grandson Nick Ploeger.

Robert A. “Bob” Cummings, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, is finally enjoying his perfect body with our Lord, passing peacefully, surrounded by the love of family and all the caregivers who have loved and taken care of him for four years in Diversicare.

Born November 18, 1950 to Clifford C. and Elinor M. (Brock) Cummings, Bob was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.

Bob never let his mild cerebral palsy handicap him. He graduated from Central High School in 1970, and from Missouri Western in 1978. Although some people thought his BS was in BS, his degree was actually in Sociology and political science- areas which pretty much defined him. Bob didn’t know a stranger and always inserted himself into life; and you KNOW how political Mr. Republican was!

Bob was proud to have collaborated on the development of the Missouri state disabled license plate law. He enjoyed his time with the St. Joseph Jaycees, and was awarded Outstanding Young Man in 1982. He was a proud Moila Shriner as well as a Mason and was very active with the UPC. And who could forget how you used to see him all the time at restaurants in St. Joe? Three meals a day times three different restaurants every day means a lot of eating and a lot of friends!

Bob was also a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a past deacon and elder. He served as a chairperson for the Disability Services Board of St. Joseph.

Bob loved to write poems and was the author of a book called “Reflections Of.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford C. and Elinor B. Cummings and brother, Charles Cummings.

Survivors include sister, Susan Hurst, St. Joseph, Missouri; brother, Steve (Teri) Cummings, Mount Horeb, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Darleen Cummings, Overland Park, Kansas; nieces, Lindsey (Scott) Welsch, Jana (Joe) Vastine, Carla Owens, Amy (Mike) Roper, Megan (Luke) Clisbee; nephews, Brock (Catherine) Cummings, Bryce (Laura) Hurst; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Betty Carol James, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020.

She was born June 30, 1931 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Betty was an accomplished artist and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Park College. She was a teacher for the St. Joseph School District for 40 years and continued to substitute teach for another 10 years after retiring.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Mary (Shepherd) Boydston; and her sister, Mary Ellen Boydston.

Survivors include her son, Matthew Henry James and her grandson, Julian Elkins James.

Dennis Allan Stout 69, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home. 

He was born May 27, 1950 in Whittier, California, son of the late Melva &amp; Ralph Stout. He married Linda Shepley March 6, 1989, and she survives of the home. He graduated from Benton High School, and served in the United States Navy. He retired from Midland Steel as a Welder. His passion was playing blue grass music and all the stringed instruments associated with it. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Dave Stout. 

Survivors include wife, Linda Stout of the home, son, Cody (Emily) Deakins, Kansas City, step sons, Charles (Terri) Miller, Rogers, AR, and Denny Martin (Dawn) Deakins, of Iowa, step daughter, Tammy (Bruce) Wilkes, Colorado Springs, CO, daughters, Tracy (Scott) Hoffman, Minnesota, and Kimberlie (Kory) Betts, Cedar Rapids, IA, son, Jason Stout, Kansas City, and brother, Kenny Stout, 18 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, with funeral services starting at 7:00 p.m at the Rupp Funeral Home. He will be cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Veterans Community Project.&nbsp;

Samuel "Sam" E. Cluck, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri; passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care.

Sam was born on August 2, 1940 in Troy, Kansas to the late Harrison and Lucille (Bird) Cluck.&nbsp; He was a 1958 graduate of Central High School.

Mr. Cluck worked as a controller for Melvin Ketters, CPA, Provident Savings and Loans, Pand S Auto Action and M.A.D.E. Auto Action before retiring.

Sam was a member of Copeland Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling, camping and talking as he never knew a stranger, but above all were his three granddaughters.

Sam married Janice Frederick on January 19, 1962 and recently celebrated their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary.&nbsp; She survives him of the home.

Additional survivors include sons, Jeffrey (Davona) Cluck, Kevin (Peggy) Cluck; beloved dog, Gabbie; three granddaughters, Hollie Norton (Kolter, Kristyn Cluck (Adam McCarthy) and Andrea Cluck (Joey Adams, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Cluck and Mabel "Dollie" Cluck.

Samuel "Sam" E. Cluck  1940 - 2020

Loren "Larry" Dale Gordon, 82, of St. Joseph, Missouri; passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born on July 28, 1937 in Correctionville, IA to Arthur Earl and Freda Marie (Hinkhouse) Gordon.&nbsp; He graduated from Correctionville High School and from Morningside College with a BS in Business Administration and Secondary Education.&nbsp; Loren enjoyed playing sports in high school and college.&nbsp;

He served his country in the Air National Guard from 1959 through 1965.

Loren married Nancy Beth Murtagh on July 22, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA.&nbsp; Loren then took over operating the family farm and later worked in the farm seed industry as an area director.&nbsp;

Loren and Nancy had four children.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, golf and sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Loren is survived in the home by Nancy.&nbsp; In addition, his daughters, Linda (Eric) Bahrke, Lisa Gordon, and his sons, Tim (Wendy) Gordon and Matt Gordon; his grandchildren, Nick (Jacquie) Gordon, Adam (Lexie) VanWyhe, Jessica (Greg) Diederich and Sarah Bahrke; 6 great-grandchildren and his sister Doris "Sis" Denton; brother-in-law, Don Murtagh and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert; and twin sisters, Jeanne and Joanne and nephew, Christopher Murtagh.

Memorial Service 2:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2020 with a reception to follow at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

A Graveside Service and Celebration of Life will be held in Correctionville, IA at a later date.

Loren "Larry" Dale Gordon, 82, of St. Joseph, Missouri; passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.Larry was born on July 28, 1937 in Correctionville, IA to Arthur Earl and Freda Marie (Hinkhouse) Gordon.&nbsp; He graduated from Correctionville High School and from Morningside College with a BS in Business Administration and Secondary Education.&nbsp; Loren enjoyed playing sports in high school and college.&nbsp;He served his country in the Air National Guard from 1959 through 1965.Loren married Nancy Beth Murtagh on July 22, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA.&nbsp; Loren then took over operating the family farm and later worked in the farm seed industry as an area director.&nbsp;Loren and Nancy had four children.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, golf and sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals.Loren is survived in the home by Nancy.&nbsp; In addition, his daughters, Linda (Eric) Bahrke, Lisa Gordon, and his sons, Tim (Wendy) Gordon and Matt Gordon; his grandchildren, Nick (Jacquie) Gordon, Adam (Lexie) VanWyhe, Jessica (Greg) Diederich and Sarah Bahrke; 6 great-grandchildren and his sister Doris "Sis" Denton; brother-in-law, Don Murtagh and numerous nieces and nephews.Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert; and twin sisters, Jeanne and Joanne and nephew, Christopher Murtagh.Memorial Service 2:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2020 with a reception to follow at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.A Graveside Service and Celebration of Life will be held in Correctionville, IA at a later date.Memorial donations may be made to Salem Lutheran Church 1391 Lee Ave, Correctionville, IA for the LIFT Children's Program or the charity of your choice.Online condolences may be left at heatonbowmansmith.com.<figure>

Ralph W. Davis, Jr., 74, of Robinson, died Wednesday evening, February 19, 2020, surrounded by family, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital where he had been a patient a few days. He previously had been a resident of Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.A celebration of Ralph’s is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Chaplain Tim Champ of Freedom Hospice will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson.The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services.Memorial contributions suggested to Freedom Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.Ralph was born November 6, 1945, at Wichita, the son of Ralph William Sr. and Donna Jean Morriss Davis and had grown up in Wichita where he attended school, before working to complete his GED at Sabetha. He served his country with the U.S. Army for four years, discharged in 1966, at the rank of private first class, serving with the First Missile Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery. Ralph returned home and attended Highland Community College where he studied juvenile delinquency and accident investigation. He worked as a tractor and auto mechanic all of his life, not only on his vehicles, but also for community friends, which allowed him to be very good as an auto parts manager for STR in Hiawatha, which he did for many years, retiring in 2015. Previously he worked for Dean Erdley in Robinson at the Mobil service station for a number of years, before he operated it for several years on his own. Ralph also was a dispatcher/deputy for the Brown County Sherriff Department and served as the Robinson City Marshal.Ralph was a very active, dedicated community servant: a volunteer firefighter with the Robinson Fire Department, retiring as assistant chief after 38 years of service; served on the Brown County Sheriff Reserves for 15 years where he served as its president. He also coached little league baseball for six years, served on the Robinson Parks &amp; Recreation Committee, active with Cub Scouts, later serving a Scout Master. Ralph attended the Robinson United Methodist Church thru the years. When he made time for hobbies, it included: oil lamps, HO model trains, and working on his cars and truck.Ralph memories include: the death of my Mother and Grandson broke my heart. Life Goes on. The night I met my beloved wife; the birth of his daughter and son was great days, and vacationing with best friends Steve and Sharilyn Gilbert family, along with Harlan and Susan Kneisel.He married Christina M. Butrick, at the Baptist Church in Hiawatha, May 28, 1968. They moved to Robinson shortly after their first child was born and spent the rest of their life in Robinson. He and Chris were blessed with two children: Dona and Rick. Chris died July 18, 2019. He was also preceded by his parents, step-mother, grandson Nick Ploeger.Survivors include Dona Enke (Willard) of Robinson, son Rick Davis (Amanda) of New Albany, OH, step brother Paul Macartney of Hiawatha, grandchildren: Matt Ploeger (Nicole) of Atchison, CMCA Hannah Ploeger (Daymond Wallace) of Sicily, Italy, Madeline Davis and Ella Davis of New Albany, OH, 2 great-grandsons: Andrew and Lincoln Ploeger and another on the way, surviving also are other relatives and friends including Sharilyn &amp; Steve Gilbert, Harlan &amp; Susan Kneisel. James Dean Flach Jr., 61, of Savannah, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020 at his home.

He was born July 4, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO, to the late Josephine (Velazquez) and James Flach Sr. Jim attended St. James Catholic School for 5 years then Spring Garden. He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1976 and served on his class reunion committee for over 40 years. Following graduation worked for Far-Mar- Co. (AGP) until 1981. Jim decided to follow in his father's footsteps and serve a four year apprenticeship in the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local #81, now merged as Local #2 in St. Joseph.

After turning out to Journeyman status as a Sheet Metal Worker, Jim became a foreman and then an outside field superintendent on numerous projects over a span of 20 years in Northwest Missouri and surrounding areas, mainly working for Hausman Metal Works and Roofing Inc. for many years.

Giving back to his trade, Jim served as a trustee on the St. Joseph area Sheet Metal Workers Local #2 Apprenticeship program for over 20 years, mentoring the future Journeymen of his trade. In the year 2000, Jim was elected by the membership as a Business Representative for Local #2 and served in that capacity until his retirement in October 2014. Jim also served as a Union trustee on the MO-Kan Sheet Metal Workers Health and Welfare Fund.

Jim was a delegate to the St. Joseph Building and Construction Trades Council, holding the positions of Financial and Recording Secretary and Vice President. Jim was also a delegate of Northwest Missouri Central Labor Council. Upon retirement Jim was appointed President of the St. Joseph area Sheet Metal Workers Retirees Club.

Jim loved all outdoor activities, mainly camping, hunting, fishing, watching dirt track racing, sport shooting, hanging out in his shop with friends and family and drinking lots of barley and hops.

Jim had 2 children by his first marriage Ashley Dawn (Flach) Smith and her husband Jay and Brandon James Dean Flach and his wife Deneise, which he loved equally. Jim also had two step daughters, Erinn (Durrie) Gemmell and her husband Jay and Melissa Durrie which he loved equally as his own. On March 28, 1996 Jim married Rhonda (Buller) Flach and they recently celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary and she survives of the home. He is also survied by his sisters, Susan (Robert) Edwards, Julie (Randy) Cluck, and, June (Carl) Williams, 4 grandchildren, Jaben Flach, Addie Gemmell, Haleigh Smith and Miah Gemmell.

Jim has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Rupp Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Flach, officiating. Arturo Mejia, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born May 5, 1928 in Gary, IN, son of Refuio and Daniel Mejia. He was the oldest of the 3 boys, a responsibility he took seriously. He raised his brothers from a young age and remained close to them to the very end. During his lifetime he moved from Mexico to St. Joseph and worked at Swift &amp; Co Packing House until its closing. He then became a licensed HVAC Technician, retiring from his own business in 1992. His passion in life was golfing, which he enjoyed doing with his son's in law and brother Rudy and his grandchildren. he also enjoyed fishing, horseshoes and playing cards. He was a member of Guadalupe Men's Club and Little United Nations Club and St. James Catholic Church.&nbsp; 

Arturo was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alfred Mejia and granddaughter Angela. 

He leaves behind his ex-wife Elisa Mejia and their children Emma (Steve) Bridger of Country Club, MO, Elsa (Gary) Price of King City, MO, Sandra (Greg) Tugon of St. Joseph, Mary (Rick) Ferbert of Faucett, MO, Art Mejia, Jr. of St. Joseph, Lorrie (Tom) Neppl of Colorado Springs, CO, Mario (Josephine) Mejia of Independence, MO, Jane "Delia" (Greg) Barr of Camden Point, MO, brother, Rudy Mejia of St. Joseph, his partner of 37 years, Kathy Mejia and her children Margo, Tina and Shelly and her 9 grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, his 29 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Betty Lynn Higgins ,67, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday February 18, 2020 in St. Joseph. 

She was born October 16, 1952 in Mesa, Arizona daughter of Barbara &amp; Robert Higgins. She graduated from Benton High School. She worked at Quaker Oats. 

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Robert Edward Higgins, mother, Barbara LaDoris Grossman, brother, Robert L. Higgins. 

She is survived by daughter, Terri (Bobby) Sweet, son, Buddy (Nancy) Higgins, sisters, Cindy (David) Winger, and Denise (Lucy) Steele, brother, David (Gina) Daniels, grandchildren, Mitchell Watts, Gary (Adrian) Hatfield, Shawn Ian Almanza, Troy Higgins, Chase Higgins, great-grandchildren, Dallen, Jaylin, Kamryn Watts and Joslynn and Cyrus Hatfield, her beloved cat, Sissy, and her dear friends, Linda Derry, Jane Randolph, and Dean Scofield.

Betty Lynn Higgins  1952 - 2020

Beloved Mother, Mimi, and Family Matriarch.  Shirley was born November 16th, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Charles and Virginia Chrisman. 

 During her childhood in St. Joseph, Shirley was often seen with her younger brother Larry at the local movie theatre.  Shirley attended Central High School and in 1951, Shirley married Oakey Grissinger.  The couple remained in St. Joseph raising their daughters, Marla and Susan, until Oak’s job transferred them to across the country.  Shirley refused to define herself as a “Home Maker” and volunteered at local political campaigns, gave time to the local Meals On Wheels and taught her grandchildren to play Blackjack at the breakfast table.  Throughout life, Shirley was a vicarious reader and an avid fan of crossword puzzles.  Her home was decorated in blue, earning her the nickname of “The Blue Lady.”

 Tragedy struck in 1985, when Shirley’s husband of thirty-five years passed away.  Out of the ashes of heartbreak, a new love blossomed when Shirley met her long-term companion Bill Jacoby.  They spent the next two decades traveling the country in their motor home, visiting friends and family, and spending the winter months in their new home of Mission, Texas. 

 After the passing of Bill in 2013, Shirley relocated back to the Kansas City area, spending the twilight of her years with her daughter Marla and her grandchildren.&nbsp;

Shirley passed on February 15, 2020 after a long bout of illness, she fought hard till the end, living and leaving life on her own terms. 

 Shirley left behind a legacy of two daughters, Marla Hunter-Copple (Steve Copple) and Susan Grissinger, four grandchildren, Jeremy and Shannon Hunter and Jennifer and Phil Allumbaugh, and three great grandchildren, Hailey Johnson, Madelynn Hunter, and Hunter Allumbaugh. 

 In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be placed to either St. Luke's Hospice House or The American Heart Association.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The couple remained in St. Joseph raising their daughters, Marla and Susan, until Oak’s job transferred them to across the country. Shirley refused to define herself as a “Home Maker” and volunteered at local political campaigns, gave time to the local Meals On Wheels and taught her grandchildren to play Blackjack at the breakfast table. Throughout life, Shirley was a vicarious reader and an avid fan of crossword puzzles. Her home was decorated in blue, earning her the nickname of “The Blue Lady.” Tragedy struck in 1985, when Shirley’s husband of thirty-five years passed away. Out of the ashes of heartbreak, a new love blossomed when Shirley met her long-term companion Bill Jacoby. They spent the next two decades traveling the country in their motor home, visiting friends and family, and spending the winter months in their new home of Mission, Texas. After the passing of Bill in 2013, Shirley relocated back to the Kansas City area, spending the twilight of her years with her daughter Marla and her grandchildren.&nbsp;Shirley passed on February 15, 2020 after a long bout of illness, she fought hard till the end, living and leaving life on her own terms. Shirley left behind a legacy of two daughters, Marla Hunter-Copple (Steve Copple) and Susan Grissinger, four grandchildren, Jeremy and Shannon Hunter and Jennifer and Phil Allumbaugh, and three great grandchildren, Hailey Johnson, Madelynn Hunter, and Hunter Allumbaugh. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be placed to either St. Luke's Hospice House or The American Heart Association.&nbsp; &nbsp;<figure>

Genevieve “Joyce” Knadler, 79, Easton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

She was born November 11, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Joyce married Roger Knadler on November 16, 1968; he survives of the home.

She worked at Whitaker Cable for 15 years before starting a family.

Joyce was an avid Bingo player, bowler, and a Christian. She was a wonderful mother to her beautiful daughters and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce enjoyed attending the Whitaker Cable Club luncheon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Katherine (White) Martin; and sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Best.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Roger; daughters, Jennifer Roderick (Brian, Kathy Kunze (Chris); grandchildren, Jake Roderick, Jaycie Kunze, Brett Roderick, Rylee Kunze; siblings, Walter H. Martin, Roseanne Gilbert, Bill Martin; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Marilyn J. (Tunks) McMillen, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care.

She was born on December 27, 1934 in Daviess County, near Weatherby, Missouri on her great-grandfather, Albert Wigglesorth’s farm.&nbsp;



Marilyn was raised on the farm of her great-grandfather, John Tunks, a Century farm, near Fairport, Missouri. She attended Liberty District #42 one-room school for all eight grades. She rode her horse (Beauty) most of the time. She graduated from Maysville High School in 1952.

Marilyn attended the summer semester (1952) at Maryville State Teacher’s College in Maryville, Missouri. She planned to be a teacher, but her mother had other plans for Marilyn. So, she attended Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, 1952-1955, graduated and became a registered nurse. As a nurse, she held many jobs in staff, teaching, and management. She held positions at Missouri Methodist Hospital; Sister’s Hospital; Noll Memorial Hospital, Bethany, Missouri, where she was Director of Nursing; Heartland Regional Medical Center, where she developed and implemented the Admitting Nurse and Pre-Admission Testing Department and was Supervisor from 1984 until 2009; she was an office nurse for Dr. C.S. Grant, MD; she was a nurse coordinator for the American Red Cross flu &amp; vaccine clinics; and worked for Specialized Support Services for almost five years, retiring in 2015.

She was active in the community wherever she lived. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star for over fifty years, serving as Worthy Matron, District Deputy, Grand Representative to Puerto Rico and State Officer (Grand Adah) in 1998. She served as President of the Missouri State Grand Representatives Club in 2007. She belonged to the Missouri State Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Major Molly Chapter, serving as Chapter Regent, District Director and State Historian 2008-2010 and State Librarian 2010-2012. She later joined St. Joseph DAR Chapter so she did not have to drive so far. For 15 years, Marilyn was a camp nurse for the Royal Family Kids Camp for abused children ages 6 to 12 years, sponsored by the First Christian Church. She belonged to Eagles Lodge #49 Auxiliary, serving in many officers including Auxiliary President 2015-2016. She implemented CPR Classes for the South Harrison Elementary School Teachers, taught nursing classes at Trenton Junior College; was president of the Northwest Director of Nursing organization; was a member of the State Board of Nursing and the American Nurses Association; was a member and served as president of the Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Fi Sorority in Bethany, Missouri; served on the Country Club Zoning Board and once served as the secretary of the Pony Express Credit Union. These are only a few things she was involved in over her lifetime.

In addition to her professional life, Marilyn was also a member of First Christian Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. She served as secretary to the Administrative Board, Deacon, Elder, choir member and helped serve at the Open Door Food Kitchen and chaired various committees.

Marilyn went back to college and graduated in 1982 from Ottowa University, Ottowa, Kansas with a B.A. in Health Care and M.A. in Hospital administration. She did this while working full time!

Marilyn married Bernard W. McMillen June 14, 1959 at her family church, Pleasant Hill Christian Church near King City, Missouri. They were married sixty years. Bernard survives of the home. They were blessed with two sons, Scott (Debbie) McMillen of Liberty, Missouri, and Eric (Kelly) McMillen of Maysville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Joshua (Stacey) McMillen of Kansas City, Missouri, Ethan McMillen of Kansas City, Missouri, Jordan McMillen of St. Joseph, Missouri and Jada McMillen of St. Joseph, Missouri and one great-granddaughter, Margot Grace McMillen.

She is also survived by a brother, Gary (Barbara) Tunks of Van Cleave, Mississippi, and a niece, Cynthia Killgore of Cameron, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William John Tunks, and one niece, Kimberly Tunks.

Marilyn loved her four grandchildren. Watching the boys play basketball was her life for many years and she a seldom missed a game. Jada, the only granddaughter, was very special to Marilyn, as they enjoyed shopping, sharing secrets and just being girls together. Jada took the place of the girl Marilyn always wished she had. What fun she had with all her grandchildren!

Marilyn dedicated her life to her family, her sons, her grandchildren and her nursing profession.

Even though she was busy in her community, behind the scenes, she was always a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and nurse. She loved being a nurse, helping those who needed her, even in her retirement. She always said, “As long as I can be of help to those less fortunate, then that’s where I’ll be, retired or not!” She loved being outside, digging in the dirt, camping, fishing, traveling and watching the birds. She loved animals. She really was a country girl at heart.

Farewell Services: 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. Entombment Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. The Family suggests memorial gifts to Royal Camp Kids.

He was born July 23, 1953 to Ray and Delores (Lemar) Hendrix.

Rod loved watching Chiefs football, motorcycles, working on cars; and his English bulldogs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Hendrix.

Survivors include sons, Neil Hendrix (Kaci, Ryan Hendrix; daughters, Falon Hendrix, Shelly Metzinger (Craig, and Rachel Culvert; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; mother, Delores Hendrix; brothers, Leroy Hendrix (Regina, Lynn Hendrix, and Michael Hendrix (Debra).
