Sharon Jane (Betts) Agee 75, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care hospital. 

She was born December 13, 1944 in Atchison, KS, daughter of the late Regina and Jesse Betts. Sharon worked 33 years at Mead Products in the envelope department until its closing in 2004. She then obtained her high school diploma from Lafayette High School, after completing the Graduation Recovery Program in 2005. She retired from Nestle Purina in 2011. Sharon enjoyed cooking and baking for others, making holidays and birthdays special for everyone, loved gift giving, and spending time with her loved ones. 

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman, brothers, Bob, Richard, Walter, Harold, and Kenneth, sisters: Barbara Freeman, Carol Lawrence, and Joan Drimmel. 

Survivors include: daughter, Trolena Underwood (Curt Claycomb), Saint Joseph, MO, granddaughters, Nollee (Kyle) Luke and Tinsley (Nick) Krueger, great granddaughter, Averley Luke, sisters, Teresa Ernzen, Darlene O'Neal, and Doris Holloway, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, who she considered as her own grandchildren. 

Funeral services: 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Leanna VanZandt-Nauman officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 12 - 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the AFL-CIO Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program. Masks are mandatory in accordance with the wishes of the family.

Lettie Joann DeRoin, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at Riverside Care Center in St. Joseph. 

She was born January 14, 1928 in Hiawatha, Kansas, daughter of Wayne and Teresa "Tress" Hazlett. She married James L. DeRoin on October 31, 1946, and they shared 68 years together. Joann and her husband owned and operated Hazlett Painting Company, DeRoin Construction, and Jim &amp; Jo's Hyliner Bar. Joann loved her family very much, dedicating her life to making a home where they knew they were always welcome. She was an avid pet lover, adopting many pets through the years, but her favorites were her little dogs.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Richard DeRoin, brother, LeRoy Hazlett, sister, Mary Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Carla Martens. 

She is survived by two sons, Jim (Karon) DeRoin of White Cloud, KS and Phillip DeRoin of Elwood, KS, daughter-in-law, Bobbi DeRoin of St. Joseph, six grandchildren, Toni (Kevin) Peterson, Chad (Anne) DeRoin, Robbie (Brian) DeRoin-O'Connell, Brie (John) Phillips, Randi DeRoin, and Dakota Murphy, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. 

She has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Graveside Memorial Service and Inurnment will be held at a later date at White Cloud Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Friends of the Animal Shelter.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bradley Allen Ewart, 71, of St. Joseph, formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at his home. 

He was born October 10, 1949 in Leavenworth, KS. He graduated from East High School in Independence, MO class of 1967, and later the University of Texas with a Bachelor Degree in Business. He married Suzanne Fieth on October 3, 1984. Bradley was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the US Marine Corps. Bradley worked several jobs, and he retired as a Hospital Chaplain in the KC area. He loved animals, feeding birds, and collecting antiques, and he was a member of the VFW. 

Bradley was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Troy and Janet Ewart, uncle, Alvin Earl Ewart, his bulldog, Clyde, and several other four-legged kids. 

Survivors include, wife, Suzanne Ewart of the home, aunt, Dora Ewart of St. Joseph and her children, his cats, Callie, Harry, Gracie, and Sassy, and several cousins.

Mr. Ewart has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Friends of the Animal Shelter- St. Joseph.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hylan Jerome Hiatt 84, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care hospital. 

He was born October 13, 1936 in DeKalb, MO, son of the late Haskel and Rosie(Morris) Hiatt. He graduated from DeKalb High School, and he married his beloved Patricia Ridgeway on December 27, 1959 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and they would have been married 61 years. He started his working career with his dad, who owned and operated the Phillips 66 in DeKalb, MO. He also worked at Lucas Cadillac for many years, as well as Continental Can. Hylan was expert in detailing cars and a favorite among the locals. Hylan was a fun loving caring and generous person with a great sense of humor who enjoyed giving gifts and helping anyone in need. He loved having his family around especially during the holidays. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and collector. 

The family would like to thank Ed &amp; Janice Blair for their love and support. 

Hylan was preceded in death by his son, Hylan Jeffrey Hiatt on May 4, 2020, his parents, a brother, Monte Hiatt, and brother in law, Billy Ray.

Ronald P. McCulloch 75 of Plattsburg Missouri died Wednesday Nov. 18, 2020 at a Kansas City Missouri Hospital. Born on April 22, 1945 in St Joseph Missouri to Paul A. and Vida M. (Powell) McCulloch. 

Ron was a 1963 graduate of Plattsburg High School. He worked as a mechanic and was a member of the Chaparels Car Club of Plattsburg. He was a member of the Stony Point Church and Stony Point Church Cemetery Board member. On Nov.30, 1968 he married Beverly Bannister, they were married almost 52 years. 

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and son Travis McCulloch.

Survivors include his wife Beverly of the home; daughter Holly Schmitz and husband Brian of Kingsville Missouri; Cody McCulloch and wife Lissa Noctis of Plattsburg Missouri; his Brother Jim McCulloch of Plattsburg; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Olive Jean Snodderly, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of Orville and Garnet (Campbell) Lewis was born May 4, 1926 in Guilford, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 due to Covid-19 complications.

She was a graduate of Guilford High School. Olive married Logan Snodderly December 1, 1945. To this union they welcomed a son. After they were married Logan and Olive Jean lived a short time in Maryland while Logan finished out four years in the Marine Corp. They returned to St. Joseph where they made their home.

When Olive Jean was 24 years old, she put her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church.

Olive Jean was preceded in death by her husband Logan, May 7, 2013; parents; and sister Charlotte Brown.

Lula Belle Matthews 84, of DeKalb, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital due to complications of Covid 19. 

She was born June 24, 1936 in DeKalb, MO, a life long resident except for the last four years at the Gower Convalescent center, was the daughter of the late Addie and John Downing. She graduated from DeKalb High School class of 1954 and married James Matthews on June 24, 1955 in St. Joseph, MO. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed baking pies, cooking, flowers, gardening, watching her hummingbirds, purple martins, and wrens. Lula Belle was know for her infectious smile and wonderful positive attitude. She was a lifelong member of the DeKalb Christian Church, and served on the DeKalb Homecoming committee for many many years, she was also active with the DeKalb Ladies aid group with the Church. 

Lula Belle was preceded in death by husband, James Matthews Jr., her parents, sisters, Lola Downing, Helen Bush, and Mary Jo Downing, brothers, Bill, J.T. , Mack, and Tom Downing. 

Survivors include, daughter, Jamie Lue (Michael) Kates, St. Joseph, MO., and three sister in laws, Bonnie Downing, Rozann Downing, and Carol McDevitt, and a very special great nephew, Parker Pierce.

Family funeral services, with a public live stream : 10 am Monday, November 23, 2020 at the Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Bob Day Officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Westlawn Cemetery. Gordon G. Bledsoe, 72, of Mound City, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 due to illness. 

He was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on August 2, 1948 to Merrill Bledsoe and Helen McConnell who preceded him in death. 

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Bledsoe of Mound City; son Jared Bledsoe (Dawn) of TX; daughters Corey Olauson (Rich) of KS and Lacey Carlsruh (Daniel) of WI; sister Amanda Bledsoe of Forest City, MO; and 16 grandchildren, Mark, Sydney, Isaac, Allison, and Grace Bledsoe; AJ, Riley, Denna, Eric, and Sariah Olauson; and David, Grace, Lily, Seth, Caleb, and Spencer Carlsruh; his lunch buddy Kirby, and many other loving family and friends.

Gordon served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1974 and was awarded the Bronze Star. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon knew that families can be together forever. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and father, but his favorite title was grandpa. To his grandkids he was proudly known as A-pa.

Gordon was passionate about four things in life — his faith, his family, things that go fast, and rock-and-roll. He had the best laugh. Gordon and Elaine were married for over 50 years and although he never convinced her to put on some leather chaps and hop on the back of his Harley, she would take a ride in his Corvette. Are there Harleys in heaven? If there are, Gordon will be riding one, no helmet necessary.

Gordon’s family wishes to thank everyone for their many thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holt County Toy &amp; Benevolent Fund or the Mound City State Theater in Gordon’s name. Barbara M. Davis, 98, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

She was born August 13, 1922, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to George H. and Florence H. Walters. Barbara married Louis Buchanan Davis Jr. He preceded her in death in November 1999. They owned and operated Heart of America Ceramics in Kansas City, Kansas, from 1960 to 1984. Barbara and Louis enjoyed their home at the Lake of the Ozarks, and then retirement at Lake Viking. The also wintered in Mesa, Arizona, for about 10 years. She enjoyed the Kansas City Royals, car rides, taking in the fall foliage and visiting orchards. The family always gathered for holiday dinners. Many weekends were at the Lake of the Ozarks, where Barbara made peach ice cream every Fourth of July. She was not only the best cook, but also the best mom. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Pamela Williams; and siblings, George Walters, Mable Auxier and Doris Combs.

Survivors include daughter, Jerelyn May Willett (Craig); son, Louis B. Davis III (Valerie May); grandchildren, Kesia Marie, Samantha, Quentin and Chanel; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Danielle, Camille, Hailea and James; and sister, Virginia Halter.

Roseann Denbow 83, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 in a St. Joseph, MO health care center. 

She was born August 14, 1937 in Burmingham, England, daughter of the late Hilda and Charles Preece. She graduated from St. Michaels Roman Catholic High School. She worked at Hawk Communications, and the Western Regional Diagnostic Correctional Center in the Medical Department. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church Methodist. 

Roseann was preceded in death by husband, Charles H. Denbow, Sr., and her parents. 

Survivors include 2 sons, Derrick and David Soanes of Spowston, Norwich, England, daughter, Elaine Lemon, of England, and her friends and caretakers Michael &amp; Sandy Bomar.

Roseann Denbow  1937 - 2020

Louis Richard Jeffries, Jr., 75, Cameron, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri.

He was born January 1, 1945 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Richard attended Edison Grade School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1964. He also attended St. Joseph Jr. College, University of Hawaii, University of Georgia, University of South Carolina and Missouri Western State University before joining the Marines and during his enlistment. Richard enlisted in the Marine Corp serving from 1965 to 1969. Richard worked at the St. Joseph News Press and was last employed by Mead (Western Tablet Company).

Richard was a member of Ashland Avenue United Methodist Church, the Boy Scouts of America and had a lifetime membership to the V.F.W. Post #1668 in which he transferred to Post #7158 in Cameron, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Richard Jeffries, Sr. and Mabel (Birt) Jeffries-Miller; and grandparents, William J. and Zetta (King) Birt, Homer and Cora Jeffries; brother-in-law, Dean Miller.

Survivors include sisters, Jeannie Baker (Edward), Stewartsville, MO, Faye Miller, Kyle, TX; brother, Merle Lee Jeffries (Nancy); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Helen Louise Downing-age 94, longtime Holt, MO resident died Friday night, November 13, 2020. 

Helen was born on August 26, 1926, the daughter of Charlie and Florence (Baber) Cavender in Kansas City, MO. She grew up and attended school at Lathrop, MO. On June 2, 1947 she was united in marriage to Lewis Eugene Downing. They made their home on the farm in Holt where she resided until her passing. Helen was a Christian. She was a creative person who lovingly put together quilts, counted cross stitch, embroidered which are just a few of her so many talents. She loved gardening; red roses were her favorite flowers. Helen was known for her famous homemade rolls and pies. But mostly she will be remembered as the most loving mom, grandmother and granny by her family and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 sisters: Juanita Davis, Jo Ann Downey and Carolyn Buck.

She is survived by many friends and relatives including 3 daughters, Pamela Brown, Holt, Missouri; Cathy Shepherd (Rick) Arizona and Jackie Adkins, Holt, Missouri; and one son, Tim Downing (Laura) Holt, Missouri; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren.

Joseph M. Johnson 47 of Plattsburg Missouri died Monday Nov. 16, 2020 at a Kansas City Missouri healthcare center. 

Born on Feb. 4, 1973 in Sacramento CA., to Carl W. and Shirley J. (Gamble) Johnson. He was a high school graduate and attended college. Joey worked in the healthcare field for many years. He really enjoyed helping people.

Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Erskin and Evelyn Green and Carl and Tilda Johnson.

&nbsp; Lorene F. (Kane) Clemens, 95 of Atchison KS died on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Benedicts Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 20th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. She was a member of the St. Benedicts Church where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister and helped decorate the church for Christmas for many years. Lorene enjoyed bowling and had gone to both State and National Bowling Tournaments. She was a member of the Daughter’s of Isabella, the Veteran’s Administration Hospital Auxiliary, Leavenworth, and the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer for over 25 years. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and member of the VFW Auxiliary. Lorene was a member of the Red Hat Club and had served as Grand Marshall for the 1995 St. Patrick’s Day Parade. She was married to Oscar Edwin Clemens on February 18, 1947. Mr. Clemens preceded her in death on June 17, 1979. Survivors include three sons; Ron (Heidi) Clemens, Roseville, CA, Jerry (Sue) Clemens, Davenport, IA, and Joe Clemens and Peg Hargrove, Leavenworth, KS, three daughters; Judy (Ned) Ballinger, Sue (the late Bob) Durkin, Carol (Jeff) Smith, all of Atchison, KS, two brothers; John Kane, Jr, and Eugene Kane, both of Atchison, KS, fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Pamela Sue (Laws) Macrander, 67, of St. Joseph, passed away November 17, 2020.&nbsp; Pamela was born August 19, 1953 in St. Joseph, to Perry and Lauretta (Perks) Laws.

She was married to Wes Macrander and he preceded her in death.&nbsp; Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister Barbara Davis.

She was a member of Turning Point Nazarene.&nbsp; Pamela enjoyed crocheting, fishing, camping, going on trips, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son Tim Laws (Lisa); two granddaughters Jessica Laws, Heather Laws; and four great-grandchildren, Kamdyn, Dakotah, Sabrina, and Brydan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Partners or to the family for funeral expenses.

Rilla Kay Henman, age 82, passed away November 15, 2020 in St. Joseph, MO.

Rilla Kay is survived by three children, Kelly Lee Garrett, St. Joseph, MO, Scott Roger Henman (Lezli), Wilmington OH, and Ryan Marion Henman (Donna), St. Joseph, MO, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Ida (Calhoun) and Clarence Elvie Burnett, husband, Roger Lee Henman and sister, Eva Grace (Friede) Layson.

Rilla Kay was born August 18, 1938 in St. Joseph, MO.&nbsp; She graduated from Benton High School in 1957. In 1980, she moved to Honolulu, HI and accepted a position as a tax preparer at Bishop Trust, where she worked for many years. She retired from Clifton Gunderson in St. Joseph, MO.&nbsp; She enjoyed delivering Meals On Wheels in Andrew County, MO.

Rilla Kay was a loving mother and devoted wife. She married Roger in 1958 and on May 29, 2008 they celebrated their 50th&nbsp;wedding anniversary.

Rilla Kay was a socially active woman who was deeply involved in many bridge groups.&nbsp; She was a member of Francis Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening and feeding birds and was always up for an adventure somewhere.&nbsp; Her family and friends will always remember her as a lady who enjoyed family gatherings and lifelong friends.

A celebration of life will be planned after restrictions are lifted and we can gather safely.

The family would like to thank everyone who came to visit, sent cards or made phone calls to Rilla while she was ill. Each and every one meant so much to her.

Louis L. “Curly” Wenger was born at Powhattan, Kansas on September 13, 1926.&nbsp; He passed away on November 13, 2020.

He was the last of eleven children born to John and Caroline Widman Wenger.&nbsp; Curly grew up near Powhattan where he attended country school, prior to graduating from Powhattan High School. &nbsp;He was an Army veteran of World War II, discharged at the rank of Technician Fifth Grade from Ft. Riley in 1947.&nbsp; He returned to Powhattan and farmed with his brother Roy.&nbsp; Then he worked for the Rock Island Railroad for a number of years as a section hand, and later a brakeman.&nbsp; He retired to Powhattan and worked as a painter, working on homes and business buildings in the area until he retired.&nbsp; Curly made his home in Powhattan until moving to Pemberton Village Apartments in Hiawatha in 1989.&nbsp; He was in residence at Maple Heights Nursing Home the last eight years.

Mr. Wenger was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Powhattan.&nbsp; He was also a member and past commander of the Wenger Post #373, Powhattan American Legion.

Curly enjoyed music and was part of several singing groups in the area.&nbsp; In later years, he visited area nursing homes where he provided the music.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters:&nbsp; Goldie Kneisel, Gladys Thompson, Irene Wenger; seven brothers: Leroy, Raymond, Raphael, Johnnie, Don, Frank, and Charles.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Cremation is planned with a Graveside Service at 11 a.m. Saturday November, 28, at the Powhattan Cemetery.&nbsp; Pastor Mike Dunaway will officiate.&nbsp; Military honors will be a courtesy of the Powhattan Legion and Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

She was born November 23, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Clifford and Gayle (Staton) Wilkinson. Meredith was a business representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone for several years before retiring from there. She enjoyed retirement and going to Ponto Lake in Northern Minnesota for the summer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Kerns; companion, Leon Hayworth; parents; and sister, Vanita Clark (Vernon).

Survivors include her niece, Becky Parman; great-nephews, Jared Loch, Brett Wiley; great-great-niece and nephews, Zane, Wyatt, Lilly and Parker Loch.

Amanda Frye, 38, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 28, 1982 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Mark and Jodie (McMurry) Frye. Amanda was awarded a Military Service Metal and had served in Operation Inherent Resolve and Freedom Sentinel. She was a member of the 139th Air Lift Wing for 14 years. Amanda also worked at Plasma Biological Services and was owner/operator or VIP Massage and Tanning Salon. Amanda enjoyed helping others, coaching her daughter in volleyball and softball. She was a star athlete at Central High School, playing varsity basketball, softball, and volleyball.

Survivors include her daughter, Kara Renee Franks; parents; brother, Jake Frye; grandparents, Bonnie and Tom McMurry, Dee and Ernie Frye; aunt, Paula McGee (Bob); uncle, Jeff McMurry; numerous cousins, friends and extended family.
