Thomas E. McMurry, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 after complications from a fall.

He was born June 10, 1928 in Centerton, AR, son of the late Hattye and Elton McMurry. He grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from Benton High School in 1946. During high school he spent two summers in Estes Park, CO working on a Dude Ranch. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War as a U.S. Navy Signalman.

In his 20s he began a career with St. Joseph Light and Power Co. as a lineman, retiring as the line superintendent after 37 years. He also was a part-time bartender at The Bucket Shop for many years.

On February 12, 1955 he married Bonnie Heriford, she passed away in August, they shared 66 years of marriage and two children, Jodie and Jeff.

Tom was a very social person and was happiest on the golf course. He spent many years at Fairview Golf Course and co-founded and ran the Legends Senior Golf for over 20 years. He was inducted into their Hall of Fame. For many years he and Bonnie spent winter months in New Braunfels, TX golfing with a community of friends.

He was very active in the St. Joseph community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Southside Sertoma, President of the Park Board, a Red Cross committee member, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He helped start Little League in St. Joseph and along with Paul Arnold coached the Kovac's team in the south end. In 1974 he helped run the NAIA Baseball Tournament at Phil Welch Stadium.

Even at 93 he was busy every day. Many days he ate lunch and played cards at the American Legion. He met with his McDonald's/Taco John's friends for breakfast and arranged a weekly gathering of old friends for breakfast at Betty's Cafe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie, son Dan, granddaughter Amanda Frye; sister Benny Montemore; sister-in-law Barbara Keener.

He is survived by his daughter, Jodie Frye (Mark), St. Joseph; son, Jeff McMurry, Palm Springs, CA; grandson Jake Frye, St. Joseph ; great-granddaughter, Kara Franks, St. Joseph; sisters Charlene Musser, St. Joseph; and Betty Wendt, Houstonia, MO; brother-in-law, Robert Keener (Karen), Rancho Mirage, CA.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday September 29, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service for Tom and Bonnie at 2:30 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Will Purinton PHD officiating. Afterwards there will be a dinner at San Jose Steak House.

Robert A. Bermond passed away peacefully at his home on September 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in St. Joseph, MO on June 11, 1927. He was a Veteran, Life Service Member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, and served meals at Open Door Food Kitchen.

Bob married Mae Bunse on December 28, 1951 in Cosby, MO and farmed the 155-year-old family farm until retirement. He continued to live there until his death.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mae; his children, John (Mary) Bermond, Gregg (Cheryl) Bermond, Sandy (Dave) Butler, and Diane (Dan) Flugrad; grandchildren, Erin (Tim), Elizabeth, Alex, Erica (Sonny), Madeline, Kristina, and Ava; and a great-grandbaby due in February.

Arthur J. “Art” Adkins, 81, of Troy, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the Wathena Nursing &amp; Rehab Center.

Art was born on May 2, 1940 in Leona, Kansas to John and Claude (Randle) Adkins.

He was a member of First Baptist Church Troy, KS.

Art worked as a Lineman and later as Line Superintendent for Doniphan County Rural Electric Cooperative serving Doniphan County for 55 years retiring in 2015.

Art married Rosalee Ann Wright on April 23, 1960 in Troy, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark Adkins and granddaughter, Malorie Adkins, Nine brothers and sisters Betty, Sam, Gertrude, John, Melvin, Erma, Jack, Alfred, Dick.

Survivors: daughter, Sheila Gaul (Brad), Troy, Kansas.

Son, Bryan Adkins (Natalie), Country Club, Missouri.

Arthur "Art" J. Adkins  1940 - 2021

Charlotte Ann (Rieger) Dickinson, 94, of rural Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 23, 2021, at Valley Falls, Kansas.&nbsp; Charlotte was born March 21, 1927, near Powhattan, Kansas, to Lloyd Earl and Winifred May (King) Rieger.

She attended Plum Creek School and graduated from Fairview High School in 1944.

Upon graduation from high school, Charlotte was employed for several years at a Hiawatha bank and later part-time in various offices at the courthouse.

Charlotte was united in marriage to Alvin Emery Dickinson on December 15, 1946, at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Fairview, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union were born three children:&nbsp; Linda Stephens, Steven Dickinson, and Brenda McNary.

Following their marriage, Charlotte and Alvin made their home in Hiawatha, Kansas; they moved to a farm south of Hiawatha in 1950.&nbsp; Charlotte was a farm wife for 41 years and helped Alvin with typical farming activities such as feeding livestock, driving the tractor for hay making, hauling grain to the elevator, taking lunches to the field, and going for repair parts.

Mrs. Dickinson was a longtime member of&nbsp; Bethany United Church of Christ and Bethany Women’s Guild, where she was very active through the years.&nbsp; She was also a former Primary Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.&nbsp; Charlotte was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 0066, VFW 5210 Ladies Auxiliary, and Maple Leaf Squares.

Charlotte and Alvin enjoyed family vacation trips including visiting family in Okinawa, Japan.&nbsp; During retirement years, she enjoyed the tour trips which included visiting 49 states, Panama Canal, Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and Canada.

Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, her sister Kathryn Rees and husband LeRoy Rees, her sister Mary Holt and husband Leonard Holt, her brother Bernard Rieger, her son-in-law Robert Stephens, her brother-in-law Warren Dickinson and wife Dorothy Dickinson, and her sister-in-law Myrtle Krebs and husband Elmer Krebs.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughters Linda Stephens of Auburn, Kansas, Brenda (Michael) McNary of Meriden, Kansas, and her son Steven (Kelly) Dickinson of Horton, Kansas, and sister-in-law Glenda Rieger of Hiawatha, Kansas.&nbsp;

Grandchildren surviving include Marcella (Derek) Barker, Topeka, KS; Stephanie Ness, North Branch, MN; Rebecca Dickinson, Merriam, KS; Bethanie (Dean) Miller, Norfolk, NE; Matthew McNary, Omaha, NE; and Jennifer (Joel) Kruse, St. Louis Park, MN.&nbsp; Step-grandson is Kenneth (Dawn) Stephens, Hiawatha, KS.

Great-grandchildren surviving include Cody Barker, Trenton Barker, Bailey Dudrey, Dominic Dudrey, Kaleb Miller, Kellie Miller, and Kaycie Miller.&nbsp;&nbsp; Step-great-grandchildren are Derek Stephens and Althea Jo Jante.&nbsp; Step-great-great-grandchild is Carter Jante.

A celebration of Charlotte’s life is planned for 10:30 in the morning, Monday, September 27, at the Bethany United Church of Christ in Hiawatha with Pastor Shane Spangler officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Charlotte Ann (Rieger) Dickinson  1927 - 2021

Marolyn Joy Henry was born May 27, 1947 in Conover, NC.&nbsp; She lived there until 3 years old, when her family moved to a dairy farm in Phillipsburg, MO.&nbsp;

She attended Dry and Dusty Country School through 8th grade, then completed schooling in Lebanon.&nbsp;

Her first two years of college were in Concordia, MO, then she transferred to Chicago, Ill, where she attended Concordia River Forest.&nbsp; The highlight was going on a World Tour with her 1969 Accapella Choir.&nbsp;

She taught four years in Bronxville, NY, and was a housemother at the college.&nbsp; She decided that she would move to Springfield, MO, to acquire her Masters in Counseling.&nbsp; The first night of the first class, she met her soul mate, Suzanne Phares, August of 1973.&nbsp; From that point on, they enterrwined their families and lived a joyful life of working &nbsp;in professions they felt served people.&nbsp; The shared a love of family, friends, camping, pets, all of nature, exploring, and their love of the Colorado mountains.&nbsp;&nbsp; Her love of music was a constant, cheering the Kansas City Chiefs provided good times and every special sight in nature was a moment of gratitude.

She became an Episcopalian with Suzanne in 1976 and served as a substitute organist at Christ Episcopal Church in her early years in St. Joseph.&nbsp; Playing and listening to the pipe organ was very special to her.

Unfortunately, life took a turn in 1989 when exposed to formaldehyde fumes in a brand new travel trailer.&nbsp; By 1999, she was forced into early retirement by toxic exposures at her school.&nbsp; At that time, all chemicals that are considered part of everyday life caused reactions.&nbsp; Still she and Suzanne lived life with joy and gratitude though it was a much change of life.

After being chemically injured so severely in 1999; she and Suzanne formed a chemical injury support group in 2002 that at one time had over 100 members spanning the nation.

Marolyn is survived by Suzanne Phares&nbsp; of the home and Zach, her miniature schnauzer.

Predeceased were parents Bill and Madalon Henry, second parents Bert and Maxine Phares, sister Jodie, and special aunts, Dorothea and Margaret Phares.

Additional survivors are brothers Floyd (Leslie), Bill (Violeta), &nbsp;Doug (Karen) Phares, &nbsp;and sister Jeanette Milner (Jace) and dear long-time friend Joan Dixon; Nephews, Josh (Carly) Phares, &nbsp;Paul &nbsp;(Christina) Henry, Brian Phares; &nbsp;niece Vannessa Henry (Brad) McPheeters; great nephews Stuart and William; and other loved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; Services will be Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, MO.

No flowers please, but contributions to the animal rescue of your choice or The World Wildlife Fund would be appreciated.

Please come to the visitation and the funeral with masks and as fragrance-free as possible.&nbsp; Your presence will be most appreciated. Please wear casual dress

Marolyn Joy Henry was born May 27, 1947 in Conover, NC.&nbsp; She lived there until 3 years old, when her family moved to a dairy farm in Phillipsburg, MO.&nbsp;She attended Dry and Dusty Country School through 8th grade, then completed schooling in Lebanon.&nbsp;Her first two years of college were in Concordia, MO, then she transferred to Chicago, Ill, where she attended Concordia River Forest.&nbsp; The highlight was going on a World Tour with her 1969 Accapella Choir.&nbsp;She taught four years in Bronxville, NY, and was a housemother at the college.&nbsp; She decided that she would move to Springfield, MO, to acquire her Masters in Counseling.&nbsp; The first night of the first class, she met her soul mate, Suzanne Phares, August of 1973.&nbsp; From that point on, they enterrwined their families and lived a joyful life of working &nbsp;in professions they felt served people.&nbsp; The shared a love of family, friends, camping, pets, all of nature, exploring, and their love of the Colorado mountains.&nbsp;&nbsp; Her love of music was a constant, cheering the Kansas City Chiefs provided good times and every special sight in nature was a moment of gratitude.She became an Episcopalian with Suzanne in 1976 and served as a substitute organist at Christ Episcopal Church in her early years in St. Joseph.&nbsp; Playing and listening to the pipe organ was very special to her.Unfortunately, life took a turn in 1989 when exposed to formaldehyde fumes in a brand new travel trailer.&nbsp; By 1999, she was forced into early retirement by toxic exposures at her school.&nbsp; At that time, all chemicals that are considered part of everyday life caused reactions.&nbsp; Still she and Suzanne lived life with joy and gratitude though it was a much change of life.After being chemically injured so severely in 1999; she and Suzanne formed a chemical injury support group in 2002 that at one time had over 100 members spanning the nation.Marolyn is survived by Suzanne Phares&nbsp; of the home and Zach, her miniature schnauzer.Predeceased were parents Bill and Madalon Henry, second parents Bert and Maxine Phares, sister Jodie, and special aunts, Dorothea and Margaret Phares.Additional survivors are brothers Floyd (Leslie), Bill (Violeta), &nbsp;Doug (Karen) Phares, &nbsp;and sister Jeanette Milner (Jace) and dear long-time friend Joan Dixon; Nephews, Josh (Carly) Phares, &nbsp;Paul &nbsp;(Christina) Henry, Brian Phares; &nbsp;niece Vannessa Henry (Brad) McPheeters; great nephews Stuart and William; and other loved nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; Services will be Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, MO.No flowers please, but contributions to the animal rescue of your choice or The World Wildlife Fund would be appreciated.Please come to the visitation and the funeral with masks and as fragrance-free as possible.&nbsp; Your presence will be most appreciated. Mary Ellen Grieves, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021.

She was born in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma on September 7, 1931 during the Great Depression to George H. and Mary Jane (Wells) Luber. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse with Comanche Indians. After graduation from high school, she attended Oklahoma A&amp;M in Stillwater, Oklahoma. It was here that she met her future husband and in 1951 she married Robert Edward Grieves. They lived in West Allis, Wisconsin; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Newark, Ohio, and finally moved to St. Joseph in 1971. While in West Allis, she was employed by Allis-Chalmers. In Tulsa, she again worked for Allis-Chalmers, Bovaird Supply and then Unit Rig.

Mary Ellen was a member of First Street United Methodist Church. She was past president of Chapter HY, P.E.O. and belonged to the Carnegie Culture Club. She was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary of Tulsa and the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary. She was a very talented and artistic person. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and working with young children. While in Tulsa, she and Bob were instrumental in the formation of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling to England, crafting, aqua aerobics, and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she was very proud of.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; sister, Hallie Cook; and sister-in-law, Reva Jean Luber.

Survivors include sons, James Grieves (Tina), Scot Grieves (Debbie); grandchildren, Kristofer (Katie), Tristan (Mehgan) and Daniel Grieves, Laura Goodrich (Chris); brother, John Luber; brother-in-law, Bill Grieves; numerous nieces and nephews.

David Charles Novak 72, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Saint Joseph, MO. 

He was born January 2, 1949 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Berniece and Charles Novak. He graduated from Benton High School class of 1967, and he served in the Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked at KUSN radio as a Disc Jockey and KQTV as Television Producer.

 While working at a Kearney NE television station, David starred in a program he created called “Super Guy.” David also had his own Commercial Television production company, and he worked as the Church Administrator at Trinity Presbyterian Church. David enjoyed taking long drives, air shows, parades, and producing videos and commercials. David was a huge Kansas City Chiefs Fan, and was recently featured in a News-Press article on a surprise visit from the Chiefs Cheerleaders. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. 

David was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Tim Novak. 

Survivors include: sons, Sean Novak, St. Joseph, and Andrew (Cassie) Novak, Oak Harbor, WA. brother, Ronald Novak St. Joseph, MO., former wife, Diana Peters of Whidbey Island, WA, grandson, Owen Wray Novak, and granddaughter, Tearney Ashley.

Michael Edward Batchelder, 71, of Highland, KS peacefully passed away Sept 22, 2021.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike was born April 19. 1950, &nbsp;in St. Joseph, Missouri, the oldest of three children of John and Dorothy (Cole) Batchelder and was a lifelong Doniphan County resident where he attended Highland Schools, later graduated from Highland High School with the class of 1969.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike has had many health obstacles throughout his life, and he has faced each one head on.&nbsp; Mike could always be depended on to have a smile and make the best of every situation.&nbsp; &nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Law enforcement was his lifetime career, doing police work in Highland for a number of years. He later served as Doniphan County Deputy Sheriff to full time Sheriff retiring in 2001.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike loved his community and was involved in many civic activities including Highland Lions Club, Fire Department, EMS work and was a member of the city council.&nbsp; He was instrumental in helping obtain the funding for the new Fire Department/Community Building,

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a lifelong active member of Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed mission work of cooking meals in St. Joseph at the Open-Door Kitchen.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike was preceded in death by both parents, and a niece Bobbie Lyn Chauza.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He is survived by 2 sisters, Beverly (Terry) Montgomery of Sabetha, Patti (Bob) Chauza of West Jordan, UT, half-brother Buddy Noah of Phoenix, AZ, niece, Christi Grant and nephews, Daniel, Alex and Ryan Montgomery, great niece Keira Grant and nephew Wesley Grant.

A celebration of Mike’s eternal life is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Highland United Methodist-Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.&nbsp; The family will meet with friends one hour prior to service.&nbsp;&nbsp;The wearing of masks is requested.

James&nbsp; D. "Jim" Gossett, 75, of St. Joseph,&nbsp; passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

He &nbsp;was born to James E. and Madelyn L. Gossett on June 8, 1946.&nbsp;

He was a graduate of Lafayette High School.&nbsp; Jim &nbsp;was married to his wife Beverly for 55 years.&nbsp;

Jim &nbsp;served in the U.S. Army and went to Vietnam in 1966 - 1968.&nbsp; He completed the electrical program with IBEW 545.&nbsp;

He worked there for 20 years.&nbsp; James went to work with the St. Joseph School District for 23 years, retiring in 2008.

Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 359 and the Eagles Lodge.

He enjoyed all sports, bowling teams, golf buddies and playing cards with his friends.&nbsp; His biggest joy was his granddaughter, Courtney Gossett.&nbsp; He was so proud of her and she meant everything to him.

James is survived by his wife Beverly, son V.E. Gossett, granddaughter Courtney Gossett (fiance` Cody Fisk), brother-in-law Jerry (Marna) Milbourn, and sister-in-law Terrie (Tim) Creviston.

Mr. Gossett has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Per his request, there will be no visitation or services.

Matthew Jay ‘Matt’ Carroll, Sr., 37, Atchison, KS, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the Mosiac Life Care Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. Through the gift of organ donation, Matthew has helped save the lives of others. Cremation is planned and a visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Matthew Jay ‘Matt’ Carroll, Sr., 37, Atchison, KS, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the Mosiac Life Care Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. Through the gift of organ donation, Matthew has helped save the lives of others. Cremation is planned and a visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Sylvia M. Wallner, 97, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away September 10, 2021.

Sylvia was born January 6, 1924 in Stanley, Tasmania, Australia, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Muir) Horton.

She joined the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air-force) from 1942 to 1944. On a ship from Australia in 1946 she came to the United States of America and became a citizen five years later in 1951.

On May 15, 1959, she married Markus Wallner. The couple lived in St. Joseph all their married life.

Mark and Sylvia loved to travel. They took many trips to Las Vegas, two to Australia, and one to Germany. They also loved air shows and traveled to many around the country.

They had an amazing garden at their home and shared with the family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack; and husband of 57 years, Mark.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Merlene Jones of Plattsmouth, NE, Dianne (Dennis) Gillespie, of Omaha, NE, and Merle (Pat) Derry, of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Bert (Shirley) Horton of Tasmania, and Max (Judy) Horton of South Australia; and many nieces and nephews.

Joy was born July 11, 1932 in Pattonsburg, MO, to Dr. Jerome and Elsie (Ireland) McCulley.

She had worked for many years as the office manager for K-Mart in St. Joseph.&nbsp; Joy was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church.

Bill is a member of the Troy Christian Church and the Volunteer Fire Department of Troy. Bill was an entrepreneur, business man and farm owner, operating Triplett Produce Company and Triplett and Gaul Feed Lot.&nbsp;

He married Pat Dutton on December 21, 1948 in Troy, Kansas. She survives at The Willows in Wathena, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a son Russell Andrew “Drew” Triplett.&nbsp;

On June 24, 1924, she was born to Edgar and Vera (Shaffer) Taylor in St. Joseph, Missouri.

After graduating from Benton High School in 1942, she married John Walter Rejnin on January 11, 1946. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 1999.

She was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, Carnegie Culture Club and the Alpha Aletha Girls Club.

Carolyn enjoyed being outside and watching the beauty of nature. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the MU Tigers, KC Royals and KC Chiefs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Beverly Taylor; son, Michael Rejnin.

Survivors include daughters, Cathy Deal (Charles) of Mt. Vernon, Texas and Jo Duke (Tom) of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Carla, Rachel, Eva, Alice, Justin, Eric, Jennifer, Sarah, Rebecca; 17 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; three great-great-grandchildren.

Maria “Jody” Cary, 48, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 after a brief illness with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia.

On September 6, 1973 she was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to George and Betty (Kersey) Cary.

Maria was a proud graduate of Central High School Class of 1991. She attended Ashland United Methodist and Caring First churches. She was a volunteer counselor at Camp Galilee. Maria worked for many years at KQ2 and more recently, she was a Paparazzi Jewelry Consultant.

She will be remembered by many as a very caring, accepting person with a huge heart and a smile for everyone she met. Friends recall how she was available to so many in their time of need as a supportive listener. Maria could light up a room and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her sisters, Betty Ann Fisher (Greg) of St. Joseph, Kathy Meyer (Kelly) of Oregon, Missouri, Debi Ford (Terry) of Summerville, South Carolina; cousin, Annette Salsbury of Guilford, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Tinker.

Daniel Lee Schroff, 41, of St Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 in St. Joseph, as result of an accident. 

He was born August 13, 1980 in St. Joseph, son of Carol and Louis Schroff. He attended Lafayette High School. Danny owned and operated D&amp;D Handyman Services. He enjoyed fishing, building motorcycles and tacos. He loved spending time with his children. He had a great memory and was a great story teller, never met a stranger and loved helping others. Danny was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by father, Louis Schroff, step father, Richard "Teach" Sears, sister, Destiny Sears-Orcutt and brother, Harley Sears. 

Survivors include, wife, Ashley Schroff of the home, his mother, Carol Sears of St. Joseph, children, Rosemary, Grace, Carolann, and Adalyne, siblings, Jimmy, Scott, Sarah, Stephanieann, Dakota, Desire, and Deacon, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born April 20, 1925 in Albany, MO, son of the late Lenor and Elmer Cain. He served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the World War II. Russel was the owner operator of the Cains Garage. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, and he was of the Methodist faith. 

Russel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice Ann Cain, and sister, Dorothy May Haynes.

George K. Herbert, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021.

He was born September 27, 1952 in St. Joseph to Lester and Naomi “Dee” (Schwope) Herbert. He graduated from North Andrew High School in 1972.

George married Cynthia Jo Matthias on June 1, 1991. She survives of the home.

He was a member of the Laborers Union for over 40 years. George enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Missouri Tigers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bernie Gallagher, Danny Herbert, Richard Herbert, and Twila Seek; and his parents-in-law, Fred and Dorothy Matthias.

George K. Herbert, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021. He was born September 27, 1952 in St. Joseph to Lester and Naomi “Dee” (Schwope) Herbert. He graduated from North Andrew High School in 1972. George married Cynthia Jo Matthias on June 1, 1991. She survives of the home. He was a member of the Laborers Union for over 40 years. George enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, the Kansas City Chiefs, and Missouri Tigers. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bernie Gallagher, Danny Herbert, Richard Herbert, and Twila Seek; and his parents-in-law, Fred and Dorothy Matthias. Survivors include his wife; son, Jeffrey (Kelsie) Matthias of St. Joseph; daughter, Jessica (Stephen) Veach of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Brylie Matthias and Leo Veach; siblings, Dave (Shirley) Herbert, Ed Herbert, Terry (Brenda) Herbert, Geneva O’Callaghan, and Susie Jordan; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rick (Linda) Matthias, Doug (Kathy) Matthias, Greg (Suzanne) Matthias, Michelle (Bob) Linebach, Sheryl (Joe) Tumea, Nanny Matthias, and Lissa Boyd; numerous nephews and nieces. Angie R. McCollum, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 18, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Angie was born in Blockton, Iowa to Addison Volley and Mary Jane (Gloeker) Carroll. She spent most of her life in St. Joseph, Missouri but relocated in 2009 to Lakeland, Florida to be near her son.

She enjoyed flower gardening and decorating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin McCollum in 2001. Angie is survived by sons, Alan Fleenor of St. Joseph, Missouri and Marlon Fleenor of Lakeland, Florida; daughter, Trina Plummer of Savannah, Missouri; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Luzenia Charles of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mrs. McCollum has been cremated under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the St. Joseph East Side Lions Club because of their work with the visually impaired. There are no services or visitation. Private inurnment will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp;
