Dennis Wayne Taylor, 81, Iowa Point, KS native, passed away early Monday, October 12, 2020.

Dennis was born in Iowa Point, on November 16th, 1938, to the late Floyd and Hazel Randall Taylor.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by three brothers:&nbsp; William, Victor, and Ronald, and a step sister Linda Butrick.

He was married to Kathleen Bassford Taylor for sixty two years.&nbsp; They were blessed with three children:&nbsp; Wendy Taylor Veech, Michael Taylor, Colleen Taylor Nolting, three grandchildren:&nbsp; Westly Nolting, Ronald Nolting, and Cristal Veech; three great-grandchildren:&nbsp; William Veech, Anthony Veech, and David Nolting; brother Douglas Taylor of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dennis worked as an industrial electrician for the Denver &amp; Rio Grand, and later the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring the Rohr Corporation after over 20 years of service.

They retired to Kansas near the White Cloud area where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and to rejoin the extensive Taylor clan of White Cloud and Highland.

Memorial Graveside services are planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, October 15, at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.

William Knapp, 94, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020.

He was born April 4, 1926 to Harold and Marie (Frans) Knapp. William married Katherine “Katie” Reed, September 14, 1946. He was a manager at Carnations-Country-Store for twenty-eight years and after retirement he worked for the Department of Agriculture for eight-years. William was an avid walker, walking three miles a day with his walking buddies. He loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events; he was a Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals fan. William was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moila Shriners, Sertoma Club and Senior Legends Golf Club, Fairview golf course where he was inducted into the hall of fame in 2013

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include Wife of 74 years, Katie; daughters, Karen Brasses (Ward), Connie Cupryk (Dan); Grandchildren, Danielle Novascone (Dan), Scott Cupryk, Ryan Brasses; great-grandchildren, William and Ada Novascone, Sadie Brasses.

Richard Burge, 79, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020.

He was born April 19, 1941 to Stanford and Myrtle Burge. Richard married Linda Bish March 1, 1963. She survives of the home. He was a printer at the News-press for many years. Richard enjoyed traveling with family, capturing moments with his camera, staying active and always helping others. He was an adamant Los Angeles Dodgers fan. Richard was a member of Patee Park Baptist Church where he did everything except preach a sermon. He was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson Cyler Matthews and two sisters.

Survivors include Daughter, Kelley Matthews; Grandchildren, Drew Matthews Devin Matthews (Nicole), Tyler Fortune (Sara), Traci Grove (Kyle); ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, extended family and friends.

Carol Compton, 68 a St. Joseph resident, passed away Sunday October 11, 2020 at her home. 

Carol married Carl Compton August 27, 1970. She was a graduate of Lafayette high school in 1970. Carol was a well accomplished realtor for over 33 years. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Carol had two sons and two grandchildren she loved dearly. 

She is preceded in death by her mother Nellie Maddox.

Regina Mae Dombrowski, 88, of St. Joseph, died October 12, 2020.&nbsp; Regina was born May 2, 1932, in St. Joseph, to Joseph and Rose (Carol) Dombrowski.

She had worked at Barnard Uniforms as a salesperson and book keeper.

Survivors include a brother Ronald Dombrowski; two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Richard.

Miss Dombrowski has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; There will be no services at this time.

Virgil "Doc" Williams, 83, Savannah, Missouri; passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at Shady Lawn with his family by his side.

Doc was born on April 14, 1937 in Fillmore, Missouri to the late Reed Earl and Martha Opal (Hall) Williams.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Fillmore High School.

Mr. Williams worked in construction most of his life as a heavy equipment operator.&nbsp; After his retirement he worked for the Andrew Country Road and Bridge.

Doc was a member of the First Baptist Church.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Local #101, and taught in their apprenticeship program.&nbsp; He enjoyed music and playing guitar, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, working on the farm and above all spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Doc was married to Betty L. Bisig on July 25, 1954 and recently celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.&nbsp; She survives him of the home.

Additional survivors include children, Carey Williams (Tammy), Kim Bauman (Randy), Jeff Williams (Judy); daughter-in-law, Linda Williams; grandchildren, Kae Lewis (Chad), Cara Damgar (Jamie), Tawni Bross (Dave), Megan House (Johnny), Dustin Bauman (Emily); twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Williams and brother, Roger Williams.

Services 11:30 AM Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Frances, Evelyn and Joanne and brothers Earl, Joseph, James, George and John, nephew Eddie Clymens and nieces Melanie McCleave, Mary Lou and Kelly McCleave.

Survivors: Two sisters-in-law, Ethlyn and Barbara McCleave, one nephew Randy McCleave, five nieces, Annasue Wilson, Tammy Milbourn, Bambi Evans, Kathleen Lee and Michele Thomas, cousins and friends.

She was a homemaker and cosmetologist. Joann was a member of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed crocheting and going to casinos, as well as spending time with her family.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers and one sister.

He was born December 1, 1959 in St. Joseph, son of Janice &amp; Donald VanHoutan. He attended Central High School and worked at Falkner Plumbing for nearly 25 years. Ronnie enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Wanda Lorene O'Meara, 87 of St. Joseph, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2020.

Wanda was born October 6, 1933 to Raymond Martin and Lucille Spotts. Wanda was happily married to William O'Meara for many years. She was preceded in death by him.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by both parents; her only son, Melvin Reynolds; her two sisters, Dolores and Virginia and her brother Raymond.

Wanda is survived by her two daughters, Pam Talbott and Sharon Van Meter; step-children, Terry (Shirley), Kenny (Linda), Mike, Pat (Melody) O'Meara; &nbsp;grandchildren, Amber Butler (Thomas), William Reynolds (Jessica), Troy Russell (Angela), Tera Foster (Galen), Brett Talbott (Jennifer), Scott Van Meter (Jenny) and Ryan Van Meter (Jen); ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Mrs. O'Meara has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

At Wanda's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. She wouldn't want her loved ones to mourn her death. She would want everyone to celebrate her life. Geri enjoyed reading, was a Salvation Army volunteer in Atchison and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She was married to William J. “Bill” Lone on Sept. 27, 2000 in Leavenworth KS. Mr. Lone survives of the home. 

Additional survivors include two daughters, Diana (Mark) Servaes, Atchison and Denene Dale and Terry Scholz, Atchison, two brothers, Allan Pearson, Godfrey, ILL and Donald Pearson, Dorsey, ILL, a sister, Susan Dare, Tulsa, OK, five grandchildren; Courtney Servaes, Kelli Servaes , Danielle Galley, Megan Reiss, Jeramie Scherer and seven great grandchildren.

Sister Ann Diettrich, OSB, 80, a Benedictine sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kan., died Friday, Oct. 9, at the monastery. Services will be held at a later date.

Sister Ann was born in Evanston, Ill., on Oct. 13, 1939, one of four children of Ruth (Zeigea) and Henry Diettrich. She entered the Benedictines of Mount St. Scholastica in 1959 and made her final profession on Dec. 31, 1967. Her sister, Mary Ruth, was also a religious, a Sister of St. Agnes in Fond du Lac, Wis. With a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in early childhood education, Sister Ann served for thirty years as a primary and early childhood teacher in parish schools in Kansas and Missouri, as well as at Donnelly College’s childcare center. After taking chaplaincy training at Bethany Hospital, she served as minister of care for the sick and elderly in parishes in Kansas City. From 1990-2008, she served as oblate director for the Mount’s Kansas City, Kansas, oblate group. When she returned to the monastery, she was a chaplain in Dooley Center, the monastery’s health care facility.

Sister Ann was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother John Diettrich, and by her sisters Rita Lockwood and Sister Mary James Diettrich, C.S.A. 

She is survived by nieces and nephews and her monastic family.

Thomas Richard Lonergan, 64, Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020.

He was born April 17, 1956 to Bernard and Beverly (Jenkins) Lonergan. Thomas married Rebecca Ellen Frump August 28, 2012. He was an employee at the Missouri State Hospital for thirty years, then went on to work at the Haven Homeless Shelter. Thomas loved playing his ukulele and reading the Bible to the residents at Abbey Woods. He also played his ukulele for the Sunday school special education class. Thomas loved sports, he was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan; he also enjoyed golfing. Thomas loved his grandchildren dearly, and loved spoiling them. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, St. Joseph.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard Brandon, 88, St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

He was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Junction City, Kansas, to Arthur D. and Louis M. (Clark) Brandon.

Richard was the owner of a drywall construction company. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Eddy, and brothers John and Arthur Brandon.

Helen Good was the last of eight children born to Harry and Lucinda Berringer Strine in Waldo, Ohio where she grew up and graduated high school.

She married Bryon Good who served in World War II.&nbsp; After he returned from the War, he spent his working life teaching at Michigan State University in the Animal Science Dept. before retiring.&nbsp; He and Helen established a small family farm in the Lansing, Michigan area where they raised their family.

Their faith was a very important part of their life:&nbsp; They were charter members of University Lutheran Church at East Lansing, Michigan where they faithfully attended and raised their family

Helen died October 9, 2020 at Vintage Park in Hiawatha at the age of 100.&nbsp; She moved from Michigan to Vintage Park about 6 years ago to be near her family.

Survivors include her children George Good of Randchester, WY, Suzan Smith of Hiawatha, KS, and Sarah Cotton of St. Joseph, MO, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and husband Byron.

Her wish was to be cremated with her remains inurned next to her husband.&nbsp; The family will have a private service at Deepdale Memorial Park in Lansing, Michigan tentatively the end of October.

She was born August 30, 1929, to Clifford Everett and Minerva Ellen (Riley) Watts. Ruth married Maynard Vaughn Jr. June 1, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1988. She was a secretary/bookkeeper.Ruth enjoyed playing cards and reading.

Janice Nell Hedrick, 87, Merriam, Kansas, passed away Thursday October 8, 2020.

She was born March 20, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Richard and Florence (Boe) Mason. Janice married Gilbert Paul Hedrick December 2, 1956. He survives of the home. She received her master’s in music education from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Janice and her family are members of the Community of Christ Mission Road Congregation where she served as an Elder and was the choral music director and organist for 60 years. She was also a proud member of OFCC. She enjoyed long distance walks, charitable fund raising and playing the piano and organ. At the age of 60, she had her first skydiving experience. Janice walked her first Disney marathon at the age of 70 and was awarded a Disney Mickey Mouse Medal, and was the second oldest to finish the race. This experience became the catalyst to her organizing 12 annual Kansas City - area historical multi-day walks entitled “Because It’s There To Do” or BITTD. Her friends and family joined her on these walks as fundraisers for the Central Avenue Center of Hope of Kansas City, Kansas. She loved to participate in and watch sports, attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting activities, and also music recitals. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Always enjoyed family gatherings with games, great food, and laughter. Her family and grandchildren were the love of her life. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Grant; parents; and brother, Ronald G. Mason.

Janice Nell Hedrick, 87, Merriam, Kansas, passed away Thursday October 8, 2020. She was born March 20, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Richard and Florence (Boe) Mason. Janice married Gilbert Paul Hedrick December 2, 1956. He survives of the home. She received her master’s in music education from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Janice and her family are members of the Community of Christ Mission Road Congregation where she served as an Elder and was the choral music director and organist for 60 years. She was also a proud member of OFCC. She enjoyed long distance walks, charitable fund raising and playing the piano and organ. At the age of 60, she had her first skydiving experience. Janice walked her first Disney marathon at the age of 70 and was awarded a Disney Mickey Mouse Medal, and was the second oldest to finish the race. This experience became the catalyst to her organizing 12 annual Kansas City - area historical multi-day walks entitled “Because It’s There To Do” or BITTD. Her friends and family joined her on these walks as fundraisers for the Central Avenue Center of Hope of Kansas City, Kansas. Clarence “Tim” Streeby, 75, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020. 

He was born August 10, 1945 in Ottumwa, Iowa to William and Marjorie (Blanchard) Streeby. Tim married Sharon Wright July 9, 1983. Tim and Sharon have led a life full of love, good friends, and adventure. Tim’s first career was with ANR Pipeline where he took early retirement in 2001 and then went on to open a custom cabinet company called Streeby Classic Woods. Tim was a master craftsman who took great pride in his work. He spent countless hours working with his grandsons, teaching them invaluable skills and life lessons. His beautiful work and skill are proudly displayed in the homes of his family and friends.

Tim was passionate about living life and had many interests. He completed several mission trips for Samaritan’s Purse, volunteered his time and talent for the Noyes Home For Children “Take a Seat” auction, competed in several triathlon’s, hiked 223 miles along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path in Wales, was a bee keeper, a scuba diver and also an Enduro racer in his early days. Tim hiked to the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Long’s Peak, and summited Mt. Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. One of Tim’s favorite adventures was to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and he also hiked from Rim to Rim twice! He forced his wife and many family members and friends to participate in this activity. As a result, he had to rescue most of those hiking with him due to their lack of endurance! This may be why he kept going back. He had planned to continue this tradition with his grandchildren. Tim was a man of strong faith in Jesus Christ and family was very important to him. He will be greatly missed by so many. His family will forever be grateful that they were a part of his rich, unique, and accomplished life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother James Streeby, brother in law Jim Courtney, and brother of the heart, Paul Nold.

Additional survivors include children; Brad Streeby, Wendi Schank (Russell), Missy Streeby, Jennifer Hennessey (Jason); Grandchildren, Jordan Thomas, Cole Schank, Katey Steele (Nate), Riley Liles, Lance Streeby, Zoe Hennessey, Laci Hennessey, and Ian Liles. Leland Ray Markham 86, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at his home. 

He was born February 4, 1934 in Graham, MO, son of the late Sylvia and Henry Markham. He graduated from Graham High School and retired from Burlington Northern railroad as a brakeman. He loved Nascar racing, singing karaoke, and he enjoyed baseball and going to the St. Joseph Mustang games. The family would like to thank Mosaic Hospice for their kind and caring service for our dad. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and was a Christian. 

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife Dixie Markham, 2nd wife, Donna May Markham, son, Raymond Lee Markham, sisters, Lovella Neiderhauser, Wilma Byford, and Beatrice Smith, and his beloved dog Beamer. 

Survivors include, daughters, Barbara Sawyer-Behan, and Sherylynn McGuire of CA, nephew, Tom &amp; Raunda Long, niece that is more like a sister, Pat Morad, granddaughter, Ashley Fulton, grandson, Bryce Markham and several step children, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doris June Haywood, 80, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her home in Saint Joseph, Missouri surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on November 22, 1939 in Lynnville, TN to the late Ava and Jackson Fitzpatrick. She graduated from Central High School in Columbia, TN with the class of 1958. Two years later, on February 20, 1960, she married the love of her life John Wayne Haywood. For the next 60 years, she and her husband faithfully served the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee), pastoring congregations in both Nebraska and Missouri and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone they met.

Doris poured her life into her family. She loved to laugh and worked hard to capture memories and commemorate special moments. She opened her home to many friends and labored in prayer for her loved ones. Once her mind was made up about something, she was steadfast and unmovable, and her unwavering desire was that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would love and serve the Lord.

Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Ava “Big Mama” Riggins, her father, Jackson Fitzpatrick, her sister-in-law, Claire Riggins, and brother-in-law, Robert Stanford. Survivors include, husband, John W. Haywood; three sons, Gayron Wayne (Sydney) Haywood, St. Joseph, MO, Steven Lane Haywood (Jeanetta Dickerson), Ottawa, KS, and Jon Darren (Dana) Haywood, Caruthersville, MO; thirteen grandchildren including: Kari (David) Chairez, Ryan (Megan) Haywood, Alex Haywood, Ian Haywood (Sadie Jolly), Max Haywood, Stephanie Nelson, Ashley (Walter) Stufflebean, Cortney (Jacob) Bonea, Spencer Wayne Haywood, Steven Haywood, Spencer Jacob (Lauren) Haywood, Casey (Amanda) Haywood, Taylor (Brittany) Haywood; 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Thomas T.
