Janice Kay Hoye was born January 25, 1947, and passed away October 7, 2021. She passed away amongst family in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Sherman House Hospice Hospital from her battle with cancer. 

Janice is survived by her husband of 49 years, Steven E Hoye of New River, Az. &nbsp;Janice had 3 children: Yvonne Hoye (who died after birth,) Dustin Hoye of Little Suamico, Wisconsin, Nicholis Hoye of Tempe Arizona, and stepdaughter, Ellen Garrett of Inverness, Scotland. She also had 5 grandchildren, and 2 younger brothers: Jack Gould of Savannah, Mo. and Jay Gould of St. Joseph, Mo.

Janice was a devoted wife and mother, who also deeply loved her grandchildren. She was born in St. Anthony, Idaho to parents, Roy &amp; Margie Gould. They later moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, when she was still a young child, where she was raised, through her first years of college. Janice attended Lafayette High School and Missouri Western University. After college, she worked at Vendo, while living in Independence, Mo. Janice met her husband, and it was love at first sight. After only 6 weeks of dating, they were married in Miami, Oklahoma. Janice later worked with handicap children for several years, and finally as a Teachers Aid for gifted children until she retired.

Janice and Steven lived in Independence most of their life together, outside of a brief move to Englewood, Colorado, when the boys were young, for Steve's work in commercial construction. They returned back to Independence after a few years, where both Dustin and Nicholis were raised, through attending college. Janice and Steve later moved to Tijeras, New Mexico in 2004, and then to New River, Arizona in 2007, where they have been for the last 14 years. Janice loved cruise ships and traveling. She was fortunate enough to have visited 65 foreign countries and/or territory islands. Her favorite things to do were flying with her husband Steve both by plane and hot air ballooning. She also enjoyed going to the movies, attending dinner shows, and seeing shows in Las Vegas, NV. Janice was very active in her local bible study group as well. One of Janice's most treasured pastimes was visiting waterfalls and watching sunsets, whether they were over the ocean or during evening car rides in the convertible with her husband. She could strike up a conversation with anyone she met, as she was always a very caring and loving person. Janice will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Janice Hoye will be cremated at Hansen Mortuary in Scottsdale, Az. and transported to Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Mo. Visitation will take place on November 6, 2021 at 1:00-2:00 pm followed by grave site service. Janice will be buried at Armstrong Cemetery in Rushville, Mo. alongside her daughter, Yvonne. Ronald (Ron) Lee Schweizer left this world on October 16, 2021, at the age of 89 in his hometown of Amazonia, Missouri.&nbsp;

Ron was born to Pauline and Lloyd Schweizer on January 27, 1932. Ron attended Liggett Elementary School and was a 1950 graduate of Savannah High School. After graduating high school, Ron joined the Navy in 1952.&nbsp;

Upon leaving the Navy, Ron took over his family’s dairy farm north of Amazonia until he retired to become a US Postman. On August 21, 1959 he married the love of his life Eva Jean Totten. Together they raised their three children in Amazonia, Danny, Kim &amp; Craig.

Ron enjoyed his community and contributed greatly by building the Amazonia Ball Fields, assisting in the creation of the community building, and owning a local hardware store. He also enjoyed coaching many local softball teams. His favorite past time was sharing stories from his community. He also enjoyed yearly mushroom hunting adventures and sharing a laugh with anyone he met. He was a member of the American Legion, Saint John’s Church, Amazonia Lion’s Club and Andrew County Democrats for many years.&nbsp;

Ron was a family man and took pride in each of his loved ones. He is survived by his children: Danny Schweizer (Dianne), Kim Scanlan (Mike), and Craig Schweizer (Jodi); grandchildren Brandon Schweizer (Andrea), Michael Scanlan, Brooke Lehman (Hunter), Jennifer Scanlan, Lauren Schweizer, Makayla Schweizer, and Francesca Nellesen; 7 great grandchildren; and his sister Betty Fairbanks. Ron was preceded in death by his brother Larry Schweizer.&nbsp;

Ron will be honored in a Celebration of Life at the Amazonia Community Building on October 24th from 1-4.

Sandra L. (Hendrix) Potts of Savannah, Missouri passed away Saturday, Oct. 16 , 2021 at her home. She was born in Maryville, Missouri on May 14, 1957 to Jack and Mary (Williamson) Hendrix. She married Robert Potts on August 25, 1979.

Sandra enjoyed being outdoors, watching the KC&nbsp; Chiefs &nbsp;and spending time with her family and friends. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1979 and North Andrew High School in 1975.

She is survived by her daughter Kristy (Hendrix) Green (Jeff); sister Jackie (Hendrix) McGuire; brothers Larry Hendrix (Millie) and David Hendrix; grandchildren Jessica Hill and Kaitlin Hill; life partner Curtis Wampler; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Ed was born on Jan. 12, 1933, in Huron, Kansas the son of George Edwin and Wilda June (Carson) Behler. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1952. Ed served in the United States Army from 1953-1956. He worked as welder for Kansas City Power &amp; Light Company for 21 years retiring in 1994 as a foreman. After his retirement he worked as a finish carpenter doing remodeling in Atchison for several of the historic homes. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Ed was married to Bette Jean Luckett on Feb. 5, 1956, in Marana, AZ. Mrs. Behler preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2009. His parents, a son Justin Behler, two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.

Betty Louise (Sjobakken) Schultz, 89, passed away peacefully in Kansas City on Oct. 19, 2021 at North Kansas City Hospice House following complications from diabetes.

She was born near Ridgeway, IA on July 5, 1932. She married Myron Jack Schultz on Jan. 16, 1954 in Austin, MN, where they made their home. Betty worked many years in the Austin school district along with her husband who taught math.

Her life was remarkable for the fact that she was diagnosed with Type 1 insulin-dependent Juvenile Diabetes at age 2 yrs. She lived another 87 years carefully controlling this chronic illness before she developed her first complication which eventually took her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron J. Schultz; her parents, Arthur and Genevieve (DeGrave) Sjobakken; and a daughter, Lisa Ann, who died at birth.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Luerding; and four grandchildren, Lauren, Nickolas, Hannah (Harold) Greer, and Victor.

Iris M. (Carr) Heater Davison was born on October 29, 1931 in Nodaway County, Missouri to Ira and Edna (Coulter) Carr of Barnard, MO. She passed away on October 20, 2021 at Laverna Senior Living in Savannah, Missouri.

She married Benjamin R. Heater in 1956 and William F. Davison in 1987. Iris retired from Wire Rope Corporation of America in 1987 after 36 years. She loved bowling, and her flower garden. She enjoyed needlework, cheering for her beloved KC Royals and her Tuxedo cats.

She is preceded in death by husbands Benjamin R. Heater and William F. Davison, her parents, step mother Amanda (Pope) Carr, sister Ruth Lindsey, and brother Kenneth Carr.

She is survived by sister Marillyn Smith (Kelton) Liberty, MO and many nieces and nephews.

Iris M. (Carr) Heater Davison was born on October 29, 1931 in Nodaway County, Missouri to Ira and Edna (Coulter) Carr of Barnard, MO. She passed away on October 20, 2021 at Laverna Senior Living in Savannah, Missouri. She married Benjamin R. Heater in 1956 and William F. Davison in 1987. Iris retired from Wire Rope Corporation of America in 1987 after 36 years. She loved bowling, and her flower garden. She enjoyed needlework, cheering for her beloved KC Royals and her Tuxedo cats. She is preceded in death by husbands Benjamin R. Heater and William F. Davison, her parents, step mother Amanda (Pope) Carr, sister Ruth Lindsey, and brother Kenneth Carr. Lou Ann Warner, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

On August 3, 1931 she was born to James and Bernice (Way) Welsh in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Lou Ann married James Richard Warner on March 7, 1959. Together they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.

She was Football Queen at Central High School then graduated from Guards Business School. Lou Ann worked at Sisson Realty and Welsh Plumbing &amp; Heating. After his retirement, she worked with her husband as a dispatcher for Central Freight.

She was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and was the Greeter Chairman for the church for 45 years from 1972-2017. She volunteered with the United Way and at Heartland Hospital. She was also a member of the Runce Club. Lou Ann enjoyed walking at Youngdahl Park, gardening and house plants. She was a friendly soul that never met a stranger. She will be remembered for her warm smile and how she loved interacting with people.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include her son, James Welsh Warner; long-time caregivers, Mari Puente and Sharon Baber.

Janet Claire McCrory was born on March 18, 1928, in Kansas City, MO. She grew up in Mound City and graduated from high school in 1945. Next, Jan graduated from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) with a degree in Sociology in 1949.

She was in the Foreign Service and served as a Budget and Fiscal Officer in the US Department of State from the early 1950s until 1984. Her posts included The Hague, Indonesia, Israel, Argentina, Romania, China in the 1970s (before full-diplomatic relations resumed), Austria, Dominican Republic, and Saudi Arabia. She retired in 1984 and lived in Kimberling City, Springfield, St. Joseph, and Maryville, MO.

Jan is survived by sister-in-law Nancy McCrory of Maryville, MO, and sister Suzanne Nedblake (Greg) of Kansas City. She was preceded by parents Bill and Florence McCrory, brother Robert McCrory, and sister Kathleen Kleinkauf.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was a member of PEO, DAR, and NARFE, and Ashland Methodist Church.

Alice Lovelady 75, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday October 18, 2021 at her home. 

She was born March 24, 1946 in Denver, Colorado, daughter of Florence &amp; Charley Morriss. She graduated from Lafayette high school, and worked at Mead Products. 

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, son, Sonny Lovelady, and sister, Joyce Leslie.

Daniel David Smith 75, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Mosaic Life C are hospital brought on by his 4 month Covid battle. 

He was born January 5, 1946 in Independence, MO, son of the late Frances and Daniel Smith. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School, Class of 1965. Dan was a true patriot serving in the United States Army and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1968 - 1969, he then served for 28 years with the Missouri Army National Guard and volunteered during Desert Storm, serving at Fort Leonard Wood. He was a 22 year member of the VFW Post 6760 and was the Senior Vice Commander then Junior Vice Commander. He was a faithful Prayer Warrior, having special devotions to the Rosary, Divine Mercy, Saint Michael the Arc Angel, and Saint Joseph. He handed out awards to St. James School for the "Students for Patriots" essays. Dan was a faithful Catholic and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy, lector, communion minister, and singing in the choir. He was a member of the Guadalupe Men's Club at St. Patrick. Dan enjoyed helping with the Poppy Drives for Disabled Veterans, and also helped with the United Way drives. Dan enjoyed running in many charitable marathons. Most of all he loved his Catholic faith and spending time with his family. 

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Carol Sample. 

Survivors include wife, Phyllis (Bravo) Smith of the home, daughter, Erin Smith Schottel, sons, Eric Smith and David (Jennifer) Garcia, a sister, Mary Hertzlet, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2021 followed by the Funeral Mass of Commemoration at 10:30 AM at the Horigan Chapel, in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Father Jonathan Davis Celebrant. The Inurnment will follow the funeral mass with full military honors under the Auspices of the United States Army. Gene Laverentz, 76, of Overland Park&nbsp;&nbsp;passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at a Kansas City hospital.&nbsp;

Gene was born on June 15, 1945 in Bendena, Kansas&nbsp;&nbsp;to William and Ellenora (Ricklefs) Laverentz.&nbsp;

He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1967, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Husbandry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gene lived and farmed in Bendena until the late 80’s, he then moved to Garden City, then moved to Overland Park in 1998.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gene farmed and raised cattle early in his career and worked in sales most of his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gene is a member of the Advent Lutheran Church in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp;

He married Charlotte Russell on March 16, 1973 in Bendena.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives of the home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gene was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Gene Laverentz  1945 - 2021

Mickey Dean Branson, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021.

On November 11, 1952 he was born to Dillard and Thelma (George) Branson in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mickey married Linda Kay Lewis on August 26, 1972, they enjoyed 49 years of marriage. She survives of the home.

After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1971 he earned a degree from Missouri Western State University. For 26 years, Mickey was the manager at Thomas’s Market on the Avenue.

Mickey enjoyed playing the guitar, performing magic, computers and technology, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Bonnie O’Connell, Joy Ella Crowley.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Melissa Mollus (Benjamin); son, Blair Branson (Melissa); sister, Phyllis Blue; grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Austin Mollus, Silas and Layla Branson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mickey Dean Branson, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021. On November 11, 1952 he was born to Dillard and Thelma (George) Branson in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mickey married Linda Kay Lewis on August 26, 1972, they enjoyed 49 years of marriage. She survives of the home. After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1971 he earned a degree from Missouri Western State University. For 26 years, Mickey was the manager at Thomas’s Market on the Avenue. Mickey enjoyed playing the guitar, performing magic, computers and technology, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Bonnie O’Connell, Joy Ella Crowley. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Melissa Mollus (Benjamin); son, Blair Branson (Melissa); sister, Phyllis Blue; grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Austin Mollus, Silas and Layla Branson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Charles Sheldon Lyon, 85, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away October 15th, 2021.

Charles was born August 17, 1936 on a farm near Gower, Missouri to Charles Sheldon Lyon and Devona Maxine Spurgeon.

Charles married Anita Louise Allen September 1, 1957.

Charles was a printer by trade, working at the St. Joseph News Press and then at the Mead factory near downtown St. Joseph. He left Mead to run the print shop for the St. Joseph School District until his retirement. He served as president of the local chapter of the Graphic Communications International Union.

Gregarious, outgoing, quick with a joke, Charlie never knew a stranger and while he had many, many friends over the years, he prized his family above all.

Charlie loved to fish, he collected coins, and enjoyed growing flowers, especially fond of Orchids and Amaryllis. He was a faithful member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church.

Charles is survived by his wife Anita; his daughter, Tami Martin, and her husband Brent; his son, Sheldon Lyon, and his wife Christa; granddaughter Mackenzie Martin-Fisk, her husband Shayne Fisk, and their daughter Elise Ray; granddaughter Madison Edwards, her husband Blaine, and their daughters Kora and Addy; granddaughter Macy Lyon and her fiancé Dirk Beashore; and his sister Jan Powell.

He is proceeded in death by his sister, Joyce Brotherton.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream will be held Friday at 10 A.M. at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will gather with friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church.

Elmer "Butch" Lee Marshall Jr. 64, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his home after a lengthy illness. 

He was born September 29, 1957 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Madolyn and Elmer Marshall Sr.. He graduated from Benton High School and entered the United States Navy. He worked at Mead Products for 24 years, the State of Missouri, and the City of St. Joseph, in the road maintenance and sewer departments. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, boating, and he loved watching wrestling, he also liked to build things and was a great handyman. Butch loved spending time with his family and pets. 

He was preceded in death by father, Elmer Lee Marshall Sr., and brother, Larry Marshall. 

Survivors include, mother, Madolyn Louise Marshall, Saint Joseph, MO, son, Matthew Marshall (Brian Turner), Kansas City, MO, daughter, Amy (Derek) Armstrong, Saint Joseph, MO, grandsons, Hunter VanMarter, and Devin Armstrong, sisters, Teresa Siela-Kingsland, Lenexa, KS, and Cindy (David) Quirarte, Scottsdale, AZ, his long time partner, Robin Schneider of the home, and his dogs Foxy &amp; Eevee.

He was born August 25, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri son of Cora &amp; Robert Caples. He attended Benton High School. He worked as Truck Driver at BMS trucking. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert Owen Caples Sr., Charles Caples, and brother, Gary Caples, and a sister, Betty Zahner. 

Survivors include: wife, Gale Caples of home, son: Dennis Caples Jr., Dennis Moore, Ryan M. Collings, daughters, Chelsey, Stacy, Stephanie, Cody, Hannah Collings, and Tairyn Saunders, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sisters; Mary Lou Ferrier of St. Joseph, and Brenda Wright of Greer, SC.&nbsp;

Barbara Jean (Grocke) Smail, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021.

She was born April 27, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Raymond and Helen (Ulasy) Grocke.

Barbara married John Smail on November 9, 1968. He survives of the home.

Barbara liked to play cards, especially Pitch. She loved to bake and was known for her chocolate-chip cookies with walnuts and lemon-meringue pie. She loved to sing in the church choir, and enjoyed gardening and watching Katharine Hepburn movies. Barbara always dressed like a lady and liked to strike up a conversation wherever she went.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four aunts. Survivors include her husband; children, Linda, James (Sherry), Daniel (Cindy), Carol (Barry), and Kathern (Jonathan); 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

Janene Melissa Hunt 63, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday October 15, 2021 at her home in Saint Joseph. 

She was born August 8, 1958 in Tawas City, Iosco County, Michigan daughter of the late E. Marilyn &amp; O. Vance Kolosik. She married David Hunt on June 12, 1982. She graduated from Springville High School and St. Luke's school of nursing. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a Master Gardener, and an accomplished seamstress, a devoted nurse and caregiver for 38 years, church volunteer and a faithful follower of Christ. She was a member of the Wyatt Park Baptist Church. 

Janene was preceded in death by her parents. 

Survivors include husband, David Hunt of the home, son, Andrew (Liz) Hunt, Omaha, NE, daughter, Elissa (Simon) Yost, St. Louis, MO, grandchildren, Aliena, DeVontae, Zarah, Theo, and Landry, and a great grandchild, Messiah, four siblings: Daniel Kolosik, Melinda (Scott) Owen, Kristyn (John) Ryan, and Lyle (Becky) Kolosik.

A pillar of Highland’s community, William Howard Batchelder, passed away at the age of 76 after a lengthy illness on October 17th, 2021, in his home looking over the fields he tended and loved, surrounded by his loving family.&nbsp;

Bill was born in Fort Benning, Georgia to Howard Nelson Batchelder and Hattie Alice Smith Batchelder and raised in Highland, Kansas, the oldest of four brothers.&nbsp; Bill’s father passed away around Bill’s 15th&nbsp;birthday.&nbsp; With unusual selflessness at a young age, he accepted the heavy mantle of responsibility to help his mother raise his younger brothers.&nbsp; Bill managed his family’s dairy and grain farm for 60 years, even while graduating from Highland Community College and Kansas State University, ensuring his beloved brothers, Charles, Paul and Bobby, all attended college (all brothers are proud KSU alumni).&nbsp;

Bill watched his Final Harvest from his home over the last several weeks, culminating an incredible agricultural career.&nbsp; Despite a dairy farmer’s schedule, Bill found the energy and time to better his community:&nbsp; he served as a Highland School District Board member, Highland City Councilperson, and Highland Methodist Church board member.&nbsp; Bill was a true gentleman.&nbsp; Conscientious and well-read thanks to his life-long love of reading, he was a calming, principled presence to all who knew him.&nbsp; His love of community extended to local sports, and to mentoring young men who lost their own fathers.&nbsp; His greatest love was reserved for his children and grandchildren - ‘Papa’ left both a tremendous legacy and a heart wrenching vacuum for them.

Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Glenna (Zimmerman) Batchelder, and his loving children David and Rebecca (Darst) Batchelder of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Amy (Batchelder) and Jeff Handlin of Englewood, Colorado.&nbsp; His granddaughters Claire Batchelder, Amelia Handlin, and Ella Handlin were precious to Bill.&nbsp;&nbsp; His brothers and sisters-in-law mourn Bill as a father figure:&nbsp; Charles and Nancy (Johnson) Batchelder of Highland; Paul and Tricia (Fish) Batchelder of Louisburg, Kansas; and Robert and Kathy (Dunlap) Batchelder of Colorado Springs, Colorado.&nbsp; Bill was cherished by his extended family, and he leaves behind dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Iona Grace (Sterling) Lyon, 92, passed from life on October 16, 2021, at LaVerna Residential Care, Savannah.

She was born September 5, 1929, in St. Joseph, MO to William J. and Mary (Phillips) Sterling.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Iona married Glen Steve Lyon on September 16, 1948, in St. Joseph, MO.&nbsp;

Survivors include son: William (Sherry) Lyon; daughter: Susan (Glenn) Ballentine; brother: James Sterling; daughter in law: Debra Lyon; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Iona was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; parents: William (Mary) Sterling; sons, Terry Lee and Glen Wayne; brothers Leo and Richard Sterling.

Visitation October 20th&nbsp; 5-7 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Services 11:00 AM Thursday, October 21st &nbsp;at our chapel.

Margaret Christine "Peggy" Franklin, 85 of St. Joseph, died October 15, 2021.&nbsp; 

Peggy was born July 26, 1936 in St. Joseph to Robert K. and Mary Elizabeth (Hessler) Fulton.

Margaret Christine "Peggy" Franklin, 85 of St. Joseph, died October 15, 2021.&nbsp; Peggy was born July 26, 1936 in St. Joseph to Robert K. and Mary Elizabeth (Hessler) Fulton.Peggy lived over 50 years in California.&nbsp; She loved her flowers and gardening.&nbsp; Her entire backyard was a beautiful&nbsp; garden.&nbsp; She enjoyed traveling, and was a devout Catholic.She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Gloria A.&nbsp; Hull, Roberta E. Dawkins; late husband Robert Franklin; and nephew Lee Hull.Survivors include nieces and nephews, Suzie Modlin (Frank), Jim Dawkins (Daire) Lance, Kelly, and Layne Hull; numerous great-nieces and nephews.Mrs. Franklin has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.<figure>
