Jackie E. ‘Jack’ Hill, Sr., 64, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be 2:30 PM, Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sumner Cemetery, south of Atchison. Jack attended schools in Leavenworth. Jack worked many jobs throughout his life. Early on, Jack worked in construction and was a brick layer, he worked at Bromley Quarry and also Atchison Casting (Bradken) as a welder before working for AT Abatement Services, Kansas City, MO, as a laborer removing asbestos, lead paint, and mold. Jack was a member of the Local Steel Workers Union 1290 and retired from the union. Jack worked hard all his life providing for his family whom he loved. Jack was an avid raccoon hunter and enjoyed fishing, especially hand fishing. Jack was married to Glenda “Sue-Bee” Trumble and they later divorced. Jack and Lisa Navinskey were married on Oct. 10, 1985. Survivors include Jack’s wife of 35 years, Lisa; children, Jackie (Amber) Hill, Jr., Springfield, MO, Jessica (Ricardo) Rivera, Springfield, MO, James ‘J. W.’ Hill, Atchison, and Jonathan (Jennifer Vaughn) Hill, Lancaster, KS; four grandchildren, Jordan Hill, Jessie Hill, Colton Russell, and Aleah Rivera; sisters, Wanda Hensley, Parker, KS, Ruby Corbett, Leavenworth, KS, Donna Copeland, Atchison; brother, Jerry Hill; several nieces and nephews that he loved. He was born November 3, 1966 in St. Joseph, Missouri, Jim married Mary Stegall on April 6, 2013, and she survives of the home. He worked as a auto body repairman, and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. 

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Wesley Stegall. 

Survivors include: wife, Mary Stegall of the home, mother, Connie Peterson, St. Joseph, sons, Shane Stegall , Jim W. Stegall III, and Alec Parks, step son, Troy Knaebel, step daughter, Eliane Knabel, 6 grandchildren, and two sisters, Lynette Shanks, and Lisa Dalsing.

Ronald D. Sharp, 78, Cameron, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

He was born January 2, 1943 in Trenton, Missouri, to Glen and Melvina (McWaid) Sharp. He was raised on a farm between Galt and Spickard, Missouri.

Ronald attended Trenton Junior College and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College.

He married Gloria Johnston on April 17, 1964. She survives of the home. Ronald’s favorite part of his career was being the owner of a custom motorcycle business in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he built some of the first trikes. He and Gloria traveled all over the United State on motorcycles, logging at least 50,000 miles. He supported many biker organizations’ charities.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife; children, Terry, Barry, Karri, and Joanna Sharp; sister, M. Ruth Sharp; grandchildren, Adaira, Jessica, Zachary, Brad, Shelby, Tavyn and Rien; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mona Parsons, 65, of Rushville, MO, passed away on July 12, 2021.&nbsp; Mona was born August 20, 1955 in Council Grove, KS, to Philip and Delma (McDowell) Metcalfe.

She was a 1975 graduate of Atchison High School, and was Supervisor of Janitorial Services and mail clerk at Bradken of Atchison.

Mona married Mark Parsons on February 15, 1975, and he survives.&nbsp; Also surviving are their children, Michael Parsons (Michelle), Bridget Snodgrass (Aaron), Brandi Owens (Bobby); seven grandchildren, Dalton Parsons (Mikayla), Nichole Weigel (Brandon), Ashley Schuetz, Duncan Owens, Cassandra Schuetz, Morgan Parsons, Kasey Parsons; great-granddaughter Blake Parsons; her mother Delma McDowell; &nbsp;two brothers Edward Metcalfe, Edwin Metcalfe; two sisters, Grace Barker, Janice Weishaar (Jay); other relatives and a host of friends.

Mona is preceded in death by her father Philip Metcalfe and sister Barb Crouse.

&nbsp;She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.&nbsp; Above all, &nbsp;Faith and Family were her heart.&nbsp; She loved Jesus, worshiping him and spreading his word through discipleship.&nbsp; Mona had an undying and &nbsp;unwavering faith, was a Born-Again Christian, and was of the Baptist Faith.&nbsp; She&nbsp; loved gardening, watching her hummingbirds, traveling, beach time, and spending time with family and friends.

He was born January 23, 1991 in St. Joseph. Hayden was a Central High School graduate and attended Missouri Western State University. He was a pet care associate for Nestle Purina. He loved animals and got to share his love every day at work.

Hayden was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

William John Lewis (Jack) passed away July 11, 2021.

Jack was born February 25, 1930 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Earl and Dora (Whimbish) Lewis.

Jack served in the Air Force for 20 years.&nbsp; After retiring he continued in the Air Force reserve and as an insurance adjuster.&nbsp; He was a member of Renew Church and loved the Lord dearly.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Phyllis J. Lewis; children Doug (Bev) Lewis of Palm Bay, FL, David (Trish) Lewis of Lincoln, NE, Peggy (Stan) Nydahl-Praisewater of Vancouver, WA, and Becky (Mark) Crook of Knoxville, TN; stepchildren Gary Foutch of Bellevue, NE, Pamela Sacca of St. Joseph, MO, Carol (David) Bracken of St. Joseph, MO; sister Jean (John) Biggs and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John A. Gondring, 78, passed away on July 11, 2021 surrounded by family after living with Parkinson’s Disease for twenty years. 

Born in St. Joseph, MO, he was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Gondring, Jr. and Wilamina Ostwald Gondring. 

Survivors include wife, Maggie; daughter, Katy (Mark); son, Jack (Sarah); grandson, Benjamin; brothers, William H. Gondring, III, M.D. (Phyllis), and Robert P. Gondring (Charlene); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Following graduation from Park College, John entered the U.S. Navy. He served on active duty in Vietnam and then in the reserves for another 24 years, retiring as Captain in 1991. After earning his MBA at the University of Missouri-Columbia, John met his wife, Maggie, in St. Louis, MO, then moved to Omaha, NE, in 1975 to found Midland Scientific. John and Maggie married in 1976 and raised their children as members of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. In his retirement, John didn’t let Parkinson’s Disease define him. He continued an active and outgoing lifestyle of sailing, iceboating, playing tennis, gardening, volunteering at the VA with his dog Belle, participating as a member of the Big Red Sub Club, advocating on behalf of people with Parkinson’s, traveling and socializing with friends and family.

Rick was a proud member of the United States Navy.

Delmar E. Wehr, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri, was called away to his Heavenly Home Saturday, July 10, 2021.

He was born April 22, 1957 in St. Joseph to Delmar S. and Patricia (McPhelan) Wehr.

He worked at Menards for many years, developing many friendships that then became like family.

Delmar enjoyed barbecuing, smoking meats, Xbox, and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Austen, and four-legged sidekick, Samuel.

He was a very active member of Journey Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Cressie; and brother, David.

Survivors include daughter, Melissa Melgar (Jose); grandson, Austen Melgar; former wife, Debra L. McLain; siblings, Pam, Debbie, Janet and John (Debra); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; and his beloved dog, Samuel.

Delmar E. Wehr, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri, was called away to his Heavenly Home Saturday, July 10, 2021. He was born April 22, 1957 in St. Joseph to Delmar S. and Patricia (McPhelan) Wehr. He worked at Menards for many years, developing many friendships that then became like family. Delmar enjoyed barbecuing, smoking meats, Xbox, and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Austen, and four-legged sidekick, Samuel. He was a very active member of Journey Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Cressie; and brother, David. Survivors include daughter, Melissa Melgar (Jose); grandson, Austen Melgar; former wife, Debra L. Carol Jo McKinney, 80, of DeKalb, Missouri, passed away, Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

She was born January 21, 1941 in St. Joseph, daughter of Dora (Jacks) and Arvey Meade. She attended Benton High School. On December 5, 1964, she married Ronald McKinney in St. Joseph. Her hobbies included crafting, bird watching, and spending time with her family. She was also an avid fisherwoman, often out-fishing her husband, Ron and was a member of the Bass'n Gal's Fishing Club. 

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Gary and Darrel Meade, sister, Karen Marrott. 

Survivors include, husband, Ronald McKinney of the home, daughter, Rhonda (Mike) Adams of Easton, KS and a brother, Terry Meade.

Jack Hughes, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021.

On February 16, 1951 he was born to Vernon and Marjorie (Gess) Hughes in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

He married Vicki Eaton on March 14, 1970. She survives of the home. Jack worked at the Nebraska City Public Utilities and Colorado Ute/Tristate Powerplant in Craig, Colorado for over thirty years. He was a master wood worker and enjoyed hiking, fishing and the great outdoors. He will be lovingly remembered as a simple, brave, strong man.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include Vicki, his wife of 51 years; sons, Todd Hughes (Michelle) of Cape Coral, Florida and Robb Hughes (Winter) of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Lauryn, Logan, Brayden, Mason, Adelyn, Ethyn, and Selah Hughes; siblings, Judy Shown and Junior Hughes; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Linda Lou Simpson 66, of St Joseph, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at a St. Joseph health care facility.&nbsp; 

She was born May 29, 1954 in Benton Harbor, MI, daughter of the late Betty and Clarence Simpson. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School. Linda had worked at Drury Inn as a Housekeeping Supervisor. She loved the KC Chiefs, playing Bingo, and watching game shows. She also enjoyed staying active volunteering within the community. She was named Miss Chateau 2018 at Diversicare Chateau. Linda was also an active member at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. 

Preceding her in death are her parents, granddaughter, Jaybri, nephew, Shawn Fuller, and niece, Pam Ishmael. 

Survivors include: children, Chris Ishmael of St. Joseph, Kevin Ishmael of Indiana, and Stephanie Ishmael of St. Joseph, step-daughter, Jennifer Brown of Texas, brothers, Roger and Steve Simpson, grandchildren, Miranda, Mariah, Kenzie, Malayna, Jathynn, and Kaydrielle.

Terry Joseph Jimenez 66, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 on St. Joseph's Day, at a Joplin, Missouri hospital. 

He was born November 5, 1953 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Dorothy and Jose Jimenez. He graduated from Benton High School and Missouri Western State University. He worked for the City of St. Joseph as a Civil Engineer, reviewing and drafting blueprints and coding. He was an accomplished artist, and enjoyed painting, sketching, and drawing, He also enjoyed music and cooking. Terry was a Catholic. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Johnny Jimenez. 

Survivors include: sisters, Brenda (Douglas) Henderson, Mentone, CA., and Debora Jimenez, Saint Joseph, MO, and a brother, Mark Jimenez of St. Joseph, MO, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Stanley was a 1970 graduate of Lafayette High School and earned his degree from Missouri Western State College.

He married Barbara Logan in December 1974. She survives of the home.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Kay Granville, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021.

She was born September 2, 1949 in Bethany, Missouri to Harold John and Betty Louise (Davis) Hook.

Jackie married Edward Allen Granville on March 9, 1974. He survives of the home.

She worked for many years as an agent for Green Hills and R.L. Nichols insurance companies.

Jackie helped found and was Vice President of the Wicked Sisterz ladies riding club. She also was an excellent cook and taught all of her sons to cook.

She was dedicated to many causes near and dear to her heart. If she gave you her heart, she meant it.

She was preceded in death by her father; and brother, Michael Hook.

Survivors include her husband; mother; children, Travis Wisenski (Lilly), Jon (Sharon), Steven (Stella), and Jeffrey (Mandy) Granville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Gregory Hook (Donna); numerous extended family members and friends.

Graveside Farewell Service &amp; Inurnment 1:00 P.M. Monday, Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. Eugene Dwight Johnson, St. Joseph, Mo., died July 5, 2021, at Mosaic Medical Center. He was 83.

Gene and his wife, Joy (Burch) Johnson, were together 65 years. They were married June 2, 1957, in Superior, and they had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Johnson was a coach and teacher for 41 years. He coached and taught business, typing and physical education at Esbon (Kan.) High School from 1959-60 to 1962-63, at Republic (Kan.) High School from 1963-64 to 1965-66, at Lebanon (Kan.) High School from 1966-67 to 1980-81, and at Hillcrest High and Junior High School, Cuba, Kan., from 1981-82 to 2001-02.

Through four decades, he coached basketball, track, cross country and football, and his high-school boys basketball teams were consistent contenders. His Lebanon teams won a string of Pike Trail League and district championships. They were Kansas class 1A state champions in 1977 and runners up in 1973. His Republic boys track team won the state indoor title in 1965. He was a member of Kansas National Education Association, and he was honored by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

On weekends and summers, he and his family farmed and irrigated corn, soybeans and milo in Republic and Jewell counties in Kansas, near Republic, Courtland and Lovewell. In retirement, Gene and Joy were campsite hosts for seven seasons at Lovewell (Kan.) State Park, in northeast Jewell County, and they lived in Superior, Neb., before moving to St. Joseph. In Superior, he was a deacon at the First Baptist Church. An avid fan of University of Kansas basketball and University of Nebraska football, he attended his first KU game at Allen Fieldhouse with his grandsons when he was 80. In retirement, he grew tomatoes and shared hundreds of them with neighbors, friends and new acquaintances. He was born in rural Cloud County, Kansas, near Sulphur Springs, on Nov. 11, 1937. His parents, Harold and Mary Johnson, were also teachers and farmers, and Gene attended schools in Harlan, Scottsville, Ionia and Lovewell, Kan., with summers on farms near Miltonvale and Courtland, Kan. He graduated from Lovewell High School in 1955, Fairbury (Neb.) Junior College in 1957 and McPherson (Kan.) College in 1959.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Johnson, in 1981, and mother, Mary (Ming) Johnson, in 1995, rural Courtland, Kan.; his brother, Marion, Belleville, Kan., in 2019; and an infant son, Bradley, in 1959.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Joy; son, Ron (Barry Hall), and daughter, Cyndi (John DeBey), rural St. Joseph; by grandchildren Nate, Nick and Greg Johnson and Andrew (Randi) and Amanda DeBey; by great-grandchildren Samantha and Gage DeBey; by sister-in-law Kathy (Konovalsky) Johnson, Belleville, and nephews Bryan and Whitney (Shelley).

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Neb., followed by a reception at the Vestey Center, downtown Superior. Pastor Deb Hadachek, Cuba, Kan., will officiate the service. Services under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory.

Marjorie Ann Besette, 50, died July 6, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital on the plaza in Kansas City, MO. They had two daughters together Jordan and Jenna. She married Don “Pistol” Besette on June 30, 2006, together they are parents to a daughter named Kyllee. She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family and friends. Margie enjoyed gardening, crafts, candle making, camping, and collecting Chapstick. Margie was an organ donor and wanted to continue helping people. Margie is survived by her husband Don Besette; father, Jerald (Jerlyn) Gormly; daughters, Jordan (Brian) Wentz, Jenna Hord (Keith “Looney” Williams), Kyllee Besette and Seven Grandchildren. Janice B. Waltemath, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021.

She was born August 9, 1950 to John F. and Margaret (Giesken) Waltemath at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.

Janice was a graduate from Albany R-111 High School in 1968; Missouri Western in 1973 with a BA in Political Science and UMKC in 1976 with a MA in Political Science.

She was a member of the League of Women Voters and was a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral since 1976.

Janice enjoyed playing all card games, reading books, and nature.

She worked for the Division of Family Services from November 1976 until her retirement in September of 2003.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents in 1973 and 1978; brother, Phillip in 2007; nephew, Jason Waltemath in 2015; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include nieces and nephews in Oklahoma; cousins, friends, and her cats.

Roy Eugene Hartley, 63, Of Hiawatha, KS, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 2, 2021 In Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; He was lovingly surrounded by his 4 daughters, Stephanie, Monique, Sarah, and Adrianna.

Roy Eugene was born in Hiawatha, KS, December 2, 1957 to parents Lawrence and Helen (Halstead) Hartley.&nbsp; He was the fourth born child of seven children the parents had together. He grew up in the Hiawatha, Sabetha, Hamlin, and Morrill area, graduating from Sabetha High School in 1975. He was a rambunctious and ornery teenager most known for tearing up the streets of Morrill with his brothers, Gary, Bob, and Randy speeding around in their muscle cars.&nbsp; After school years and playground days, Roy worked at a dairy east of Morrill and several factories until finding his passion in construction for 40+ years.&nbsp; He became the owner/operator of his own contracting company, Roy Hartley Construction, from which he retired in 2018.&nbsp; Roy and his (late) wife Paula owned many rental properties around Hiawatha and took care of them together over the last 18 years.

Roy married Paula Schuetz in Hiawatha, KS, on August 21, 1999 in the presence of their children, parents, and friends in a private ceremony at the Hiawatha Lake.&nbsp; Paula was the salt to Roy’s pepper, the shimmy to his shake, and the only one who could honestly say they knew every nook and cranny of every aspect of him.&nbsp; They were two peas in a pod and as Roy would put it, “Paula was my one, my person, my soulmate!”&nbsp; They had a great love!

Roy participated in many things throughout his life.&nbsp; He helped start the soapbox derby races with the kids many years ago (his was even the one to beat for many years!), participated and ran the local pool league and dart league for many years, and enjoyed a good karaoke night at the Old Jayhawk Tavern!!&nbsp; In later years he found a love for antique furniture, woodworking craftsmanship, stoneware, and antique strollers.&nbsp; In recent years he came back to his love of classic cars from his younger years and shared that love with his brother Bob on regular nightly calls, photos, and playful competitions.

Roy is survived by 4 daughters: Stephanie Hartley of Hiawatha, KS; Monique and Richard Swimm of Hiawatha, KS; Sarah and Travis Cormier of Wetmore, KS; and Adrianna and Joel Havens of Silver Lake, KS; 2 sisters: Sharon Bestwick of Fairview, KS and Betty and Carl Clements of Kansas City, KS; 3 brothers:&nbsp; Gary and Sandy Hartley of Morrill, KS; Bob and Peggy Hartley of Branson, MO; and Randy Hartley of Fairview, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by 10 grandchildren:&nbsp; Hailey (24), Preston (21), Taylor (17), Blake (13), Desiree (3), Austin (18), Layla (12), Will (11), Jude (6), and Otto (3).&nbsp; He is also survived by an aunt, Ethel Allen of Seneca, KS and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Paula of Hiawatha, KS, his parents, Lawrence and Helen Hartley of Morrill, KS, and infant sister, Sandra, brothers Ivan and Melvin Hartley of California, and a niece, Melinda K Long Burton of Hiawatha, KS. &nbsp;

Roy C. Hartley  1957 - 2021

Lois M. Ackerman, 74, of Netawaka, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 at the University of Kansas Health System, St. Francis Campus, in Topeka.

She was born November 5, 1946 in Topeka, the daughter of Marion and Pearl Spiker Christy. She graduated from Goff High School in 1965.

Lois worked as a nurse’s aide at Merry Manor Nursing Home in Holton, and at various other nursing homes.

She married Delbert Ackerman on September 14, 1979 at Hiawatha. He survives, of the home.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Fulkerson, and a sister, Virginia Fulkerson.

Other survivors include a daughter, Waneta Ackerman, Netawaka; three brothers, Russell Fulkerson and Marvin Fulkerson, both of Goff, and Daniel Fulkerson, Holton; one sister, Janet Fulkerson, Topeka; her life long friend, Fay Downie, Marysville; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Aalayah Ackerman.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 8th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Netawaka Cemetery. Lois will lie in state after noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitaton will be from 9:30 until service time on Thursday. Lois M. Ackerman, 74, of Netawaka, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 at the University of Kansas Health System, St. Francis Campus, in Topeka.She was born November 5, 1946 in Topeka, the daughter of Marion and Pearl Spiker Christy. She graduated from Goff High School in 1965.Lois worked as a nurse’s aide at Merry Manor Nursing Home in Holton, and at various other nursing homes.She married Delbert Ackerman on September 14, 1979 at Hiawatha. He survives, of the home.Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Fulkerson, and a sister, Virginia Fulkerson.Other survivors include a daughter, Waneta Ackerman, Netawaka; three brothers, Russell Fulkerson and Marvin Fulkerson, both of Goff, and Daniel Fulkerson, Holton; one sister, Janet Fulkerson, Topeka; her life long friend, Fay Downie, Marysville; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Aalayah Ackerman.Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 8th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Netawaka Cemetery. Lois will lie in state after noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitaton will be from 9:30 until service time on Thursday.
