Elaine C. Siskey, 95, of St. Joseph, Missouri, having formerly lived in Sunflower, KS while her husband attended KU and Richmond, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care.

She was born August 9, 1925 to George and Violet (Maiden) Matthews in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Elaine married Rudolph “Rudy” Siskey, her Lafayette High School sweetheart on August 12, 1947.

She and her husband loved traveling the world after their retirement. She was an accomplished artist. She and Rudy met monthly for lunch with members of their 1943 Lafayette graduating class.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years; her parents; brothers, Emerson and Charles Matthews, and their wives; and her niece, Cindy Fleming.

Survivors include son, Chip Siskey (Peggy) of Platte City, Missouri; daughter, Janie Simon (Rod) of Sahuarita, Arizona; grandchildren, Christoper Simon (Christy), Kyle Simon (Dana), Alex Breitenbach (Elissa), Emily and Elizabeth Siskey; great-grandchildren, Eric and Kellen Simon; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Anderson; five nephews and two nieces.

Martin “Marty” Marks, 59, Bigelow, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021.

He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 27, 1961 to Robert and Judith (Brubaker) Marks.

Marty married Michele Humphrey on June 1, 1985. She survives of the home.

He was a wildlife biologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation for 35 years.

Marty was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Boone and Crockett Club. He also enjoyed fly-tieing.

He was a loving, caring husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Marty was always willing to help others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert.

Survivors include his wife, Michele; son, Zachary; daughter, Mackenzie; mother, Judy; and brother, Merle Marks (Becky).

Calvin&nbsp; L. Hair, 67 of Savannah, Mo, died April 2, 2021 at his home after a lengthy illness.&nbsp; Calvin was born October 17, 1953 in Ransom KS to Orville and Willa (Snodgrass) Hair.

He was a graduate of Ranson High School and Cleveland Chiropractic College.

He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1986 to 1990 and was honorably discharged.&nbsp; He owned and operated Hair Chiropractic Clinic in Plainville KS; retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Savannah United Methodist Church and the Savannah Lions Club.

He married Jeanette Sommer on January 1, 1998 in Oregon, MO, and together they moved to Savannah in 2012.

Preceding him in death was his wife Jeanette in December of 2020, his father, infant sister, and a granddaughter.

Survivors include children Matthew Hair of Wichita, KS, &nbsp;Christopher Hair of Lawton, OK, Lisa Jordan and husband MJ of Emporia, KS, Alaura Leff of Wichita, KS, and Patrick Crain and wife Karine of Overland Park, KS; his mother Willa Hair of Hays, KS; six grandchildren; two brothers Melvin Hair and wife Loretta of Brownell, KS; &nbsp;Arlan Hair and wife Ellen of Pratt, KS; a sister Juliana Wagner of Ness City, KS; sister-in-law Alda Sommer of Oregon, MO; &nbsp;other relatives and friends.

Calvin enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.&nbsp; He loved to help out the local 4-H Club with their projects and was a mentor and friend to many.

He was born April 28, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri, son of the late Marjorie &amp; Richard Ingram. He married Linda Stufflebean on June 2, 1972, and she survives of the home. He graduated from Lafayette High School, and he worked at Wonder Bread and retired after 33 years of service. He enjoyed drinking tea and watching TV, dancing, going to the Savannah Speedway, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Eagles Arie #49 and he was a Catholic. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Roy and Ed Ingram.

She married Chris Silkwood on November 22, 1980, and he survives of the home. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended Abundant Faith Church of God. 

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Dorothy George. 

Survivors include, husband, Chris Silkwood of the home, daughter, Candy (Chris) Silkwood-Prudden, sons, Preston Silkwood and Roger Henkosky Jr., 5 grand daughters, Kaileigh, Amber, and Erika Cox, Raven Larabee, &amp; Laci Shoemaker, grandson, River Phinney, sister, Kathy Jones, brother, Danny (Sally) Carr, and numerous, nieces and nephews.

Jackie W. “Jack” Riddick, 83, Agency, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 in Winter Haven, Florida.

He was born November 1, 1937 in New Survey, Missouri to Van Buren and Willie B. (Dial) Riddick.

Jack married Donna L. Kerns on May 9, 1959. She survives of the home. He was the owner of Riddick Trucking and had previously worked as a sales rep for multiple food sales companies and at Praxair of Kansas City. Jack also was a 32nd-Degree Mason.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers. Survivors include his wife; son, Jeff; daughter, Jodi Hollingsworth (Michael); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Murphree; two brothers-in-law, Donald Kerns (Kathy) and Curtis Kerns; two sisters-in-law, Joan Jones and Doris Riddick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia (Nagle) Hamilton of Liberty, MO formerly of St. Joseph, passed away March 31, 2021 at Liberty Hospital.

She was born in St. Joseph, MO, August 26, 1921 and graduated from Central High School in 1939.

Virginia resided in Liberty, MO since 1963 and was employed for 16 years at United Cooperatives in Liberty, MO for in the bookkeeping department.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Albert and Sylvia Nagle and her husband, Clyde J. Hamilton in 1991.

She is survived by her son, Craig &amp; Nancy Hamilton of Excelsior Springs, MO; granddaughters Haley Keller &amp; husband Matt of Kearney, MO; Alicia Moore &amp; husband James of Lee's Summit, MO and one step-grandson Jason Hutkai &amp; wife Melissa of Smithville, MO and one step-granddaughter Jennifer Hutkai of Phoenix, AZ and seven great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Mrs. Hamilton has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Berman Boyd Max Stephens, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

He was born September 17, 1944 in Maryville, Missouri to Bernard and Mary Ellen (Findley) Stephens.

Max married Carolyn Steidel on June 15, 1963. She survives of the home. He was a union drywaller for Brandon Brothers Drywall and numerous companies in Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. He also worked in auto repair and painting, working at Chafen Body Works, Karle Carriage Works and Schuller’s Auto. In 1982, he bought his own auto body and paint shop, Car-Max, later known as C-MaxZ, which he owned for over 35 years.

Max enjoyed going to auto shows and races. He loved his pets and spending time with his family, especially Sunday dinners and monthly birthday parties. He also enjoyed laughing at TikTok videos of Curious George.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; son, James C. Stephens (Michael); daughter, Kimberly Simmons (Tyrone); granddaughter, Shamarla Pointer (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Rilee, Raylin, and Roean Pointer; cousins, Brenda Juhl and Debbie Meyer; numerous nieces and nephews; life-long friends, Phil Saverino, Larry Smithers, and Bobby Cabean; and his beloved dog, Johnny Cash.

Mary F. (Crowley) Rhyne, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021. She was born June 4, 1940 to Eugene and Irene Marcella (Hoard) Crowley, Sr. in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mary was always fashionable and loved her shoes. She enjoyed shopping and garage sales. She was well known for her cooking. She was a member of Hope Fellowship Church. Mary was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her brother, Eugene Crowley, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Rita C. Simms, of Longbeach, CA; and companion, Marvin Dodd. She will be remembered by numerous family and friends. Inurnment at Whispering Pines Cremation Garden at St. Joseph’s Memorial Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Billy Joe Allen 47, of Garner, Iowa, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in St Joseph. 

He was born May 19, 1973 in West Des Moines, Iowa, son of Billie and James Allen. He graduated from Marshalltown High School, Marshalltown, IA, and he worked at Deffenbaugh. Billy enjoyed working on small engines, watching football, especially the KC Chiefs, and spending time with his granddaughters. 

Billy was preceded in death by his father, James Allen, mother, Billie McGrew, and brother, Tim Allen. 

He is survived by wife, Stephanie Allen of St. Joseph, daughter, Heather Daniels of St Joseph, brothers, John Allen of Garner, IA and James "Cris" (Connie) Allen of Sigourney, IA, and granddaughters, Alycyn Griffin and Lucian Wolfe.

Harlan Dee Bauer was born May 12, 1946, and passed away March 27, 2021, at the age of 74.&nbsp; Harlan was born in Humboldt, NE, along with his twin brother Arlan, to Roy and Stella (Krenzel) Bauer.&nbsp; Like his siblings, he attended school in surrounding areas.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1964 from Powhattan High School.&nbsp;

Harlan’s siblings included, Donald (Lamonia), John (Leona), Harold (Carol), Darrell (Sara), Darlene Covert, Esther (Virgil) Koerperich, and twin brother Arlan (Debbie).&nbsp;

Harlan started work with Reece Construction Co, Scandia, KS, while he was still in high school.&nbsp; He worked under the supervision of his brother Harold (PeeWee) Bauer.&nbsp; After graduation he became a member of the Army National Guard in Hiawatha, KS.&nbsp; He was drafted to Vietnam in 1968 with the 25th&nbsp;Infantry Division.&nbsp; In 1969, Staff Sergeant Harlan Bauer was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.&nbsp; He was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in the Republic of Vietnam. &nbsp;In 1969, he returned to his home in Hiawatha, Kansas and returned to work with Reece Construction.&nbsp; Harlan retired from Reece Construction Co. as a Superintendent in 1987.&nbsp; In 1988, Harlan started his employment with the City of Hiawatha.&nbsp; He retired from the City of Hiawatha as the City Water Department Manager in 2010. He was a member of The Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, KS.

Harlan adored his parents, cherished his siblings, and loved his nieces and nephews with all his heart.&nbsp; His dedication to his nieces and nephews was immeasurable.&nbsp; He was a strong influencer in the lives of his 27 nieces and nephews, 70 great-nieces and nephews, and 43 great-great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; And yes, he knew them all by name and by their birthdays, never missing an important event, and always there to lend advice and love.&nbsp; He was a second father to them all, and he will be dearly missed and honored by them all.&nbsp; He was a man that exemplified 1 Thessalonians 4:11; “… aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we have instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders…”

Harlan’s fascination for baseball was passed down to him from his father.&nbsp; In turn, he passed the love of the game to his extended family, especially by his following of the St. Louis Cardinals.&nbsp; Many games were watched at home, many games watched at the stadium with nieces and nephew tagging along, and many caps were worn celebrating his St. Louis Cardinals.&nbsp; Memories that will never be forgotten.&nbsp;

A celebration of Harlan’s life is planned for 10 am Saturday, April 3, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, KS. Pastor Mike Dunaway will officiate.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, with military honors a courtesy of Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Harlan D. Bauer  1946 - 2021

Raymond “Ray” E. Johnson, 92, died Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri after a brief illness.

Born September 13, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, he was a long-time resident of St. Joseph, Missouri. He served in the United States Army toward the end of World War II, returning to the Midwest to complete his architectural engineering degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. While completing his education, he met Doris M. Bucy; they were married on March 1, 1952, and enjoyed 52 years together.

He spent his lifetime in the construction industry, culminating as a founding owner and President of System Builders, Inc., in St. Joseph, Missouri, retiring in 1996.

Ray was an active member of the Lutheran Church, then the Baptist Church, where he married Dorothy M. Harland on March 25, 2006. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church prior to his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Johanna (Sommervold) Johnson; his sister, Connie; and his wife, Doris.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. (Harland) Johnson; three daughters, RaeAnn, Deanne, and Ellyn Johnson; son, David Johnson; grandchildren, Chad Johnson (Randi), Jason Johnson (Julie Wiethaupt), Laura Sapp (Raul Perez), Eryn Noble (Scott Smith), Johannah Miller, and Courtney Nugent (Michael); 9 great-grandchildren, Chase, Fiona, Wyatt, Stella, Echo, Reese, Jack, Connor, and Emily; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born August 1, 1982 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Cathy and Brian Starr. Survivors include, his parents, three sons: Dylan, Gage, and Ja'Kobi Grippando, grandson, James and brothers, Jeremy Starr, and Brian (Candice) Starr and his companion, Danielle Dakon.

Esther Ann Ocejo Scheerer, 63,&nbsp; entered the gates of Heaven on March 28, 2021.&nbsp; She was born on August 30, 1957, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Abelardo and Dorothy Ocejo.&nbsp; She graduated from Raytown High School in 1975 and graduated with honors from Metropolitan Community College with a degree in Deaf Studies and an Associate in Applied Science.

She was united in marriage to Robert Scheerer on February 11, 1978 at Gregory Boulevard Church of Christ in Raytown, MO.&nbsp; They have two children, Kenneth and Kimberly.&nbsp; Esther worked for several school districts (St. Joseph, Maryville, and Platte County) as a Sign Langauge Interpreter. She retired from Platte County School District in 2017.

Esther enjoyed the outdoors.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends.&nbsp; She was a devoted Chiefs fan.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her grandkids.&nbsp; Anything between helping with homework, cooking, baking, crafting and playing games.&nbsp;

Her most favorite was cheering them on during their many sporting events and school functions.&nbsp; She was a very caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.&nbsp; She was always there to lift us up and gave wonderful advice.&nbsp; Her strong will made her victorious at anything she did.&nbsp;

Eshter is survived by her husband Robert Scheerer of the home.&nbsp; Her children Kenneth Scheerer, Kimberly Scheerer (Curtis Myers), Sister Nancy Pippin (Don), dearest friend, Janet David, sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Rake (Tony), Nadine Scheerer, grandchildren, Skyleigh Scheerer, Trinity Martin, Serina Martin, Braelyn Myers and great-granddaughter Marcella; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Katrina Roxanne Smith, 50, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in her home in Savannah, Missouri.

She was born August 22, 1970 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Luther H. and Delores J. (Dudley) Schroeder.

Katrina married Ricky LeRoy Smith on August 25, 2004.

She loved children and animals. She was always very caring, always had a listening ear, in addition to being loyal, optimistic and family-oriented. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Ricky L. Artis Ferene (Babcock) Burton went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2021.

Artis was born in St. Joseph, Missouri July 21, 1943 to Edna (James) Babcock and Erle Babcock.

She attended Humbolt Grade School and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1961.

Artis married Donald O. Burton on October 30, 1965.

She was a long-time active member of the St. Paul UMC and worked at the Shangrila Motel, Methodist Hospital, although she worked the most of her time (25 years) at Ashland United Methodist/Mother’s Day Out Program. She loved spending time with family, working with children, doing all sorts of volunteer work throughout the years, reading and VISITING (Talking).

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald O. Burton (2003); brothers, Lee R. Brown, A. Lloyd Brown, William (Bill) Babcock; sister, E. Gayle Blake; and son-in-law, Kirby Ham.

Survivors include son, Donald L. Burton of the home, St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Patricia A. Ham, of Union Star, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of loving friends.

Shirley L. (McClanahan) Stathem was born on March 12th, 1928 to John and Flora McClanahan in St. Joseph, MO. On July 6th, 1956 she married the love of her life, Frank E. Stathem. And on March 22nd, 2021, Shirley met Frank in heaven when she passed away in her home in Raymore, MO. She was 93.

Shirley was a pillar of the Stathem family. She was loving, strong and independent. She enjoyed creative hobbies, such as painting, drawing and quilting. Together, Frank and Shirley enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and attending church on Sundays. Shirley was a socialite whose cheerful personality was sure to make her friends wherever she went. Shirley recently celebrated her 93rd birthday with her daughter, Erin, when she described life with a smile and a laugh, saying “Time flies when you’re having fun!”.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, John and Flora McClanahan; her husband, Frank Stathem; daughter, Ann Marie Wilkins; and brother, Richard McClanahan.

Survivors include her son, Ross Stathem (Joyce); daughter, Erin Armstrong (Kevin); cousins, Bob and O.L Cook; niece, Stephanie Cook; as well as 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Lucille (Riedel) Turpin Wilke, 94, of Troy, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021.&nbsp;

She was born on a farm near Leona, Kansas on April 12, 1926 to John and Katherine (Mattucks) Riedel.&nbsp;

She was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bendena, Kansas.&nbsp;

Lucille married Edgar Turpin on December 26, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1968. On April 20, 1978 she married Richard (Dick) Wilke. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Melvin Riedel and a sister, Dorothy Nigus.&nbsp;

She is survived by two sons; Harold (Pam) Turpin, Kent, Washington, John (Dennise) Turpin, Troy, Kansas, two daughters; Donna Streib, Hiawatha, Kansas, Janie (Jerry) Johnson, Troy, Kansas, two step-sons, Alan (Deb) Wilke, Lake Alfred, Florida, Larry (Lisa) Wilke, Emporia, Kansas, two step-daughters; Margie (Claude) Miller, St. Joseph, Missouri, Peggy (Julian) Nelson, Troy, Kansas; nine grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 12 step-great grandchildren and one on the way.&nbsp;

She was born January 18, 1957 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Robert and Shiori (Ikeda) Snyder.

In November of 1974, Katherine married Maurice “Maury” Glenn Hughs, Jr. They were blessed with three sons.

She graduated Lafayette High School in 1975 as a member of the Lampion Honor Society and pompom squad. She enjoyed working at First Street Graphics for 23 ½ years and later enjoyed substitute teaching for the St. Joseph School District. She was a member of the Wyatt Park Christian Church. Katherine made many friends as a part of the United Brethren Youth Church Camp.

Katherine never met a stranger and enjoyed traveling to visit her grandchildren. She lovingly taught her children that being there for the ones you love is far more important than being on time.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband; and brother-in-law, Neal Frakes.

Survivors include her mother; siblings, Sharon and Ronnie Snyder; sons, Bob (Jennifer), Matt and Kory (Enid) Hughs; grandchildren, Kylee Skaggs, Dylan, Aubrey, Evan, Owen, Landon and Elly Hughs, with two more on the way; great-granddaughter, Avery Skaggs; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews around the world; dear family friend, Bob Morton; and her beloved pets.

Survivors include her mother; siblings, Sharon and Ronnie Snyder; sons, Bob (Jennifer), Matt and Kory (Enid) Hughs; grandchildren, Kylee Skaggs, Dylan, Aubrey, Evan, Owen, Landon and Elly Hughs, with two more on the way; great-granddaughter, Avery Skaggs; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews around the world; dear family friend, Bob Morton; and her beloved pets. Healing Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Katherine S. Hughs  1957 - 2021

William Lyle Hahn, 73, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 at his home. 

He was born August 10, 1947 in Cameron, MO, son of Edna and Harry Hahn Sr. He graduated from Cameron High School. Following graduation, he joined the US Navy. After 4 years of service, he moved back to Cameron and helped on the family farm until moving to St. Joseph in 1988, and he began working for the City of St. Joseph until retirement. Bill loved life, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gatherings at his home on the lake, and you could always find him outside working on his yard or flowers, which were his pride and joy. He was a member of the Lake Contrary Development Association. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Helen Marie Hahn, his parents, brothers, Harry Hahn, Jr. and Alfred Hahn, brother-in-law, Jay Sandgren, sister-in-law, Pat Hahn, and nephew, Richard "Rick" Sandgren. 

Survivors include, daughter Cherisse (Todd) Steiner of Amity, MO, step-daughter, Tam (Mike) Reed, of Dearborn, MO, step-son, Joseph "Bud" (Kimberly) Potts of Cameron, MO, brother, Dale (Barb) Hahn of Kansas City, MO, sister, Alice Sandgren of Fairport, MO, sister, Linda (Paul) Scherer of Liberty, MO, 9 loving grandchildren, Dakota, Dallas, Kayle, Tyler, Kari, Kait, Emily, Tye Dale, and Isabella, and 7 great-grandchildren, Avery, Carson, Connor, Lauren, Payton, Piper, and Blakely. Bill was also blessed with a special connection with his great-grandnieces, Harper and Georgia West, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Bill has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials are requested to the Lake Contrary Development Association or Friends of the Animal Shelter.&nbsp; &nbsp;
