Louise M. MacKernan 92, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in a Savannah, MO., health care center. 

She was born October 11, 1928 in Hodge, MO, daughter of late Elmie and Henry Epperson. She married Raymond on March 14, 1946 and they shared 73 years together before he passed away. Louise was a homemaker and devoted, wife, caring mother and grandmother. She loved and lived her whole life for her children. Louise loved talking to people and enjoyed babies, animals, flowers, and music, and was a member of the Trinity United Brethern Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond A. MacKernan, son, Raymond E. MacKernan, infant son, Larry MacKernan, brother, Norman Epperson, granddaughter, Marlene MacKernan- Heath, and grandson, Tommy Tatro.

Jim was born September 23, 1948 in Des Moines, IA, son of Eathel and James Sloan. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines, IA. He married Eldora "Dorie" Farthing on June 2, 1975. Jim worked as a Painting Contractor. He was a kind, caring and hard working man who spent his life providing for his family. In 1992, his daughter Debra Martinez passed, and Jim took on raising her 4 children. 

Exactly 22 years prior to the day he passed, he lost his son James "Jimbo" Sloan III. Jimbo has called him home. James was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Sloan, sister, Carolyn Chiles and grandson, Baby Brett Young.

Mary Ann loved to socialize, and she made friends everywhere she went. She had a wonderful laugh and a great sense of humor. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed the church family, and her Bible Study classes. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 1175 Auxiliary, Atchison and the WELC (Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church). She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and University of Kansas Basketball and Kansas City Chiefs Football. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved spending as much time with them as possible. She was married to Edwin Arthur McBratney on Oct. 27, 1951, in Bentonville, AR. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1996. Survivors include her children Rae Ann (Dave) Lackey, Cathy (Mike) Crockett, Edwin McBratney, Jr; grandchildren Amy Coles, Sarah (Brian) Mosiman, Eric (Emily) Lackey, Tony (Lilli) Lackey, Christopher (Tricia) Ricklefs, Ashley McBratney, Stephanie McBratney, Tricia Clark and 15 great grandchildren. He was born December 22, 1997 in St. Joseph to Robert Lee Watson and Carrie Coleen Roberts.

He loved to work on motorcycles, ride motorcycles, and play video games with his brother and family. He loved animals, especially his pitbulls.

Luke’s favorite pastime was basketball, both playing and watching it.

He was an amazing person who had a big heart and would do anything for anyone.

Dwight “Ike” Morrow, 88, died peacefully surrounded by family at his home in St. Joseph on Monday, July 19, 2021.

Dwight was born on November 17, 1932 in Alanthus Grove, Mo. to Oral and Fern Morrow. He married Marilyn Miller on April 16, 1955. She preceded him in death on May 28, 2017. Dwight was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Doyle, Lavurl, and Dwain Morrow; sisters, Shirleen McQueen, Wanda Morrow; and a great-grandchild.

He served in the U.S. Army. Dwight was a technician with Airway Furnace. He owned Morrow Heating &amp; Cooling until his retirement. He was a 56-year member of the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and Moila Temple Wrecking Crew.

He is survived by daughters, Sharon Scroggins, Karen Sprague-Coil (Lonnie), Elaine McCrary (John), and Lisa Morrow; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Michael “Mike” D. Hofmeister, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021.

On September 17, 1951, he was born to Donald and Marge (Stowell) Hofmeister in Kansas City, Kansas. He grew up in Prescott, Iowa where his parents owned the local grocery store.

Mike married Diane Landrus on November 6, 1971, in Maryville, Missouri. She survives of the home.

He was a hard worker, always providing for his family. After years of driving a route, Mike retired from Nuway Rentals in 2000.

Mike will lovingly be remembered as the “Old Hippie.” He enjoyed making people laugh and his favorite attire was, flannel shirts, Hawaiian shirts, bellbottoms and moccasins. He loved attending the musical events of his kids and grandkids. Mike loved animals and treated everyone like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and brother.

Survivors include his wife; children, Jeff (Tracy) Hofmeister, Jenna (Larry) Whittington, Mary Hofmeister; grandchildren, Andrew (Kaitlyn), Cameron (Lauren), Morgan, Katie, Riley Q, Elijah, Landrus Michael; a great-grandson on the way; brother, Monte (Jan) Hofmeister; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved grandpuppies.

Rodney Allen Helton 52, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away Saturday July 17, 2021 at his home. 

He was born August 27, 1968 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and graduated from East Buchanan High School. He worked at All American Contracting as a Escavator, and concrete finisher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, float trips, bust most especially having family cookouts, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Helton, mother, Sharon Helton-Shove, and 1/2 sister, DeDe Helton. 

Survivors include: son, Bradley Helton (Elizabeth Wilson-Johnson), daughter, Shyann Helton both of the home, son, Corey Helton, Kansas City, MO, brothers, Rickie (Kris) Helton, Leroy Helton, and Ronnie Helton, 5 grandchildren, Michael, Miamor, Colton, Hunter and Remi, and former wife, Pamela Helton.

Rodney Allen Helton 52, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away Saturday July 17, 2021 at his home. He was born August 27, 1968 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and graduated from East Buchanan High School. He worked at All American Contracting as a Escavator, and concrete finisher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, float trips, bust most especially having family cookouts, and spending time with his grandchildren. Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Helton, mother, Sharon Helton-Shove, and 1/2 sister, DeDe Helton. Survivors include: son, Bradley Helton (Elizabeth Wilson-Johnson), daughter, Shyann Helton both of the home, son, Corey Helton, Kansas City, MO, brothers, Rickie (Kris) Helton, Leroy Helton, and Ronnie Helton, 5 grandchildren, Michael, Miamor, Colton, Hunter and Remi, and former wife, Pamela Helton. Richard "Rick" Ray Johnson, 71, of St Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born November 18, 1949 in St. Joseph, son of Mary and Albert Johnson. He attended Benton High School and worked in construction for many years for himself. Rick was a former Golden Glove Boxer and a trainer. He was also an avid fisherman and mushroom hunter and often enjoyed having some adult beverages with his friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald and Clarence Johnson, infant sister, Connie Johnson. 

Survivors include, wife, Kimber Johnson of the home, son, Darcy Johnson of St. Joseph, brothers, Mike (Terri) Johnson of St. Joseph and Ralph (Cindy) Johnson of Wichita, KS, sister, Clara (Bobby) White of St. Joseph, grandsons, Shawn and Jordan Johnson, granddaughter, Harley Allday and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary Rex Huffman, 60, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021.

He was born February 24, 1961 in St. Joseph to Charles Jewell and Moneta Mae (Kenerson) Huffman. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1979.

Gary married Ann Colleen Farley on December 5, 1980. She survives of the home.

He was a respiratory therapist at Mosaic Life Care for 35 years. Gary loved fly-fishing and music. He loved his family and friends. His sense of humor and caring nature were appreciated by all who knew him. He was a longtime member of Word of Life Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Stephen (LeLinda) and Patrick Huffman.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; children, Aubrey Sedlacek, and Abram Huffman; grandchildren, Landon, Ali and Nolan; siblings, Marvin Huffman (Donna), and Shirley Shanks (Michael); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Dennis Leroy Moss, Jr., 48, Elwood, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021.

He was born July 13, 1973 in Iowa City, Iowa to Dennis Leroy Moss, Sr. and Kathy Marie (Smith) Moss.

Leroy graduated from Bedford (Iowa) High School, where he participated in football, baseball and band. After high school, he worked for his father’s woodcutting business, then became a firefighter for the City of Elwood.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his grandsons. Survivors include his parents; children, Scott Allen Emery, Dakota Moss, and Mariah Moss; two grandsons, Kingston and Kaiden Payne; sister, Shonda Matney (Jeremy); and uncle, Gary Moss (Judy).

She enjoyed target shooting, tinkering in the garage with her husband and was a loving wife, mom, and grandma. She was married to Steven Surritt on September 25, 1982, in Las Vegas, NV. Matilda "Mattie" Louise Blank  1928 - 2021

Patricia Sue Bruning, 88, of Hiawatha, KS, formerly of rural White Cloud, passed away at the Amberwell Hiawatha on July 17, 2021.

Patty was born Dec. 3, 1932 in Horton, KS the daughter of Leonard and Essie Bushey Shear and was a lifelong resident of this area where she attended schools and graduated from Robinson High School with the Class of 1950.

She married Jere Bruning of White Cloud, KS on Dec. 16, 1951. They were blessed with four daughters:&nbsp; Lu Ann, Jane, Mary and Sara.&nbsp; Patty and Jere raised their daughters on a farm near White Cloud and enjoyed all the activities the girls participated in. After several years of farming, they retired to Hiawatha to make their home.

Patty was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed making quilts. She had a great wit and always had a smile.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Shirley Hickman and Ruth Ann Spiker.

Patty is survived by her husband Jere of Hiawatha, daughters Lu Ann (Dennis) Korthanke of Port Orchard, WA, Jane Byers of Louisburg, KS, Mary (Bill) Pfeffer of New Berlin, IL and Sara (Jim) Weast of New Berlin, IL.; seven grandchildren: Laurie (Matt) Allen, Jacob Byers, Jeffrey Byers, Emily Pfeffer, Jill Pfeffer, Megan (Nathan) Finster and Molly Weast;&nbsp; 2 great grandsons: Logan and Lincoln Allen.

A celebration of Patty’s eternal life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Zion United Methodist Church, northeast of Robinson, with Pastor Darlene Sheffer officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Cheryl Ann Moutray, 72, El Paso, Texas, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away July 14, 2021.

On October 6, 1948 she was born to Charles, Jr. and Elsie (Pope) Moutray in St. Joseph, Missouri.

She was a hard worker. Cheryl was a hairdresser for over 25 years, went to college at Missouri Western State University, then worked for the State of Missouri, later retiring as a Director of Recreational Therapy at Fort Bayrad, New Mexico.

Cheryl enjoyed horses, gardening and sports. She was a fan of the KC Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dorothy Irene Johnson, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021.

She was born October 25, 1928 in St. Joseph to Henry and Esther (McRay) Lonjers.

She worked as a psychiatric aide at the State Hospital for more than 25 years.

Dorothy liked to travel and after retirement spent summers camping with Good Sams and Midwest Camping clubs and winters in Texas where she had many close and valued friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Eugene Johnson of 19 years, Norman Beers of 39 years, and Bill Jennings of three years; children, Darrell Laverne Jennings and Gregory William Jennings; stepdaughters, Louis Marie Older and Jean Ann; siblings, Mable Stanislaus, Mary Turner, Della Juanita Adams Seiter, Minnie Goben, Chester Lonjers, Charlie Lonjers, George Lonjers, Arthur Lonjers, Francis Lonjers, Zena Miller, Helen Perry, and Ralph Allen Lonjers.

Dorothy I. Johnson  1928 - 2021

&nbsp;Thomas Calvin Younger, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri, left this earth July 15, 2021, at his home.

Tom was born December 7, 1925 in Easton, Missouri to George and Hannah (Boyer) Younger.

Mr. Younger was a dental technician for eight years with Premier Dental Lab in St. Joseph, Missouri and was a supervisor in the Bio Production Department at Boehringer Ingelheim retiring with 34 years of service. On January 17, 1948, he married Beverly Jean Bartholomew, who was the love of his life. They were married 64 years until her death on October 24, 2012.

He was drafted and inducted in the U.S. Army in July 1944 at Fort Leavenworth just a few short months after his high school graduation. He was part of the replacement forces after June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion. Tom served in Troop B 32nd Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized. He fought the following campaigns; Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes Offensive Battle of the Bulge. During these campaigns he earned the American Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars; European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon; WWII Victory Medal; One Overseas Bar; and Rifle Expert. He received a Tech 5 battlefield commission. He started in Normandy and ended in Berlin.

He was a member of Frances Street First United Methodist Church, 50-year member of Charity Zeredaith Lodge No. 189, 50-year member of Scottish Rite, and a member of Moila Temple. Tom was very much an outdoor person and loved hunting with the dogs he raised early in his life. He was an avid golfer and played until the last few years.

Tom was also preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Oland Younger; sisters, Georgia Green and Susan Clevenger.

&nbsp;Thomas Calvin Younger, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri, left this earth July 15, 2021, at his home. Tom was born December 7, 1925 in Easton, Missouri to George and Hannah (Boyer) Younger. Mr. Younger was a dental technician for eight years with Premier Dental Lab in St. Joseph, Missouri and was a supervisor in the Bio Production Department at Boehringer Ingelheim retiring with 34 years of service. On January 17, 1948, he married Beverly Jean Bartholomew, who was the love of his life. They were married 64 years until her death on October 24, 2012. He was drafted and inducted in the U.S. Army in July 1944 at Fort Leavenworth just a few short months after his high school graduation. He was part of the replacement forces after June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion. Tom served in Troop B 32nd Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized. He fought the following campaigns; Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Ardennes Offensive Battle of the Bulge. During these campaigns he earned the American Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars; European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon; WWII Victory Medal; One Overseas Bar; and Rifle Expert. He received a Tech 5 battlefield commission. He started in Normandy and ended in Berlin. He was a member of Frances Street First United Methodist Church, 50-year member of Charity Zeredaith Lodge No. 189, 50-year member of Scottish Rite, and a member of Moila Temple. Tom was very much an outdoor person and loved hunting with the dogs he raised early in his life. He was an avid golfer and played until the last few years. Tom was also preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Oland Younger; sisters, Georgia Green and Susan Clevenger. Michele “Flaherty” Huff, age 57, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends at her home in Savannah, MO, on July 15, 2021.

Michele was born May 28, 1964 in Britt, Iowa to Larry Flaherty and Linda “Michelson” Barton. She graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School in Iowa in 1982 and from DMACC in Ankeny, Iowa with her associates degree in nursing. She later graduated from Missouri Western University in St Joseph, MO with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Michele was a devoted caregiver for her family and professionally devoted her life as a nurse for over 40 years. She was also an active member of the Savannah United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She was a bicycling and camping enthusiast and enjoyed traveling with her husband and family.

She married Douglas Huff on July, 20, 1985 in Wesley, Iowa. They had three children: Alyssa, Mallarie, and Collin. And more recently welcomed 4 grandchildren: Henry, Grace, Llewyn, and Leonard. Michele loved being known as “granny” to her grandkids, to whom she devoted endless love and care.

Michele was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Cathy “Helm” Flaherty.

Survivors include: husband Doug, children Alyssa Gibson (Tyler), Mallarie Schafer (Joe), and Collin Huff (Alyssa Bryan), mother Linda Barton (Bob), father Larry Flaherty, brother Michael Flaherty (John Chaplin), niece Brianna Flaherty (Chase Rohrbaugh), grandchildren Henry, Grace, Llewyn, and Leonard - as well as countless friends and extended family.&nbsp;

Michele will be cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel.

Kathy (Carr) McCauley, 66, of Kansas City, MO, died Thursday, July 15, 2021 at her home.&nbsp; Kathy was born July 24, 1954 in St. Joseph, MO, to Elmer and Rose (Conant) Carr, but lived in Agency, MO.

She was a stay at home mother and then worked as a Department Manager for Wal Mart; retiring in 2010 to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Kathy married Bo McCauley on September 21, 1972 at Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Bo; &nbsp;their children, Lisa McCauley, Joseph McCauley (Zanah) Amy LaFollette (Philip); eight grandchildren, Elly, Jimmy, Molly, Jenna, William, Rosie, Kaylee Lou, Elise; siblings Janice Geary (Rex), Susan Tietjens (Donnie) William Carr, Barbara Lauritzen (Chuck), Laura Engnell, Thomas Carr (Jennifer); sister-in-law Marilyn Carr; brother-in-law Gene Komer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Holly McCauley, &nbsp;Les McCauley, Dennis Jobes,&nbsp; Bonnie and Buck Buglewicz, Sandy and Danny O'Donnell, Cheryl and Jay White, Scott and Tara McCauley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Kathy was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Liberty.&nbsp; She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.&nbsp; She was a great cook, loved to garden, flowers and watching birds.&nbsp; She &nbsp;loved to travel, and loved her family.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed taking trips with her grandchildren, and her trips "across the pond" to Europe with her sisters.&nbsp;

Rick Eldon Dorrel, 67,&nbsp;&nbsp;died unexpectedly while working for Todd &amp; Sargent in Canada. Rick was born October 2, 1953, to Eldon and Doris Dorrel, of Bolckow, MO.

He graduated from North Andrew High School in 1971.

&nbsp;Rick married Paula Rosenbaum November 15, 1975. They raised three daughters.

&nbsp;Rick was a great husband and father who always made time for his family. He was loved for his sarcastic&nbsp;smart@$$ sense of humor and billiards skills. He worked at Varco Pruden in St. Joseph for 16 years.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Rick was preceded in death by his Grandparents Huffaker, Grandparents Dorrel and brother-in-law Rick Williams.

Marcena (Parsons) Herring, 88, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp;

Marcena was born on September 21, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri to Carol Puderbaugh Lewis.&nbsp;

She attended Rock Creek and West Port High School in Kansas City.&nbsp;

Marcena married James S. “Jim” Herring on April 9, 1950 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her mother and sister, Doris Stuart.&nbsp;

Cheryl Ann Moutray, 72, El Paso, Texas, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away July 14, 2021. On October 6, 1948 she was born to Charles, Jr. and Elsie (Pope) Moutray in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a hard worker. Cheryl was a hairdresser for over 25 years, went to college at Missouri Western State University, then worked for the State of Missouri, later retiring as a Director of Recreational Therapy at Fort Bayrad, New Mexico. Cheryl enjoyed horses, gardening and sports. She was a fan of the KC Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include children, K.C.
