Mary Louise Sowers, 81, of Country Club, MO formerly of Atchison, KS died on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, the Altar Guild, served as a Kennedy Evangelism Caller, a Stevens Minister, attended Adult Bible Class and Team Classes, and was an organizer for the Craft Fair. She was an avid Chiefs, KU Jayhawk, and Royal’s Fan. She was proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed animals and her cats. Mary was a compassionate care giver to anyone in need.

She was married to Robert “Bob” Sowers on May 26, 1979, in Farley MO. Mr. Sowers survives of the home. Bonnie Lou McMurry, 89, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in a Saint Joseph health care center. 

She was born April 25, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of the late Velma and Ed Heriford. She grew up in south St. Joseph, always living close to the Carnegie Library. As a teenager she worked at Bradley Pharmacy and the Rialto Theater. After graduation from Benton High School in 1950, she worked at Swift &amp; Co. in the office. She married Thomas McMurry on February 12, 1955. They shared 66 years of marriage. Later she worked at the Stockyards for Scotty Murray at Lamborn-Murray-Davis Livestock Commission Co. as the bookkeeper. She was a member of CAJ “a friendly group of girls”, for 75 years. The group started as teenagers and grew up together as family. She and Tom loved to dance and they were both wonderful dancers. She was a very good bowler for most of her life and she loved to golf with her friends at Fairview. She was a member of the Unity Church. Bonnie was a chocolate lover. She would have Tom drive her to Russell Stover’s and she would buy boxes and boxes of the leftover holiday candy and take it everywhere to give away to her friends, hairdresser, doctor, etc.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Amanda Frye, sister, Barbara Keener, and sister-in-law, Benny Montemore.

She is survived by her husband, Tom McMurry, St. Joseph, MO daughter, Jodie (Mark) Frye, St. Joseph, son, Jeff McMurry, Palm Springs, CA, grandson, Jake Frye, St. Joseph, great granddaughter, Kara Franks, brother-in-law, Robert (Karen) Keener, Rancho Mirage, CA, sisters-in-law, Charlene Musser, St. Joseph, and Betty Wendt, Houstonia, MO.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday, August 10. There will not be a memorial service. She will be cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home with a private burial at Memorial Park located by her granddaughter at a later date. Joyce Poling, 64, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021 in St. Joseph. 

She was born August 22, 1956 in King City, MO, daughter of Julia and Dale Jarvis. She attended school in Helena and lived in the Rural Savannah area during her younger years. Joyce married Roger Poling on August 24, 1990 in St. Joseph at Souls Harbor Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed her late night rides with her husband Roger, spending time with her grand kids, attending garage sales and scratching lottery tickets. Joyce also often enjoyed a beer in one hand a joint in the other, eating ice chips, dancing at stop signs and salt on everything she ate or drank. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

He was born May 24, 1961 in St. Joseph to Edgar and Virginia (Paxton) Way. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Class of 1979. He coached several teams in the North End and was an active member of the community.

Mark married Lisa M. Hontz on August 2, 1985. She survives of the home.

He was much loved and will be dearly missed.

Linda M. (Reno) Foster, 81, St. Joseph, died peacefully, Wednesday, August 4, 2021, surrounded by her family. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence (Randy) and Elsie (Montemayor) Reno, brothers, Don Reno, Raphael (Cookie) Reno, and granddaughter, Tonya Long.

She is survived by 5 children: Ray (Sue) Foster, Tamara Foster, Chris Foster, Marty (Evelyn) Foster and Roy (Butch) Foster. Siblings: Tillie (Richard) Morrow, Kathy (Don) Tanner, and Larry (Kathy) Reno. Linda was a proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She attended St. Patrick’s Grade School, and Sacred Heart Convent. Early in her life, she did runway modeling for several retail stores in the city. She became a cashier at Thomas’ Fruit Market, and later at Safeway from which she retired.

Linda enjoyed being with her family and all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She loved them dearly. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and loved praying the Rosary.

On January 11, 1920 she was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to James and Ora (Stewart) Heckel.

She was a cook at the State Hospital for over 35 years.

Flossie was a member of the VFW Post 5531 in Wathena, Kansas. She enjoyed bingo, going to the boat, needlepoint and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer Lee “Red” Dunlap; children, Alice Collins, Marvin “Sonnie” Locklin, Margaret “Maggie” Locklin, Homie Dunlap; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors are his children Mark B. Beems, Jr (Cindy), Ashley Marie Beems, Lisa Ann Phillips (Donnie); grandchildren, Nichole, Hayley, Mark Ryan, Karyzma, Avore, Ivley, Tyson, Justin, Donna, Tony, Starr, Chevy, Alyna, Savannah, Beau Tyler, Tristan and Kali; several very special great-grandchildren; and step-sister Janette Johnson.

Mark retired from the City of St. Joseph as a master mechanic.&nbsp; He most enjoyed riding motorcycles with his son and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ava Maxine Kephart, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

She was born September 28, 1935 in Easton, Missouri to Marvin and Alice (Heath) Anderson.

Ava married Charles Allen Kephart on November 10, 1956. He survives of the home.

She was known for her huge garden, from which she canned a lot. She sewed most of her children’s clothing as well.

Ava was a longtime member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. She had a gift of hospitality and ministered to others by having them join her family’s dinner after church. Her faith was of utmost importance to her, her husband next, then her children. In that priority, she served God. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin daughters, Alicia Grace and Marcia Mae; and brother, Ralph Anderson.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; children, David Kephart, Laura Mather (Jeff), and Heather Sykes (Martin); grandchildren, Clayton Mather (Breanna), Caleb Mather (Baylee), Isaac Sykes and Allison Sykes; and a sister, Iona Creamer of Rockford, Illinois.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Ava Maxine Kephart, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021. She was born September 28, 1935 in Easton, Missouri to Marvin and Alice (Heath) Anderson. Ava married Charles Allen Kephart on November 10, 1956. He survives of the home. She was known for her huge garden, from which she canned a lot. She sewed most of her children’s clothing as well. Ava was a longtime member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. She had a gift of hospitality and ministered to others by having them join her family’s dinner after church. Her faith was of utmost importance to her, her husband next, then her children. In that priority, she served God. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin daughters, Alicia Grace and Marcia Mae; and brother, Ralph Anderson. Survivors include her husband, Charles; children, David Kephart, Laura Mather (Jeff), and Heather Sykes (Martin); grandchildren, Clayton Mather (Breanna), Caleb Mather (Baylee), Isaac Sykes and Allison Sykes; and a sister, Iona Creamer of Rockford, Illinois. Mr. Cornelious “Corn” Bernard Anderson, Jr., 20, Elwood, Kansas, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2021.

He was born Aug. 25, 2000 in Stone Mountain, Georgia to Cornelious Bernard Anderson, Sr. and Sharonda Alicia Byrd.

Corn was a 2019 graduate of Riverside High School, where he was an assistant to his teachers and participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He previously attended Highland Community College, studying sports medicine.

He was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and very active in his church, First Baptist Church, in Elwood. There he played drums, sang in the choir, was on the dance ministry, and worked the audio/visual system.

Corn was a kind, courteous, respectful, loving soul with a smile that would light up the world. He was preceded in death by brother, Cayviaan Mobley; paternal grandparents, Glady and Prince Anderson, Sr; great-grandparents, Deacon Jimmie and Claudine Byrd; and cousin, Darnell Byrd.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Hazel M. Davison, 85, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at her home in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Hazel Married Carson Davison on June 12, 1951 in Hiawatha, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons, Carson L. Isaac M. “Ike” Chase, 79, of Severance, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, at his home.

Ike, as he was known by family and friends, was born at Rushville, MO, May 1, 1942, the oldest of two children of the late Isaac “Jake” and Octavia “Jean” Burdette Chase and has lived in Doniphan County a lot of his life.&nbsp; The family moved to the Doniphan County area where he grew up, attended Severance grade school prior to graduating from Midway High School with the class of 1960.

After high school, he enlisted with the U.S. Army where he served a tour before being discharged.&nbsp; Ike returned to Doniphan County area and did odd jobs including driving a truck a few years before moving to Brownsville, TX, where he opened an auto body and paint repair business which he operated for over 20 years.&nbsp; He returned to Severance in 1993 to help care for his elderly mother and even did some auto body repair/paint repair for folks here.

Ike served the Severance community by volunteering for the Fire Department where he served as chief for a time.

Survivors include his children Barbara Johnston of McAllen, TX, Christina Chase-Roy and Robert Chase, both of Brownsville, Cindy Wright of Missouri, a sister Delilah Chase of Severance, and a number of grandchildren.

It was his wish to be cremated and buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Severance.

Richard Wayne Williams, 69, of Highland, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 surrounded by family.

&nbsp;Richard was born August 12, 1951 in St. Joseph, MO to John and Hazel (Sothers) Williams.&nbsp; Richard attended Central high School.&nbsp; After High School he attended Hillyard Technical College, and managed a McDonalds. His most passionate job was his work and dedication at the Quaker Oats Company for 32 years.

On October 23, 1982 Richard married Judy Kinkead, together they brought 4 children into the mix Richard and Sarah Williams and Suzie and Angie Kinkead.

After retiring from Quakers, Richard worked for the Doniphan County Road and Bridge.&nbsp; Richard enjoyed being with his family, hunting and fishing.&nbsp; A yearly return to Estes Park with Judy to watch the elk, and take more pictures and videos than Marty Stouffer, was a favorite vacation.&nbsp; Richard was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Hiawatha, KS.&nbsp;

Richard was preceded in death by his parents John and Hazel Williams, in-laws Howard and Thelma Rodecap, son-in-law Mike Smith and granddaughter Tiffany Neil Cordy.

&nbsp;He is survived by his wife of 39 years Judy of the home, children Richard (Crash) Williams (Susie), Sarah (Jeff) Chamberlain, Suzie Smith, Angie (Rick) Eberly. 8 Grandchildren:&nbsp; Richard Williams III, Shane and Mason Chamberlain,&nbsp; Dakota (Jake) Latimer, Jordann Smith, Cooper Eberly, Crystal (Dustin) Drennen, Josh (Kelsi) Neil, and 7 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are his siblings:&nbsp; John (Kristy) Williams, Arthur (Susie) Williams, Karen Foxworthy, Caroline (Steve) Parnell, Debra (Mike) Hendrix, Douglas Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was Judy’s best friend for 39 years, and a friend to many, many more and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

William “Bill” Evans, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 31, 2021.

He was born January 2, 1932 in St. Joseph. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy and was a member of the VFW Post No. 359.

He married Betty Lou Haak on November 27, 1970. She survives of the home.

He worked at Modern Cleaners for many years.

Bill played steel guitar for many bands in the area, most notably in Rulo, Nebraska. He enjoyed game shows and country music. Bill loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and numerous siblings. Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Kathy, Cindy, Lisa, and Karen; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janice Water (John); numerous nieces and nephews, including Teresa Chase (Carl), Susan Coy (Mark), and Bud Welch; extended family and friends; and his beloved dog, Lola.

Wesley “Scott” Minor was born April 25, 1929, to Wesley and Nondas Minor in St. Joseph, Mo.

He married the love of his life, Gloria Ann McDonell, in 2002. They had a beautiful and loving marriage with many happy memories together, sometimes acting like lovestruck teenagers up till his last breath.

Additional survivors include his sister, Joyce and her husband, Herb Keck, Laurie, Mo.; his daughter, Rhonda and Dan Wyland of Clarksdale, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Vicki McDonell and Sherry Sharp; 4 stepsons, Mike, Mark and Chris McDonell, and David Myer. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved his kind and generous heart.

Scott grew up loving trucks and was a big rig driver his entire career. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War, which he spent driving a truck. He received the highly coveted performance award ring for outstanding safety and no offenses, driving over 1 million miles in his 40-year career at Crouch Brothers. He then worked for 10 years detailing cars for his stepson, David Myer. We’re all pretty sure he’s driving the highways in Heaven with his friends and smiling that beautiful grin.

He will be very sadly missed by family and friends.

Hazel M. “Marge” Spencer Wertz, 97, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021.

She was born to Elmer and Flora (McCauley) Spencer on September 16, 1923 in Hemple, Missouri.

In 1947 she married Jack L. Wertz in St. Joseph, Missouri. They were married 57 years before his passing in 2003.

She was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church for over 60 years. Marge was a resident of Corby Place in St. Joseph, Missouri for many years.

She was also preceded in death by son, Joseph Wertz; grandson, Ryan Wertz; parents; sisters, Ida Mae Ragland, Elizabeth Bolin, Ruth Spencer, Helen Fuehring; brothers, G.W. Spencer, Carl Spencer, and Wayne Spencer.

Survivors include daughter, Donna Hardin, Bradenton, Florida; son; Tom Wertz; grandchildren, Tim Willis, Chris Willis (Toni), Tina Stobaugh (Scott), Amy Stallsworth, Ashely Jo Tyrrell (David); 7 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel M. “Marge” Spencer Wertz, 97, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021. She was born to Elmer and Flora (McCauley) Spencer on September 16, 1923 in Hemple, Missouri. In 1947 she married Jack L. Wertz in St. Joseph, Missouri. They were married 57 years before his passing in 2003. She was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church for over 60 years. Marge was a resident of Corby Place in St. Joseph, Missouri for many years. She was also preceded in death by son, Joseph Wertz; grandson, Ryan Wertz; parents; sisters, Ida Mae Ragland, Elizabeth Bolin, Ruth Spencer, Helen Fuehring; brothers, G.W. Spencer, Carl Spencer, and Wayne Spencer. Milo Eugene Martin Sr. 88 of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021 at a St. Joseph hospital. 

He was born February 10, 1933 in Canton, OK., to R.A. and Mary Fischer Martin the seventh of eight children. Milo grew up in the farmlands of Oklahoma, mostly around Fairview. At the age of 16 he got his first motorcycle, which he used to go round up the cattle. Milo was an avid motorcycle rider and loved the sport of racing. He owned his own motorcycle dealership for 10 years in El Dorado, Ks. He was an AMA member for over 60 years. Milo came to St. Joseph around 1974 and made this his home. He worked many years for JW McGlade Masonry. He was a former member of Hyde Park Foursquare Church serving on many committees for the church. Prior to the covid pandemic he attended Grace Evangelical Church. He loved serving at the Valley Food Kitchen with his friends from Grace.

Milo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward and Raymond Martin, sisters Ruby Wilson, Rachael Harsh, Elsie Odneal and Clara Nickel, nephew Ron Martin, granddaughter Kyleigh Otte , grandson Dakota Lawrence and most recently his mother-in-law Mildred Bricker.

Survivors include: his wife Judy Martin of the home, children Milo Jr., Mark (Cheryl) Farthing, Danielle (Scott) Crockett and Matthew (Minda) Lawrence. Also surviving are grandchildren Kynslie Otte, Ariel (Diego) Velezquez, Dalton (Haley) Lawrence and Presleigh Lawrence. Great grandchildren Jacob Velequez and Daelyn Lawrence, one surviving sister Patricia (William) Bell of Wichita, KS. He has many nieces and nephews in Kansas and Oklahoma as well as here in St. Joseph. 

Milo was a wonderful family man and will be missed not only by his family but all his coffee buddies at McDonalds and Taco Johns. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Shriners Hospital for children or the Noyes Home in St. Joseph.

He was born February 23, 1972 in St. Joseph, MO, and he attended Mid Buchanan High School. Ronnie was self employed as a auto upholsterer and window tinter. He enjoyed fishing, and riding his four wheeler. He liked to visit people around the area, and he was a collector, and he loved his daughter tremendously. 

Ronnie was preceded in death by father, Jimmie C. Richardson, and mother, Judi Ann Simerly, and infant sister, Laurie Ann.

Deanna Bremer, 82, of St. Joseph, passed from this life on August 1, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Deanna was preceded in death by her parents, Letha and Claude Crockett and six siblings.

She is survived by husband Francis, children Annette Hollars (Louis), John Bremer (Sheryl) and Patricia Kendrick (Dave), sister Beverly Graham, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Deanna was a wonderful homemaker and beloved mother.&nbsp; She enjoyed square dancing, crochet and fishing.&nbsp; She loved to travel and was a member of the Midwest Camping Club.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed time spent with her family.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday August 6th and service at 10:00 AM Saturday August 7th at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel&nbsp; followed by entombment at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Edward “Ed” Duane Swartz, 67, Alexander, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021.

Ed was born September 8, 1953, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Henry
 Edward and Norma Jean (Clark) Swartz.&nbsp; A lifelong resident of Rush 
County, Kansas, he was a 1971 graduate of La Crosse High School, La 
Crosse, Kansas, and attended Barton County Community College, Great 
Bend, Kansas

Ed enjoyed farming, dirt-moving, hunting, playing basketball, 
watching various sports, and spending time with his friends and family. 
He loved listening to oldies music and playing outside with all his 
children, nieces, and nephews.

Ed met Louise Casey through a co-ed softball team in La Crosse, 
Kansas. The couple was married on April 23, 1983, at St. Michael’s 
Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Louise Swartz, Alexander, Kansas; his 
children, Staci Kiewel (Daniel), Great Bend, Kansas, Emily Swartz, St. 
Joseph, Missouri, and Tanner Swartz (Codie), Olathe, Kansas; his 
granddaughter Makenzie Kiewel, Great Bend, Kansas; siblings, Susan 
Bailey (Ernie), Patti Johnson (Mike), and Steve Swartz (Loretta); 
brother-in-law, Lyle Seltmann. Ed is also survived by many nieces and 
nephews, and many close and lifelong friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diana O’Brien; brother in law, Stan O’Brien; and sister, Cindy Seltmann.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 
P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family

Prior to retirement she owned and operated Keepin'Company Beauty Shop in Stewartsville, MO.&nbsp; She had been a hairdresser for almost 50 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Gail Lyman (Randy), Becky St. Clair (Joe), Jenny Farr (Kevin); 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Harley and Wayne Bootman; and four sisters, Thelma Hamann, Opal Shera, Dorothy Long Shera, and Leila Frakes.

Carol attended Green Valley Baptist Church.&nbsp; She was an accomplished artist, loving to draw and paint.&nbsp; She loved her kids and loved beautiful things.
