Jeffrey D Moore, 55, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. 

He was born July 18, 1966 in St. Joseph, son of Merle "Lynn" and Harold Moore. He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1984. 

Jeffrey was preceded in death by father, Harold Doyle Moore, mother, Merle "Lynn" Moore. 

Survivors include, brother, Jamie (Dee Bailey) Moore, sister, Melissa Kennedy, son, Destin Noland of Lexington, MO, and his companion, Betty. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Mr. Moore will be cremated following services. Memorials are requested to the Jeffrey Moore Memorial Fund, c/o Rupp Funeral Home

Rose Marie (Gach) Haertling, 77, passed away, August 13, 2021, surrounded by immediate family.&nbsp; Rosie was born March 21, 1944, in St Joseph, MO.&nbsp; Rosie was a 1965 graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School.

During her career Rosie dedicated herself to public service from the local to federal level.&nbsp; She proudly served her country in the U.S Naval Reserve and was a 12-year U.S. Congressional and U.S Senate staff member. Prior to federal employment, she staffed for the circuit court system in Buchanan County.&nbsp; Following her retirement from federal service, Rosie proudly served the community for the past 11 years as a member of the Northwest Health Services team assigned to a clinic in Savannah, MO.

Rosie was a devout Catholic and enjoyed cantoring for the past four decades at St. Francis, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Cathedral parishes.&nbsp; She was a proud member of the University of Missouri Extension Office having achieved the status of Master Gardner for the NW Missouri program.

Rosie is survived by two sons, Jeff Haertling and his wife Susan of Tierra Verde, FL and Duane Haertling and his wife Kristina of St. Joseph, MO.&nbsp; Rosie adored and was most proud of her four grandchildren, Kiersten Haertling, Kansas City, MO; Alex Haertling, Long Beach, CA; Alayna Haertling, Tierra Verde, FL; and Korinn Haertling of St. Joseph.&nbsp; She is also survived by six siblings of St. Joseph.

With a lifetime of devotion and service to others, Rosie’s final act of altruism was donating her body to science at the University of Kansas Cancer Center in hopes that they may better understand the rare cancer, cholangiocarcinoma that took her too soon from her family and friends.&nbsp;

A Funeral Mass will be help on Thursday, September 2 at 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2618 Seneca St. St Joseph, MO 64507.&nbsp; A Rosary will precede the Mass at 10:30, and a luncheon will be held immediately following the memorial at the St. Francis Parish Center.&nbsp; We welcome anyone who knew Rosie to join us in celebration of her life.

Danny Ray Richardson, 67, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph.&nbsp;

Danny was born on August 3, 1954 in St. Joseph, Missouri to William and Evelyn (Owens) Richardson.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served in the U.S. Navy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Danny worked construction.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved to hunt, catch and cook fish.&nbsp;

He married Deborah Bunton on October 14, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives of the home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Danny was preceded in death by his father, sister, Jeanie Fritzinger, brothers; Everett and Ricky Richardson and a grandson, Darren.&nbsp;

Additional survivors include 4 sons; Danny Ray, Jr Richardson (Maggie), Dakota Richardson (Wendy), Dustin Richardson, Derrick Richardson (Robyn)&nbsp;

Jack married Sara Yost on May 12, 1957 in Atchison, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives of the home.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Henry Page, infant twin sons: Curtis and Richard Page and a great-nephew, Ted Trainer.&nbsp;

Eli Phillip Whittaker, 26, of Atchison, Kansas left this world on Saturday, August 14, 2021.

Eli was born on December 7, 1994 during an ice storm in St. Joseph, Missouri to Raymond and Lynnette (Robinson) Whittaker.&nbsp;He graduated from Troy High School in 2013, from there he went on to Vo tech to study to be a diesel mechanic. He then worked at Hegarty Farms (Tim Hegarty) until 2019 when he was employed by the City of Troy.&nbsp;

Eli had a kind heart and soul. He was a loving and caring person to anyone he was around.&nbsp;He made sure that everyone knew that he would do anything for them. &nbsp;

Eli enjoyed being with his family and friends.&nbsp; He took the role as Uncle above and beyond. &nbsp; Even though he was the youngest he was always the protector. &nbsp;

He enjoyed many things in his short time here.&nbsp; You could always find him riding his Talon; rain, shine, or through the freezing cold, that’s what he loved doing.&nbsp; Eli loved to be in the shop working on anything that needed to be fixed.&nbsp; You could even catch a smile on his face when he was helping out on the tractors and farming.&nbsp;He will be remembered in everything surrounding us, he touched so many people. &nbsp;

Eli is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albert and Gloria Robinson, paternal grandparents, Vernon and Lorena Whittaker and nephew, Ryder Rush

He is survived by his parents, Raymond and Lynnette Whittaker of Atchison, Kansas

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 2 sisters; Lacey (Sean) Phillips of Troy, Kansas

Betty Lou French, of Hiawatha, went to be with her Lord &amp; Savior Tuesday afternoon, December 1, 2020, at the home of her daughter and son in law with whom she shared a home for the last two years.&nbsp;She was 92.

Betty Lou (as her Highland friends and family knew her) was born August 31, 1928, near Troy, KS, one of four children born to William Everett and Verlie Mae Clary Colley. She was a lifelong resident and main stay of NE Kansas. She attended rural country schools at the Brown-Doniphan County line (she would tell of walking uphill both ways). When they moved to Highland, the kids had to stay in town to go to school.&nbsp;She would get so homesick, she would get a ride home, only to have her father return her to school. Betty Lou graduated from Highland High School and later earned a teaching certificate from Highland Junior College. While going to high school, she worked at French’s Café over her lunch hour.

She was a longtime member of the Christian Center in Hiawatha, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. Betty Lou had three longtime childhood friends whom she always enjoyed getting together with 3 times a year (with the help of their daughters) to celebrate birthdays.&nbsp;Ruthie, Leola (who died 12 hours earlier), and Beverly.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She met her husband William Eugene “Bill” French while they were attending high school.&nbsp;They later married in Highland on April 30, 1949.&nbsp;She taught in one room school houses in Sparks and later Powhattan while Bill worked at the Hiawatha Greenhouse. She and Bill were instrumental in starting the Day Care Center, one of the first of such to help handicapped children and adults. She started working part-time during the day at the Greenhouse and waiting tables in the evening at the Maple Leaf Restaurant in Hiawatha. If you EVER went to the Greenhouse to buy flowers or bedding plants, and you met Betty at the counter, you know that she would undoubtedly share her opinion (true to her conviction, she would say).&nbsp;Bill and Betty later made Hiawatha their home where they raised their family. When the kids were young, they would sell fireworks for the Fourth of July over on the east edge of Highland.&nbsp;Then as the kids grew, they started decorating family floats for the Hiawatha Halloween Parade. Betty would be the ‘brains,’ and Billy would ‘make it happen.’ Even as their children started having children, this was still part of who they were… sometimes not starting work on the float till just a few days beforehand!&nbsp;They enjoyed serving the Hiawatha-Highland communities, spreading joy throughout the area with their flowers.&nbsp;Every year at Christmas, she enjoyed going to the area nursing homes, delivering a small poinsettia grown by Bill. They were also foster parents for a few years.&nbsp;Their ministry also included making a home for several gospel groups over the years. She would work all day, then come home to cook for anywhere from 4 to 15, then do laundry so the groups could go traveling for the week, all the while, never complaining. She had a thing about everything having to be ironed… not so sure she didn’t iron underwear! The Post Office will definitely operate in the red from this time forward… Betty, for years and years, was very dedicated to sending out cards… always signed “love and prayers.” And we can’t forget about the “Bettyisms!” Bill died in 2014.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Geneva (Albert Wagner) and Lillie Marie (Leonard Blevins), a brother William Everett “Bud” Colley, Jr., sister-in-law Kay Lynn Stahl, and adopted son Tim Petersen.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children:&nbsp;Beverly Brock (Jay) of Hiawatha, Tony French (Lanna) of Highland, sister-in-law Mary Lou Colley of rural Highland; six grandchildren MaLynda, Mandy (Keith), Erin (Aaron), Kelly, Katelin, Emily (Ethan); 4 great-grandchildren:&nbsp;Brock &amp; Gabriel and Ava &amp; Micah.

Margaret L. “Maggie” (Grinstead) Heinz, 86, Kearney, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021. On April 10, 1935 she was born in Blythedale, Missouri to Leland and Ruth (Lewis) Grinstead.

She married Charles F. Heinz on November 20, 1957, they were later divorced.

Margaret enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Belinda Faris; sister, Marion Campbell; brothers, Keith, Bud, Albert Dean, Carl “Gene”, and Ronnie Grinstead; son-in-law, Kevin Tinder.

Mary Joyce Kleppe, age 90, passed away Friday August 13th, at Amberwell Hiawatha Hospital surrounded by family.

She was born near Fairview on February 22, 1931, to John Henry and Mildred (Houlette) Fraser.&nbsp; She met the love of her life and best friend, Paul Adam Kleppe, while attending Hiawatha High School.&nbsp;&nbsp; They graduated in 1949, and Mary worked in the Brown County Extension and Treasurer’s Office, until she and Paul were married at the First Christian Church of Hiawatha on November 5th, 1950.

Mary and Paul started their married life farming near Troy.&nbsp; They later moved to Hiawatha and purchased the farm where they worked side by side for more than 50 years.&nbsp; Mary served for many years on the Election Board in Robinson.&nbsp; She spent countless hours working outside caring for her flowers and yard, still mowing up until the time of her death.&nbsp; She and Paul were married early 65 years when he died on June 29th, 2015.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, infant daughter Mary Beth, two brothers: Jake Fraser, Gerald Fraser, four sisters:&nbsp; Jean Zimmerman, Joan Hall, Shirley Babb, and Janice Kathrens, and daughter in law GeGe.

She is survived by children Debra (Jim ) Ewing and Bruce (Whitney), all of Hiawatha, grandchildren Gilay (Richard) Allen of Topeka, KS, Karma Kleppe (Steven Jones) of St. Joseph, MO, Justin (Sherame) Kneisel of Benton, Jarred (Jennifer) Knelsel of Hutchinson; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister Betty Adams of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha with Eric Hicks officiating.&nbsp; A private scattering of Mary &amp; Paul will follow on the family farm near Hiawatha.

Roger D. Krofft, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021.

He was born in Easton, Missouri on October 31, 1926 to Albert and Elizabeth (Slaybaugh) Krofft. Roger married Betty (Pulliam) Krofft on April 24, 1928. She preceded him in death.

He served in the United States Army and upon returning home, went to work for Swift and Company in St. Joseph. He also was employed by Associated Grocers and later Affiliated Foods, from which he retired in 1992.

Roger loved spending time with his children and grandkids. He loved to travel, especially to family vacations visiting many states when the kids were still at home. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, hunting, and gardening. He and Betty also traveled abroad for trips during retirement. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Krofft; and brother, Lloyd Krofft.

Survivors include his children, Steve Krofft, Doug Krofft (Victoria Knight), and Patricia Vernon; grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan and Claire Krofft, and Michael and Kaitlin Anderson; and great-grandson, Shawn Turner, Jr.

Anita Marie Papisan 84, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 in a Saint Joseph, MO Hospital. 

She was born April 22, 1937 in Kansas City, Kansas, daughter of the late Goldie &amp; Raymond Nelson. She married Gerald Papisan on February 25, 1959, he passed away in 2015. She graduated from Benton High School, and worked at HD Lee and company. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, gardening, and bowling with Gerald for many years. She was a Christian. 

Anita was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Papisan, son, Robert Dean Papisan, parents, brother, Raymond Jr., and Thomas, and a sister, Connie Nelson. 

Survivors include: daughters, Barb (Jim) Wheeler, St. Joseph, MO, Cindy Papisan, Medicine Bow, WY, and Hope Easter, St. Joseph, MO, sister, Barbara (Gary) Gilbert of St. Joseph, MO, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Wilma Frances Furgeson 70, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, August 13, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born September 10, 1950, in Louisiana, Missouri, the daughter of the late Nellie Irene &amp; Robert Welch. She worked at Mead, retiring after 20 plus years of service, and was working at Home Depot as a Cashier. She enjoyed bingo, garage selling, decorating for holidays, spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren. She was a three-time Cancer Survivor and a four-time warrior, and a member of the Journey Baptist Church. 

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Betty Clements, Jeanette Paxton, Christina Evans, and Loretta Keller, brothers, Mike Welch and Robert Welch. 

Survivors include; daughters, Shantell (Brian) Wells, and Michelle (Edward) Boone, and Alicia (Thomas Miller) Furgeson, son, Arley (Valerie) Furgeson all of St. Joseph, MO, former husband, Arley Furgeson Sr, siblings, Lenora (Sonny) Cairo, Atchison, KS, Chuck (Linda) Welch, Joe Welch, Anita (Glenn) Niffen, St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren: Coltan, Macee, Raygin, Ryker, Jazmine, Kolby, Landon, Jurnee, Phoenix, Rayael, Kiyerah, Cynsere, Rhyen, ReaZon, Theo, and Trey, great-grandchildren, Romy, Riott, &amp; Sergio.

Betty R. Nold died August 15, 2021 in St. Joseph of natural causes. &nbsp;&nbsp;Betty was born the third daughter of Beecher and Mamie M. Fox on September 5, 1939 on "Rumpus Ridge" in Galena, MO, near the James River.&nbsp; The family moved to Wichita, KS and she attended school there from seventh grade to high school graduation.

She married Wayne E. Nold, January 8, 1960 in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; He survives of the home along with house cats, Misses Peka and Sula.&nbsp; Also surviving are two sisters Olive M. Cocking of Wichita, KS, Carol S. Fox of Everett WA; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces, nephews scattered from Washington, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri, and Tennessee.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Barbara J. Smith, &nbsp;of Wichita, and nephews Brent Cocking of Wichita, and Stephen Nold of St. Joseph.

Betty was employed as administrative secretarial support personnel in two school systems - Wichita Public Schools for nearly three years before marriage; the St. Joseph Public Schools 1960-1970; and retired after 29 years again from the Wichita Public Schools in 1998.&nbsp; A total of 39 years in public school education and she felt a most fulfilling education to herself as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She credited several very special mentors in her working career.&nbsp; They were Gerald Max Coleman, St. Joseph; Helen Dunbar Frieze, and Drs. Murray C. Harris and Alvin E. Morris of Wichita.

Her retirement days were filled with many favorite activities.&nbsp; They included recreational golf, backyard birds, cooking, flowers and the performing arts.&nbsp; Also included was Wichita State's men's basketball and Missouri Western's men's and "especially" the women's games.&nbsp; She belonged to one of the St. Joseph Garden Clubs and Questers, Inc., Pony Express Chapter #400 beginning in 2006.&nbsp; As a self-described "verse collector" two favorites were:&nbsp; "It's the quiet times we work for.&nbsp; The rush of everyday is just a race to those precious moments marked by the audible tick of a clock" and, "Until we meet again, the time will seem so long."

Betty has been a member of Ashland United Methodist Church since 2012.&nbsp; In honoring her wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

Mrs. Nold has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.&nbsp; There will be a private graveside service in Savannah Cemetery at a later date.

Marlene Kay Leeson, of Savannah, Mo, known to everyone as "Bobbie", passed on August 13, 2021 after cancer arrogantly declared battle with her on July 9, 2021. Despite how it may appear, cancer soundly lost that battle.

Bobbie was born to Marvin and Katherine Thornton on July 15, 1952.

Bobbie married Ronald Leeson on August 22, 2000. He survives of their home.

She is also survived by her daughter; Pamela Sten (Nick Patterson), her stepson; Lawrence Leeson (Brenda) and their children, her brother; Dean Thornton, her brother; James (Pauline), her brother; Richard (Sue), and a large extended family.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister; Donna Jean Shineman, her brother; Roger Thornton, and her brother; Larry Thornton.

Bobbie’s favorite color was blue. Some of the things she enjoyed most were caring for her family, making her home beautiful, filling her home with snowmen at Christmas, eating vine-ripened tomatoes in the summer, playing “bingo” and savoring a cup of coffee first thing each morning. It made her very happy to help others. She rarely turned down an opportunity to contribute and she rarely passed by a stranger in need without offering something to assist.

Bobbie was fond of telling people they were welcome to be whomever they wanted to be so long as they afforded her the same grace. Speaking of grace, she embodied it. She accepted and triumphed over every challenge along her path.

Many of us will say she was one of the strongest women we knew. Along with inspiring us with her grace and strength, she gifted steadfast support to anyone she loved.

She would ask us to support one another and to support those strangers in need that we meet along the way. “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Do not question where she has gone. Undoubtedly, heaven was made with people like Bobbie in mind.

The family will receive 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Heaton Bowman Smith Savannah Chapel in Savannah, MO. &nbsp;Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Savannah. Inurnment will follow the service at Bennett Lane Cemetery in Savannah.

Ray Sheffler, Jr., 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021.

He was born February 22, 1942 in St. Joseph to Ray Sheffler, Sr., and Vera (Garen) Sheffler.

Ray married Clara May Hahn on April 25, 1959. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2018.

He worked for Mosaic Life Care for many years as housekeeping manager.

Ray enjoyed fishing and held a record for catching a 60-pound blue cat. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; parents; daughter, Angela Penland; brother, Ronnie; and sister, Janice.

Survivors include his son, Tom Sheffler (Susan); grandchildren, Sonya, Kasey, Erin, Marcus, and Beth; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

David Wayne Richardson 61, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 near Atchison, KS. 

He was born March 8, 1960 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Sharon and Clyde Richardson. He attended Benton High School, and he married Leanna Sauter on November 13, 1987. He worked at Silgan Containers as a machine mechanic for 33 years. David enjoyed race cars, hunting, fishing, and golfing, and he got a hole in one on the 18th. He also enjoyed mechanic work, but most especially he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was awarded the Friendliest Folks Award from the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. 

David was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Terry Hershman and Debbie Peden, and mother and father in law, Marceline &amp; Harold Sauter. 

Survivors include, wife, Leanna Richardson of the home, daughter, Emily (Billy) Bravo, son, Ian (Krystyn) Richardson, daughter, Alyssa Richardson all of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Ava, Emma, Mia, Riddick, Rilyn, and Cain, sister, Sherry (Scott) Cox, brother, Clyde "Buddy" V Richardson, Jr. all of St. Joseph, MO, and step father, Dan Wiley of Pittsburg, KS.

Marceline Jeanette Sauter 91, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 in St. Joseph, MO. 

She was born February 8, 1930, daughter of the late Ethel and Smith. She graduated from Hopkins High School, and she was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting and rug making. 

Marceline was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Edwin Sauter, her parents, 2 brothers, Robert and Ralland Smith, and son in law, David Richardson. 

Survivors include, four children: Lee Sauter, Amazonia, MO, Leanna Richardson, St. Joseph, MO, Laura (Richard) Antle, Platte City, MO, and Lonnie (Barbara) Sauter, Olathe, KS, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a sister, Beverly Rivera of the home.

Memorial Services: 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Inurnment will be at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carol A. Mix, 80, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 at her home.&nbsp;

Carol was born on December 23, 1940 in Elwood, Kansas to George D. and Ethyl May (Thompson) Weythman.&nbsp;

She worked factory work all her life.&nbsp;

Carol married Leroy Mix on June 23, 1984 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

Survivors: children, Debbie May (Darwin Sr.), Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Clifton, St. Joseph, Missouri, Stacy Herrington (Toyia), Boliver, Missouri, Angel Mix, Helena, Missouri and Ted Mix, St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp;

5 Grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Sherry Gail Stufflebean 65, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at her home. 

She was born December 6, 1955 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Mary and Henry Herring. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a kind spirited woman who loved life. 

Her greatest joy in life was her family and God. She was loving and had a great sense of humor, and was strong in her faith and her love of God. Sherry was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. 

She worked many years at Custom Cable, Sherwood Medical, and Walmart. 

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Henry Herring Jr., sisters, Shirley Miller, Peggy Davidson, Faye Woolsey, and Karen Tworek. 

Survivors include, daughters, Angel (Vincent ) Silkwood, St. Joseph, MO, and Stacy (Chris) Platt, Early, IA, brothers, Carl Herring of the home, and Jerry Herring, St. Joseph, MO, sisters, Francie Davidson, St. Joseph, MO, and Mary Davidson of Clarksdale, MO, grandchildren, Samantha and Hunter McCarty, and Madison Silkwood, great-grandchildren, Maiya Norman and Maverick and Waylon Bozarth, her good friend, Ova, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
