Summit Truck Bodies has announced a $50 million expansion at its Wathena facility.

The company says the new, state-of-the-art facility, will double
production. The new facility will total 220,000 square feet with 200,000 dedicated to manufacturing and 20,000 for offices. The company plans to
hire 80 new employees across various departments.

Reynolds Construction Management has been contracted to complete
the expansion. Construction is expected to be finished in a little less than two
years.

The new facility will be located next to the existing
production and warehouse facility. It will focus on service body production and
final assembly of service trucks.

"In deciding to build this new facility, we
considered our current lead times, customer expectations, and the increase in
our parts sales and service," Chris Walter, Summit Truck Bodies Plant
Manager, said in a written statement. "The most exciting aspect of this
expansion is the integration of new technology and streamlined processes that
will maximize our production efficiency. The advanced equipment will improve
fabrication and paint speed, reduce physical strain on our workers, and ensure
consistent high quality. This expansion will significantly decrease lead times
and enhance after-sales support, directly benefiting our customers."

The Doniphan County Economic Development assisted with the
project with help from the state.

“Summit Truck Bodies’ expansion proves that our dedicated
workforce, quality of life, and central location draw businesses across various
industries. Kansas will continue to partner with first-class companies like Summit
Truck Bodies to ensure communities throughout the state have opportunities to prosper,”
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said in a written statement released by her office.

Summit Truck Equipment, a sister company of Summit Truck
Bodies, sells custom service and lube trucks and equipment produced by Summit
Truck Bodies.

Summit Truck Bodies announces $50M expansion in Wathena

ANDREW COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 2:30p.m. Wednesday in Andrew County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Polaris Predator 500 driven by a 17-year-old from Union Star was eastbound on County Road 243 three miles southeast of Union Star. The driver lost control of the vehicle. It traveled off the road, struck an embankment and the teen was ejected as the ATV rolled.&nbsp;

Grand River ambulance transported the boy to Mosaic Life Care. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.

The St. Joseph Police Department is getting new body and dash cameras for officers.  

Police Chief Paul Luster says the reception to the new cameras has been positive, and while there might have been hesitancy at first from officers, they now realize how valuable the devices are 

"A device that overwhelmingly protects them, protects them from false complaints, false perceptions even,” Luster tells KFEQ Hotline host Barry Birr. “You have this high-definition camera and microphone that’s on your body, that is unbiased.” 

Luster says the new technology will help provide transparency and accountability for the department.  

"Of course, when you do that, you have the opportunity to build public trust,” Luster explains. “But just the things maybe the common citizen doesn’t think about, we can use them for a training tool, where we can review footage and really, I say we will Monday morning quarterback an incident, and people are like well why would you do that, and I say well any good team looks at game film to get better.” 

Luster says another use for the new cameras is training opportunities 

"To just go through situations and debrief situations, the system has the ability where we can livestream, so if it’s a critical event, a supervisor or command staff that’s not even on scene yet can livestream a feed from the officer right on the computer in their car or in their office,” Luster says.  “So just lots of ways to really enhance our operations here at the police department.”

St. Joseph Police installing and learning new body cams for officers

It was a hot and steamy day at Missouri Western State University as the Chiefs returned to practice after a day off on Tuesday.  

Temperatures were up near the 100's and there were a handful of players that left practice with injuries, luckily none heat related.  

Head Coach Andy Reid says the work to keep players on the field in the heat starts before practice making sure guys are staying hydrated 

"We don't have very many of the hydration issues, which is a positive, our trainers do a nice job of that," Reid tells reporter's post-practice. "And then during practice we water break them, so we'll go a certain number of plays, then you'll see the people run the water in and give them a quick shot, and then hop back out." 

During training camp fans and coaches have had their eyes on one receiver looking to make an impact in his second year in the league.  

After spending last season on the injury list, Nikko Remigio has been making big plays in the offense and on special teams 

Remigio says the mentality he takes to get through camp is to just be resilient 

"And that's really been kind of the moral of my entire journey is just staying resilient and continuing to punch," Remigio explains. "I've always been an underdog at every single level of football that I've played at, so being in this position is nothing new to me, so just making sure that I'm still fighting and being the best version of myself every single day." 

Head Coach Andy Reid says he's been impressed with the development of Remigio 

"He's getting better every rep he gets, so that's a positive thing for us," Reid says. 

Remigio also worked during the offseason with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.  Special Teams Coach Dave Toub has been especially impressed with him on punt and kick return.  

The Chiefs return to practice tomorrow at 9:15.

The Chiefs lost a handful of players during Wednesday's practice but did see the return of one player from the physically unable to perform list.  

Justin Reid, Justin Watson, and Nazeeh Johnson were all still absent from practicing, though they were all present on the practice fields, as they continue to recover from injuries.  

Head Coach Andy Reid reports that tight end Izaiah Gathings left practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury.  Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, offensive lineman Chukwuebuka Godrick, and offensive lineman McKade Mettauer all left with ankle injuries.  

Middle linebacker Nick Bolton went down during 11-on-11 drills, Reid reports Bolton left practice with an elbow injury.  

In positive news, Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson was back in a helmet and pads on Wednesday after passing a physical and being removed from the PUP list.

Chiefs push through heat as they return to practice Wednesday

St. Joseph voters next week will decide an issue designed to
raise teacher pay in the St. Joseph School District.

Proposition S on the Tuesday ballot will provide a flat, $2,750
raise to St. Joseph public school teachers as well as all staff in the
district.

Friends of the St. Joseph School District co-chair, Melanie
Barnes, says St. Joseph must become more competitive in teacher pay.

“We are competing and losing qualified teachers and support
staff towards our surrounding districts and our surrounding school districts,
whether they’re in Buchanan County or if they’re across the way in Kansas. We’re
losing teachers to Savannah. We’re losing teachers to Cameron. We’re losing
teachers to Platte City and Mid-Buch,” Barnes tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ
Hotline. “In order to be competitive and retain qualified and excellent
teachers and support staff, we have to pay them.”

Proposition S would raise the property tax by 59 cents on
every $100 of assessed valuation. The campaign reports that increase would
total nearly $19 dollars a month on a $200,000 house, or approximately $226
annually. If approved, the operating levy for the St. Joseph School District
would rise to $4.91.

Proposition S also proposes eliminating the Proposition C rollback.
The state of Missouri approved Proposition C in 1982, adding a cent to the
state sales and use tax for schools and highways in exchange for a rollback in local
property taxes. Most Missouri school districts have abandoned that formula.

“Ninety percent of Missouri school districts have already
canceled or waived this rollback and gotten that property tax back into the
school system,” Barnes says. “So, 90% of other school districts have already
done this. And so, in order to be competitive and compete with that additional
pay and base pay, we need to do it, too.”

Competition is one theme being struck by the Friends of the
St. Joseph School District campaign. Another is community growth.

Barnes says improving public schools is vital in efforts to
attract people to St. Joseph.

“Whether they’re coming in retirement age or coming in just
out of college, in order to get people to come in and move into this district,
we have to have a strong community to support other initiatives; our parkway
system, other things. I mean, that comes from taxpayer dollars and in order to,
again, increase our taxpayer dollars, we have to have people moving into this area
and having a strong school district is one way to help do that.”

Proposition S needs a simple majority to pass. It will be on the
August 6th ballot.

St. Joseph voters will decide pay raise for teachers & staff

A political action committee that for two years has mostly existed to bankroll Missouri Gov. Mike Parson’s trips to the Super Bowl has begun spending money to bolster his preferred candidates in next week’s GOP primaries.

Uniting Missouri, which was created to support Parson’s bid for a full term in 2020, donated $100,000 this week to the PAC backing Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe’s bid for governor and spent&nbsp;roughly $100,000 on TV ads in the Kansas City market attacking Will Scharf, who is seeking to oust Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

The PAC spent nearly $600,000 on “digital advertising” and&nbsp;$36,000 on radio ads in central and southwest Missouri, although public reports do not indicate who is being targeted in those advertisements.

Parson, who is barred from seeking another term as governor, appointed Kehoe and Bailey to their current jobs and endorsed them both for the Aug. 6 primary.&nbsp;

The spending spree for Parson appointees was made possible by a pair of large donations last week.&nbsp;

David Steward, co-founder of World Wide Technology and a former member of the Washington University Board of Trustees, donated $100,000 to Uniting Missouri on July 25.&nbsp;

The St. Louis law firm of trial attorney Eric Holland donated $300,000 on July 26. The firm gave Uniting Missouri $250,000 earlier this year.&nbsp;

Uniting Missouri also reported receiving $5,000 from MACO Development Co., a low-income housing developer; $10,000 from a group called 36 Political Fund, which is connected to the sheet metal workers union; and $25,000 from five different PACs that are all controlled by the lobbying firm of Steve Tilley, a longtime adviser to the governor.&nbsp;

Last month, Uniting Missouri accepted a $50,000 donation from the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association and $15,000 from Torch Electronics, a Wildwood-based company accused of operating illegal gambling machines across the state.&nbsp;

Uniting Missouri’s intervention in the GOP primary is only the latest example of the governor seeking to put his thumb on the scale for his favored candidates.&nbsp;

Parson last year used&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2024/01/17/stinks-quite-a-bit-mike-parson-accused-of-illegally-using-office-to-meddle-in-primaries/">official letterhead from the governor’s office</a>&nbsp;to unsuccessfully pressure a national Republican organization to support Bailey’s candidacy. And his department of labor&nbsp;spent&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/politics/missouri-psa-andrew-bailey/63-104fcd6b-02b0-4ddc-910e-4a1ce338935c" target="_blank">$100,000 for a television advertisement that featured Bailey</a>.

In both instances, Parson faced accusations that&nbsp;he violated&nbsp;<a href="https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=115.646&amp;bid=49862&amp;hl=" target="_blank">a state law prohibiting the misuse of public resources for campaign purposes</a>.&nbsp;

Parson endured similar criticism from Kehoe’s main Republican rivals —&nbsp;Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and state Sen. Bill Eigel — when earlier this year he included the lieutenant governor in a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/foreign-land-missouri-agriculture-military-china-fcea4a00170ce64274d012a50934b0ab" target="_blank">press conference and executive order pertaining to foreign ownership of Missouri land</a>.&nbsp;

Parson took over as governor in June 2018 when his predecessor — Eric Greitens — resigned to avoid impeachment and settle a felony charge in St. Louis.&nbsp;

He won a full term in 2020. But because Greitens had more than two years left on his term when he resigned, Parson is prohibited from running again because of term limits.&nbsp;

Immediately after his 2020 victory, Uniting Missouri spent much of its money on campaign advisers and advertising —&nbsp; $69,000 on consultants in 2022, along with $150,000 on ads.

But spending patterns changed the last two years and have&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/briefs/pac-backing-term-limited-missouri-governor-keeps-raising-spending-campaign-cash/">focused mostly on Parson’s travel</a>.

Uniting Missouri paid $56,000 in February 2023 to the Kansas City Chiefs for a “fundraising event,” covering costs associated with the governor’s trip to Arizona for the Super Bowl. It also paid more than $110,000 during the first three months of 2023 to an aviation company connected to Tilley.

The PAC spent $64,000 earlier this year on credit card payments. The charges appear to be for another “fundraising event” at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, and included a $56,000 payment to the Kansas City Chiefs; $8,400 to Ticketmaster; and $650 to the NFL Experience.

Pro-Parson PAC seeks to boost Missouri governor’s favored candidates in GOP primaries

Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Brett Williams, says an excessive heat warning is in effect for the St. Joseph area through Wednesday night.&nbsp;

Williams explains heat indices for Wednesday could reach as high as 118 degrees. By Thursday, the heat index will be around 105.

Area residents are reminded to take precautions in extreme heat.

Executive Director of the American Red Cross for Greater Kansas City/Northwest Missouri, JoAnn Woody, says a simple way to cool down is to stay hydrated.&nbsp; "Drink plenty of fluids. Those fluids are things with lower sugar and caffeine."&nbsp;

Woody recommends water and sports drinks, like Gatorade or Powerade, as the best options to stay hydrated.

Other safety tips Woody recommends are taking frequent breaks and paying attention to how you feel. Some signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke are increased thirst, weakness and extreme tiredness, fainting, and muscle cramps. Woody says to pay attention how other people around you are feeling and watch for signs of heat-related illnesses.

Elderly people and young children are particularly susceptible to heat illnesses.

Cooling centers are available throughout the area. Woody says, "The Department of Health and Senior Services has put together an interactive map of cooling centers. That's a great resource to check."

It's Another Hot Week in the Midland Empire

ATCHISON COUNTY —Three people were injured in an accident just before 11a.m. Tuesday in Atchison.

A 2009 Toyota Sienna driven by Shawnna Dreher, 41, Atchison, was northbound in the 100 Block of South 10th Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The car rear-ended a 2014 Ford Escape driven by Debra Gerber, 67, Atchison. The impact pushed the Ford into the rear of a 2009 GMC Sierra&nbsp; driven by Charles Sprouse III, 39, Atchison. 

EMS transported Dreher, Gerber and her 43 year old passenger to Amberwell Hospital for treatment of injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured. Dreher was cited for following too closely.

Eastern Kansas Congressman Jake LaTurner says
several factors weighed in his decision not to run for re-election.

Though LaTurner, a Republican, says one factor
weighed more in the decision than others.

“I have four young kids at home. They are 13, 12,
nine, and seven. This is a job that I asked for, a job that I have loved in
many respects, but it takes me away from home, a lot.” Turner tells KFEQ/St.
Joseph Post. “And so, I just think, I have been doing this for a long time in
the state legislature, as a statewide elected official, now in Congress and it’s
kind of gotten to an inflection point for me.”

“I have enjoyed most aspects of this job, but not
all of them. The inability for Washington to get things done has been an enormous
frustration for me,” LaTurner says. “I’ve been frustrated by the party that’s
in the White House and controls the Senate, of course, because I think their
policies are so wrong headed. And I’ve been disappointed in my own party and our
inability to stick together.”

LaTurner served in the Kansas state legislature
before winning election as the Kansas state Treasurer. He won to the Second
Congressional District in Congress in 2020. He won re-election two years ago.

The Second Congressional District covers all of
eastern Kansas outside the Kansas City metropolitan area.

LaTurner says House Republican in-fighting has
ruined efforts to pass legislation in Congress.

“Our inability to stick together and row in the
same direction to pass good conservative policies for the American people has
been incredibly frustrating,” according to LaTurner.

LaTurner isn’t sure about his next steps.

“I don’t know. I still have some time to figure
that out,” LaTurner says. “I know for sure it involves me being home with
family a lot more than I am right now.” 

LaTurner does say he hopes to have the
opportunity to serve later down the road.

LaTurner will not endorse anyone as his
successor.

Five Republicans and two Democrats have entered the race. Kansas holds its primary August 6th.

Family & frustration - a Kansas Congressman decides against re-election run

A steel manufacturer will expand in St. Joseph.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development reports Interlock
Steel Structures will expand its 43,000-square-foot factory with a $773,000
investment. The expansion will create four jobs.

Interlock Steel says the increased capacity will make the
factory more productive and allow the company to produce its own steel sheeting
line while manufacturing fencing, railing, and gates products.

“Interlock Steel Structures’ expansion is great news for the
St. Joseph area and our state,” Gov. Mike Parson said in a written statement
released by his office. “Missouri continues to receive national attention for
our low cost of doing business and exceptional job growth. Companies like
Interlock Steel Structures are making this possible through significant
investments that are improving lives and strengthening communities.”

A 21-year-old St. Joseph man has drowned in the Missouri
River.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Johnathan Harness
never resurfaced while swimming in the Missouri River Sunday afternoon.

Multiple agencies responded and a search of the French Bottom
Access area in St. Joseph early Sunday evening began. Searchers discovered Harness’ body Monday afternoon after four o'clock near where he had been swimming.

The patrol reports the St. Joseph Police Department, the St.
Joseph Fire Department, and the Elwood Fire and Rescue team responded.

Young St. Joseph man drowns in Missouri River

CLINTON COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 2p.m. Monday in Clinton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Lincoln Continental driven by Dannie R. Cornwell, 85, Kansas City, Mo., was southbound on Interstate 35 just north of U.S. 69 Cameron exit.

The driver began to brake. The car slid off the east side of the road, struck a guardrail and traveled partially down an embankment.

Cameron Ambulance transported Corwell to Liberty Hospital. He was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

BROWN COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities in Brown County are investigating a suspect on drug allegations.

Just after 10p.m. July 26,&nbsp;a Brown County Sheriffs Office DrugTask Force initiated a search warrant at 310 S. 6th in Hiawatha, according to Sheriff John Merchant.

Deputies arrested 24-year-old Connor Barnes of Hiawatha on requested charges of Felony Distribution of Marijuana, No DrugTax Stamp, Possession of Marijuana and Posession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Kansas man accused of selling marijuana 

The Kansas City Chiefs had a lighter practice today during Training Camp. 

The Chiefs held a 10-10-10 practice, cycling through 10 offensive plays, 10 defensive plays and 10 minutes of special teams 

Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo says the value of these types of practice is more mental than anything 

"I think we went three straight days with pads, and I think Coach Reid would tell you the same thing, it's a good way to get a lot of work done but take a little bit of the physicality off and it was about time with our guys," Spagnuolo tells reporter's post-practice. "And now they'll have the day off and it works pretty good." 

"It's a little agonizing for me sometimes because you can't do anything physical" Spagnuolo jokes about the 10-10-10 practice. 

The Chiefs got a big boost to their offensive line over the weekend as guard Joe Thuney was cleared to return to action and was back at practice on Monday. 

Thuney had spent all of Training Camp to start on the physically unable to perform, or PUP, list after suffering a pectoral injury in last year's playoffs. 

Center Creed Humphrey says it's great to get a veteran like Thuney back 

"Getting to have him back doing some group install stuff, some indy (individual) stuff, it's been good and obviously he's a big-time leader for us, he has a ton of experience, and he's a heck of a player," Humphrey says. "So, whenever you get a guy like that back its great." 

Thuney worked with the starters during the teams install period, but seems to be working back slowly, giving snaps during drills to rookie Hunter Nourzad

Roles are shifting all over the Chiefs defense as defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo looks to replace some key players from last year's squad.  

Cornerback Trent McDuffie, an All-Pro last season, has seemingly been tabbed as the number one corner to replace L'Jarius Sneed who was traded.  

McDuffie says even in an all-pro season he was still learning in his role as a nickel corner, and now replacing Sneed he says is a whole different ball game. 

"Inside you've got help here and there, you can do things a little differently, but on the outside on the island, you have to be a technician," McDuffie explains. "And coming into this camp knowing that I might have to do some more of that, it's been each and every day working little by little on technique, technique, and just trying to perfect myself out there." 

Spagnuolo says while they have their number one corner in McDuffie, there is still much evaluation going on for who else will fill out the secondary.  

The Chiefs are off from practice tomorrow. They're back at 9:15 on Wednesday

Missouri must leverage its advantages in advancing technologies to grow the
state economy.

Mehan says there is a question that keeps him up at night.

“What are we going to do to make sure that Missouri gets the
support it needs to figure out what to do about the critical mineral shortages
that occur throughout the nation?” Mehan asks in an interview with KFEQ/St.
Joseph Post. “When we’re sitting on deposits of lead and other rare-earth
minerals that can be used to help make batteries or silicon chips.”

Those elements are vital in the manufacturing of cell phones,
electric cars, even cruise missiles. Mehan says Missouri is in a critical
position to help the nation solve the problems of emerging technology, even
that used for national defense.

Mehn says too few people realize the potential Missouri holds.

Also, the state is a leader in the manufacturing of active
pharmacy ingredients.

“And these are some of those things that are unfortunately
well-kept secrets,” Mehan says. “But these are natural strengths we have that
we should exploit and make sure we take our position in the lead in figuring
out those solutions.”

Mehan says many companies in Missouri are making major
breakthroughs.

“I would love to see this state become a leader in AI and how
to harness that technology and use it for good; use it for the betterment of
advanced manufacturing, the creation of better jobs around the state that can
be done whether it’s in Kansas City, St. Joe, or Sikeston, Missouri.”

Mehan says Missouri officials need to be aggressive in
marketing Missouri’s strengths both nationally and internationally.

Mehan says Missouri businesses still face a shortage of
qualified workers. He suggests the state needs to better inform high school
students plenty of careers offer high-paying jobs without a college degree
while continuing to support its colleges and universities.

Retired Missouri Chamber presidents says Missouri must capitalize on natural resources

More than just attempting an unprecedented Super Bowl
three-peat is on the minds of Kansas City Chiefs executives.

They also are weighing the best options for where the team
plays.

“GEHA Field at Arrowhead is a special place,” Chiefs owner
Clark Hunt told reporters earlier during his visit to Chiefs Training Camp in
St. Joseph. “It’s special for our fans and it’s special for the players and coaches,
but we do have to look to the future.”

Hunt said he is keeping an open mind as the team considers
renovations to Arrowhead or moving to a new stadium.

Jackson County voters overwhelmingly rejected a package
proposal that would have extended a three-eights cent sales tax to fund
renovations to Arrowhead, plus build a new downtown stadium for the Kansas City
Royals. Nearly 60% of the voters casting ballots April 2nd voted
against the proposal.

It appears the two teams, which have often joined forces, now will
take separate paths forward even as a new path has opened.

The Kansas legislature, meeting in special session in Topeka,
approved an incentive package aimed at luring either or both teams across the
state line in metropolitan Kansas City. Executives of both teams are reviewing
those incentives.

As for Hunt, he said the team is seriously considering all
options on the table and though he has expressed his love for Arrowhead, those
options include building new; perhaps even a domed stadium.

Hunt said he appreciates the Kansas legislature’s initiative.

“Well, part of our evaluation over the next several months and
coming years will be looking at whether we’re better off in a renovated building
or in a new stadium,” Hunt says. “And that new stadium could be on the Missouri
side as well. It doesn’t have to be on the Kansas side.”

Chiefs President Mark Donovan also addressed the issue during
a news conference to open Chiefs Training Camp on the Missouri Western State
University campus. Donovan struck the same theme, stating the NFL franchise is
reviewing its options.

“We are in discussions with the folks in Kansas. We continue
our discussions with the folks in Missouri, talking to various leaders. There
seems to be other options that are coming up now on the Missouri side. So, we
appreciate that,” Donovan said. “And it’s consistent with our strategy, which was
if this doesn’t work (the April ballot measure), which was our plan, then we
have to look at options and now we’ll have a couple of options to look at.”

Donovan added the window is closing for a decision. The Chiefs
president said something fairly solid has to be in place within six months,
noting it will take longer if the team chooses to build new, rather than
renovate Arrowhead. Donovan said the two projects, renovation versus new
construction, are two very different projects. Donovan called this a decision
that will impact the club for generations to come.

The Chiefs look to be playing either in a renovated Arrowhead
or a new stadium by the 2031 season.

As team prepares for season, Chiefs executives look to future

BUCHANAN COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 6a.m. Monday in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Emma E. Grogan, 19, Agency, was northbound on Interstate 29 just south of the I-229 downtown exit.

The pickup suffered a mechanical failure. The vehicle slid off the west side of the road and struck a cable barrier. Buchanan&nbsp; County EMS transported Grogan to Mosaic Life Care. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Missouri teen injured after pickup strikes cable barrier

ATCHISON COUNTY–Law enforcement authorities are investigating a knife attack and have made an arrest.

Shortly before 9p.m. Friday night police officers responded to the 800 block Atchison Street in the cit of Atchison to investigate a stabbing that had just occurred, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. A 50-year-old man was found at the scene suffering from a stab wound to the chest. 

Officers immediately located Morrio T. Moore, 40, Atchison, in an alley in the 800 block Santa Fe. The investigation at the scene determined that Moore had stabbed the victim during a disturbance at a residence in the 800 block Atchison Street where both the victim and the suspect resided together. 

Morrio Moore is being held on a requested charge of aggravated battery.

EMS transported the victim to Amberwell Hospital and later transported him to Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph Missouri.

Kansas man accused of stabbing his roommate

Friends, family, and long, hot practices for the Kansas City
Chiefs who just wrapped up a full weekend of practices in pads.

The Chiefs practices for more than two hours on Sunday.

Offensive lineman Trey Smith acknowledges things get a little
chippy between the offense and the defense during drills.

“I mean, coach sets the tempo, but it’s football man,” Smith
tells reporters after Sunday’s practice on the Missouri Western State
University campus. “Anger, sparks are going to fly, bodies might get hit a
little harder than expected. It is what it is, though. At the end of the day,
we’re grown men out here competing for jobs. Man, there’s going to be tension
and there’s going to be a lot of hot heads and stuff going on, but even cool
tempers, we know what our goal is at the end of the year, though. We’re going
to get after it.”

Linebacker Drue Tranquill returns to the team after signing an
extension.

“We’ve got a great group of guys and we’re excited to play
ball,” Tranquill tells reporters post-practice. “One of the things I noticed
when I came to Kansas City is you just had a group of guys who love to play
football. The days get long out here at St. Joe. They can get hot. Thankfully,
we had a nice breeze today. Everybody felt it. It felt good. But the spirit was
high. We’ve just got a lot in the balance. We’ve got a lot to compete for. We
know, Coach Reid says it every day, you’ve just got to show up and push
through.”

of Creed Humphrey.“Creed and I have known each other since sophomore year of
high school. So, we’ve always been friends. And to be able to play with a guy,
to have that continuity, that chemistry together as well, it makes our jobs a
lot easier; a lot of things we don’t have to verbalize.” Smith says. “It’s been
a huge help, man. It’s easy when you play next to a talent player like that.”And Tranquill praises the sacrifices made by the wives
and families as the players sequester on the Missouri Western campus for
training camp.“Our families go through a lot for us to play this
game. They don’t get nearly the credit we do,” Tranquill says. “They don’t get
to talk to the media, the media doesn’t really talk about them, and so the
stuff that they do behind the scenes to make this possible is nothing short of
amazing. They know how much we love and appreciate them. We love our wives, we
love our kids, we love our family.”The Chiefs return to the practice fields on the Missouri Western
campus tomorrow morning, before taking Tuesday off.
