NEWTON COUNTY —One person died in an accident during a law enforcement pursuit just before 9p.m. Tuesday in Newton County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1995 Chevy Silverado driven by a 38-year-old Joplin man was fleeing from patrol vehicles eastbound on Rosebay Driver seven miles northeast of Seneca. The pickup traveled off the left side of the road and struck a river embankment.
EMS transported the 38-year-old driver to Mercy Hospital in Joplin where he was. pronounced deceased. EMS transported a 36-year-old male passenger to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP. The Patrol no longer releases names of accident victims.
