A St. Joseph woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the wrong-way crash in May that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

St. Joseph police report 47-year-old Katherine Deweese passed two “Do not enter” signs as she drove the wrong way on the I-229 exit ramp at 3rd and Edmond, crashing into motorcyclist Ryan Coffman who was exiting the interstate in the early morning hours of May 17th.

The impact of the crash threw Coffman from his bike. Coffman, who was 33, died later at the hospital.

Deweese told police she had been distracted while arguing with a passenger. A probable cause statement reports a breath sample indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.065%, below the legal limit.
