Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins is reacting to the Missouri Supreme Court's decision blocking the state's new congressional map from being used in November's election.
Hoskins says that he disagrees with the ruling, but he's not interested in criticizing the court.
“I do believe this is a constitutional crisis. No courts have ever in the history of the United States said, hey, we're down this far," Hoskins says to KFTK in Florissant. "There's already been a primary election on the Missouri first map, but we're going to change that for the general election.”
Hoskins was asked whether he believes the case can reach the U.S. Supreme Court before Missouri voters cast ballots in November.
“I believe that we can, at the Attorney General's office on my behalf, ask for a stay to the Missouri Supreme Court, then they can either reject or accept that stay," Hoskins explains. "I would expect that they will not grant my stay, but we have to do that before we petition the U.S. Supreme Court.”
The Missouri Supreme Court ruled that the state's new congressional map cannot be used in November's election and ordered the issue placed before voters in a statewide referendum this November.
