MCPHERSON COUNTY—Crews were on the scene of a fire Thursday afternoon at McPherson Metals, 1060 Woodside Street, on the west edge of McPherson.

The fire started when a welding torch cutting a metal tank set residual oil sludge on fire, according to Fire Chief T. J. Wyssmann.

Crews let the fire burn itself out and it created heavy smoke in the area. There were no injuries, or air quality issues as a result of the fire, according to&nbsp;Wyssmann.
