(Radio Iowa) - Governor Kim Reynolds says she was intending to seek a third term as governor, but in the past couple of months she’s been weighing whether she could keep giving 100 percent to the job if she were elected to serve until early 2031.
Reynolds spoke with a handful of reporters during an event this weekend at the governor's mansion, a day after her surprise announcement that she wouldn't run for reelection in 2026. Reynolds said she's still emotional about the decision, because she loves what she's doing -- but decided it's time to step back and pass that baton to the next person.
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird spoke at an Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event on Saturday night and told the crowd she will fight for Iowa -- but Bird didn't say whether she'll seek a second term as attorney general or run for governor in 2026.
