
KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces several felony charges in connection with a fatal shooting that took place near Blue Valley Park, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.
Damien Carter, 38, faces 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to East 29th Street near Blue Valley Park on a shooting. Police located the female victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the front yard of a residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video surveillance captured a light tan/silver Chevrolet Tahoe arriving and parking in front of the residence. The driver, later identified as Carter, exits the vehicle with a handgun. The victim walks out of the residence toward him and the defendant points the handgun in the direction of the victim’s head and begins to fire. The victim falls to the ground and the suspect continues firing as she is laying on the ground. Carter gets back into his vehicle and drives away.
Carter is being held in custody with no bond.
