Deadly Labor Day weekend on Missouri roads and waterways

A deadly Labor Day weekend on Missouri roads and lakes, including one traffic death in northwest Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that statewide seven people died in traffic crashes, two in boating wrecks, with one person drowning. In all, the patrol responded to 233 crashes, resulting in 115 injuries, and seven deaths. Troopers made 108 driving while intoxicated arrests and five drug arrests.

Three boating accidents injured eight and left two dead. The patrol reports one drowning. Officers made eight boating while intoxicated arrests.

A Minnesota woman was killed when struck on I-35 north of Cameron Sunday afternoon. The patrol reports 38-year-old Luci Pineda of Farmington, Minnesota was struck while standing next to her SUV which had overturned earlier.

The fatalities over the Labor Day weekend included Osage Beach Police Officer Phylicia Carson of Lake Ozark. Carson, who was 33, was killed while in pursuit in Camden County Saturday. Carson’s patrol car went into a skid, went off the road, and struck a tree. The vehicle caught fire. Carson died at the scene.

The counting period for the Missouri State Highway Patrol began Friday evening and ran through late Monday night.
