MCDONALD COUNTY —A teen drowned on a Missouri river just after 4:30p.m. Sunday in McDonald County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 15-year-old Omaha, Nebraska boy jumped from a mud bank into the Elk River five mies north of Southwest City, Missouri. The boy intended to swim across the river. He became distressed, went under and did not resurface.
The county coroner pronounced the boy deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a safety device, according to the MSHP. The Patrol no longer releases names of drowning victims.
