Patrol IDs man who died in Missouri officer shooting

PETTIS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities  investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Pettis County have identified as  James H. Kreisel, 28, of Sedalia, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Just before 7:30p.m. Saturday, officers from the Sedalia, Missouri Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 1000 Block of State Fair Boulevard, according to a statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A.

Two officers encountered a suspect later identified as Kreisel armed with a knife. An altercation occurred between the officers and the suspect. Both officers were injured, shots were fired and the suspect was struck.

Kriesel was pronounced deceased at the scene. EMS transported both officers to a local hospital for treatment and they have been released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is in charge of the investigation.  Police have not released the name of the suspect or additional details.
