Mustangs fend off Mudcats in Chillicothe Thursday

The St. Joseph Mustangs scored two key insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning to hold off the Chillicothe Mudcats Thursday, 4-1, at Shaffer Memorial Park.

The Mustangs outhit the Mudcats 10-4 and never trailed. Jeter Mauzey was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Lafayette alum Jayden Little was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

On the mound, St. Joseph Central product Roy Holcomb got the win in five scoreless innings, striking out four and walking two. He allowed just two hits. Trenton Roehler got the save, tossing the last four innings and striking out four.

St. Joseph improves to 24-3 on the season. The Mustangs are home to face Clarinda Friday night at 7 p.m.
