(Radio Iowa) - Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States is on a tour of Midwest states, to discuss the stakes in Ukraine's battle with Russia. Ambassador Oksana Markarova says many of the people she visited with during her stop at the Iowa State Fair said they were praying for Ukraine -- and the ambassador says that's what her country needs in this moment -- more prayers and more ammunition.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February of 2022 and this past week thousands of Ukrainian troops have crossed into Russian territory. Markarova (mar-KAR-uh-vuh) says Ukraine can provide valuable military intelligence to its friends and allies here and in Europe because Ukraine's army has been battle-tested against Russia.
The ambassador met with Iowa's governor, the Des Moines city council and U-S Senator Joni Ernst Tuesday.
