
KANSAS CITY —The cause of a Kansas City area train derailment remains under investigation.
Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, the locomotive and roughly 20 cars on a Union Pacific train derailed at 87th street, near Colbern, near Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
One crew member was taken to the hospital and has been released, the other was not hurt, according to Kristen South Union Pacific Sr. Director Corporate Communications.

Some sand was spilled from the rail cars. There were no hazardous materials in box cars, according to Sheriff Daryl Forte'.
