Donald Trump's indictment on charges of mishandling classified documents at his Florida estate represents the most serious legal jeopardy so far for Trump, coming less than three months after he was charged in New York with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
On Friday morning, Missouri governor Mike Parson issued a statement on the Trump indictment, "Our justice system depends on the fair application of the law no matter the individual. When the FBI and DOJ target President Trump while blatantly ignoring President Biden and others, a terrible precedent is set."
"When certain political leaders are protected while in power and others targeted when out, we do not have a just justice system."
"We know these aggressive investigations are only taking place because President Trump dares to challenge Joe Biden’s disastrous presidency, and I am deeply concerned for the direction of our country. These political prosecutions must end."
Trump disclosed the existence of the indictment in a Truth Social post Thursday night as well as in a video he recorded. People familiar with the matter have told The Associated Press that the indictment includes seven separate charges. Trump faces the possibility of prison if convicted.
