GASCONADE COUNTY—One person died and a driver accused of DWI for an accident just after 9p.m. Sunday in Gasconade County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by 37-year-old Tyler C. Schmidt of Bland, Mo. was southbound on County Road 4th Street just north of County Road Pat. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, struck three mail boxes, a utility pole and a driveway embankment. The Jeep became airborne, struck the ground and rolled. All the occupants were ejected.
A 17-year-old boy from Bland was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Gottenstroeter Funeral Home.
An air ambulance transported a 22-year-old Belle, Mo. man to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. EMS transported a 26-year-old passenger to Mercy Hospital Washington. The driver was arrested on requested charges of Driving While Intoxicated; death of another and carless and imprudent driving. He was released for treatment at Mercy Hospital Washington.
The driver and passengers were not wearing seat belts, according to the MSHP.
