
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a violent home invasion that left a couple with serious injuries and have a suspect in custody.
Just before 7a.m. Sunday, Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the area of NW 46th Street and NW 75 Highway in an attempt to locate a stolen vehicle connected to a Topeka Police Department investigation.
Deputies located the stolen vehicle nearby. During the continued investigation, deputies learned that the suspect in the Topeka Police Department case had ties to a nearby residence.
While deputies were on scene, an individual at the residence heard an 80-year-old man inside the home yelling for help. A deputy forced entry into the residence and located the 80-year-old and a 75-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries. The victims reported that the suspect 40-year-old David B. Johnson had fled into the garage.
A deputy located Johnson hiding underneath a vehicle inside the garage. Despite repeated commands, the suspect refused to comply. A Taser was deployed, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Johnson was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on multiple charges associated with the Topeka Police Department investigation and additional requested charges of rape, Aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated burglary, Sexual battery, Aggravated battery, Aggravated assault of law enforcement, Interference with law enforcement, Kidnapping, Battery, Aggravated assault, Criminal threat and Possession of controlled substance.
