Baby found unharmed after St. Joseph carjacking

A baby taken in an armed carjacking on the North Belt Highway in St. Joseph has been recovered unharmed.

The St. Joseph Police Department reports a 31-year-old man stated three men pulled him out of his car and assaulted him. The man told police the three got into his vehicle and drove off with his seven-month-old baby inside. The carjacking took place shortly after 6:30 Sunday night at 501 North Belt.

The victim called police who quickly pursued the vehicle using GPS tracking. The suspect abandoned the vehicle at 20th and Jones Streets with the seven-month-old still in the car seat in the back.

The suspects are reported to have arrived in a late model SUV.

The investigation continues.
