Missouri man dies after train, dump truck crash

NEWTON COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 8:30a.m. Wednesday in Newton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a Peterbilt dump truck driven by a 62-year-old Joplin, Missouri, man was westbound on Lime Kiln Drive, a private road, near Hector Lane five miles north of Neosho.

The truck traveled onto the railroad track. A Kansas City Southern trains struck the vehicle. Newton County ambulance transported the truck driver to Freeman West where he was pronounced deceased.  The crossing is marked with a stop sign and railroad crossing sign, according to the MSHP.
