WASHINGTON— On Friday, Senator Eric Schmitt honored six Missourians as Champions of Missouri for heroic actions, selfless acts, and embodying Missouri values:
“Champions of Missouri embrace true Missouri values, and represent the best in our society. Whether through acts of kindness, displays of perseverance and prowess, or heroic actions, these champions of Missouri have helped to save lives and make the world a better place. I, along with the rest of the state of Missouri, thank them for their service, sacrifice, and selflessness,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.
BACKGROUND:
- The Champions of Missouri include:Tom Henke for his work as a World Series champion in supporting the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City. Inspired by his daughter, Tom has successfully raised over $1 million in charity for those with disabilities.Trey and Casey Filter and Paul Contreras, who, in an act of heroism, successfully stopped the armed suspect at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade.Brett Forbes, for his perseverance and athletic prowess. Being confined to a wheelchair never kept Brett from achieving his dreams and competing for Team USA at the World Para Powerlifting Open in St. Louis – and even breaking the American rookie record.Joseph Sapp, who courageously stepped in to assist a police officer in subduing and arresting a violent suspect on the verge of escaping police custody in the parking lot of a Branson apartment complex. Joseph has since joined the U.S. Army.
