DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating after a standoff at a home in Lawrence.
Just before 8:30p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to a home near 6th Street between Shwartz Road and Lawrence Avenue with information that a woman had a gun and was threatening to harm herself, according to a social media report from Lawrence Police.
Initially, officers weren’t sure if others were in the home and negotiations began. The woman fired several shots during the standoff and communication with her was sporadic.
Officers evacuated some neighboring homes. She ultimately emerged with continued threats and officers deployed a less lethal round in an attempt to stop the woman. She was hit, but not seriously injured.
A short time later, negotiators were able to convince the woman to come out, where she was safely taken into custody and medics with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical took over. Officers were on scene for some time processing and collecting evidence. After officers secured the area neighbors were allowe to return home. Police released no additional details.
