SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal shooting have identified the victim as 30-year-old Kurel Hayes of Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.
Just after 10:3o p.m. Wednesday, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 500 block of N. Gordon in Wichita, according to Gupilan.
First responders located Kurel who had a single gunshot wound to his upper torso area. Fire and EMS began rendering medical aid and he was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
This was not a random incident, and it is believed that the suspect of this violent crime is known to Kurel. Investigators were actively working on the case Thursday afternoon and following up on leads and gathering additional facts. Police released no additional details.
