
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Law enforcement authorities investigating a weekend homicide in Kansas City have identified the woman who died as 47-year-old Alexis Rayford, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.
Just before 10:30p.m. Sunday, police officers were dispatched report of a shooting in the 2500 block of Jackson Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
When officers arrived, they located Alexis Rayford suffering from apparent gunshot trauma in a grassy area outside of a residence. Officers immediately began to render medical aid until EMS personnel responded and transported her to an area hospital. Officers were notified by hospital staff she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
There is not currently any preliminary information indicating what transpired prior to the shooting. We do not currently have anyone in police custody.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene to begin collecting evidence and gathering witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
