
KANSAS CITY —One person died from injuries in a fire at home in Kansas City.
Just after 3p.m. Monday, crews responded to a reported house fire in the 5400 block of North Cypress, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
Crews reported light smoke on arrival with civilians performing CPR in the front yard on a woman approximately in her 60s. Crews took over CPR and initiated an interior attack on the fire.
The fire was extinguished quickly. It was a mattress in the living room. Crews continued to perform CPR on the patient as well as provide EMS for smoke inhalation on two additional patients.
The CPR patient was transported to a local hospital where she later died, according to Hopkins. A second patient was transported for further evaluation for smoke inhalation and a third treated on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Hopkins. Authorities have not released the name of the woman who died.
