NEOSHO COUNTY —Three people died in a house fire Monday in Neosho County.

Just after 1:30a.m., fire crews were called to what was initially reported as a grass fire in the area of 80th Road and US highway 59, according to a media release from the Galesburg Fire Department

Crews learned the call was a structure fire. With that new information, crews requested mutual-aid from St Saint Paul Mission Township Fire Department , and the Erie Fire Department/Auxiliary. Engine 4 was on the scene approximately 12 minutes after the initial page.

First arriving personnel found a home that was on the ground.

During the fire suppression operations, fire crews were made aware of the possibility of a family of three in the residence. Because of the extent of the fire, crews attempted an exterior search for the residents. Unfortunately, all three residents of the structure died in the fire.

The Kansas Fire Marshal office is in charge of the investigation.
