LAFAYETTE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 3:30p.m. Thursday in Lafayette County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Michael P. Kniest, 45, Columbia, was westbound on Interstate 70 just east of Bates City.
The driver changed lanes and struck the towed unit of a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Lira B. Ruben, 55, Bakersfield, California. After impact Kniest was ejected.
SNI Valley EMS transported Kniest to Centerpoint Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Ruben was not injured. Kniest was not wearing a helmet, according to the MSHP.
