KANSAS CITY—One person died from injuries in an accident that occurred just before 4a.m. Sunday in Kansas City.

A white Infiniti G50 was disabled on the right shoulder of Interstate 70 near Prospect  with its hazard lights activated, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino. The driver exited the vehicle and was standing near the rear of the Infiniti. A westbound silver Ford Five Hundred failed to remain in lane three. The vehicle entered the emergency shoulder, and struck the disabled vehicle. As a result of the collision, the driver of the Infiniti was pinned between the two vehicles and sustained traumatic injuries.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Ford Five Hundred was also transported to an area hospital for evaluation. On Sunday evening, investigators were notified that the pedestrian with critical injuries was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.  Police did not have an update on the Ford driver. Impairment is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

This is fatality #38 for 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri, according to DiMartino.
