BARRY COUNTY —Two people died in an accident during a chase by law enforcement just after 10p.m. Friday in Barry County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a Lawrence County Missouri Sheriff's Deputy was in pursuit of 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by 19-year-old Rafae Conteras Maldonado of Monett northbound on MO 37 at U.S. 60.
Maldonado failed to stop at the red light and struck a westbound 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by Larry A. Brock, 53, Crane.
Brock and a passenger in the Hyundai Lydia E. Shorey, 61, Crane, were pronounced dead at the scene and were transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
Maldonado was not injured and arrested and is being held on requested charges of Felony DWI involving the deaths, possession of a controlled substance, Cocaine, resisting arrest, careless and imprudent driving, no valid license plates, no insurance, texting while driving and for no seat belt, according to the MSHP.
