SHAWNEE COUNTY—A juvenile died and six others were injured in a fire on Labor Day in Topeka.
Just after 4a.m. Monday, crews responded to a mobile home fire located at 137 NE Coachlight Drive, according to a media release from the Topeka Fire Department.,
First responders found smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack, and they were able to keep the fire confined to the residence.
One juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene. One juvenile and one adult were transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. One adult was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two Topeka Police Officers, one Topeka Firefighter and one civilian bystander were treated for non-life-threatening injuries they received during emergency efforts.
The Kansas Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family. Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be an accidental electrical fire. The home did not have sorking smoke detectors. The fire remains under investigation.
