Road trips may be especially popular this summer, according to Steven Foutes of the Missouri Division of Tourism.

"Of course, this is the 100th year, the centennial year for Route 66, a great, great way to spend a couple of days traveling across Missouri, seeing the sights, the quirky roadside attractions," Foutes says

Foutes says already this year with the centennial celebration, Route 66 has been a popular travel destination.

"But I think we've seen that destinations across Route 66 from St. Louis down to Joplin and points in between have really been welcoming people from around the country and around the world," Foutes explains

Tourism has a $20 billion-dollar impact on the state’s economy each year.
