U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials have announced water flows from Gavins Point Dam into the lower Missouri River will be reduced later this month.

The Corps of Engineers is preparing flows from Gavins Point into the Missouri for the winter months. Currently the Corps is releasing 32,000 cubic feet of water per second. On the 22nd, the Corps plans to gradually reduce water flows by 3,000 cfs until reaching 15,000 cfs. Eventually water releases will be reduced to 12,000, which is the winter rate.

The plan is to keep water flows from Gavins Point at approximately 500 cubic feet per second less than full service through the end of the navigation season, then settle to a level high enough to support utility service and drinking water needs downstream on the Missouri River and prevent ice dams on the river.
