(Radio Iowa) - Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed today that he will sit out the season-opening game on August 31st as a self-imposed penalty for a recruiting violation.
Ferentz says he cannot go into further detail as the investigation is ongoing. He says he made a mistake during the recruiting process and apologized to the players, coaching staff, administration, and fans.
Hawkeye wide receivers coach Jon Budmayr will also be suspended for Iowa's season opener against Illinois State on August 31st.
