JACKSON COUNTY, Kansas —Authorities are working to determine the cause of a Sunday morning fire in rural Jackson County.
Just after 3:30a.m. Sunday morning, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a in a building that housed fireworks at 192nd and U.S. Highway 75, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.
Fire departments countywide responded to the blaze. The metal structure has housed fireworks and had been used as a fireworks provider over the years.
The report of fireworks discharging could be heard for miles, according to Morse. Firefighters stayed on scene until daylight. No injuries were reported during the incident and the facility was not occupied at the time of the fire, according to Morse.
Prairie Band Pottawatomie Nation, Hoyt, Mayetta, Delia, Holton, Whiting and Netawaka Fire Departments and Jackson County EMS responded to the scene.
