ALLEN COUNTY —Law enforcement and Kansas wildlife officials are investigating an accident involving a bear on a Kansas highway.
Just after 4:15 a.m. Friday, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle accident on West Virginia Road, east of Old U.S. Highway 169, five miles north of Iola, according to the sheriff's office.
The driver of the vehicle, Justin Mines, reported that he had struck a bear. The animal, severely injured, was found a short distance away and, with the assistance of a Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks Game Warden, was euthanized. Mines reported wearing his seat belt and not injured.
