DOUGLAS COUNTY—One. person was seriously injured in a fire at a Kansas home.
Just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were dispatched to a medical call in the 100 block of North Second Street in Baldwin City, according to a media release from police. First determined that an 82-year-old woman sustained severe burns as the result of a kitchen accident.
Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and determined that air transport was necessary. A LifeStar air ambulance landed at the practice field west of Baldwin Junior High School to transport the woman to a burn unit in the Kansas City area.
As a precaution during the landing and departure, Baldwin Junior High School and Baldwin High School were placed on a soft lockdown, and 6th Street was temporarily closed to traffic. Once LifeStar departed, 6th Street was reopened and both schools resumed normal operations.
