JACKSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new  charges after a traffic stop.

Just after 9:30a.m. Monday, a sheriff’s deputy observed a blue Chrysler Sebring traveling southbound on Arizona Street in Holton.

The deputy stopped the vehicle after confirming the driver did not have a valid driver’s license.

Following a search, the deputy arrested the passenger, Christopher Speckhals, 31, of Hiawatha,  for being in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The driver was released at the scene.

Speckhals has previous conviction for arson and drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
