A winter weather advisory is in effect for the greater St. Joseph area until six o’clock Monday evening.
The National Weather Service issued the advisory after snow began falling Sunday morning and grew heavier as the day wore on.
The city of St. Joseph declared Phase II of the Emergency Snow Ordinance today. Vehicles are required to be removed from Emergency Routes by six o’clock this evening. Holiday Park also will not be open tonight.
St. Joseph school officials cancelled classes for today. Missouri Western State University will be closed until noon today.
The National Weather Service expects snow to continue into tonight and tomorrow with accumulations in St. Joseph, northwest Missouri, north central Missouri, and northeast Kansas of 2 to 4 inches. NWS cautions motorists to plan on slippery road conditions and says hazardous road continues are likely through Monday.
