Mo. motorcyclist dead after crash with Kan. deputy responding to another crash

GREENWOOD COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 1:30p.m. Thursday in Greenwood County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a marked law enforcement 2020 Ford Explorer driven by Greenwood County Deputy James S. Cude, 52, Fall River, was responding to an injury crash with lights and sirens, northbound on CC50 Road just north of Fall River.

The Deputy attempted a left turn onto westbound U.S. 400. An eastbound 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Karl R. Sturm, 58, Republic, Missouri and the Ford Explorer collided in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 400.

Sturm was pronounced dead at the scene. Cude was not transported for treatment of a minor injury. Sturm was not wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.
