SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Florida truck driver has been arrested in the February shooting death of a man in downtown Springfield, police there said.

Thomas Haynes, 45, was arrested Thursday in Springfield on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the killing of 32-year-old Robert Moffett, police said in a news release.

Moffett was fatally shot on Feb. 6, shortly after midnight, near a city intersection, police have said. Court records say Moffett had been arguing with another man moments before the shooting, and surveillance video and witness testimony led police to Haynes.

Haynes has denied any involvement and told investigators he was not in Springfield at the time of the shooting, police said.

Haynes was being held Thursday in the Greene County Jail without bond and does not yet have an attorney listed as representing him in the case.
